Woah, woah, woah! Goodness gracious, I went there too! Granted, I didn't like it when I was there (parents forced me to go) but I'm so glad I did. Having Reed on my resume was my ticket to everywhere and everything since I graduated.

Wow, lots of people who are too fucking dumb to make their text legible in this batch.

136. Midgets = retards now?
And it's spelled "ancient." Retard.

Call me crazy, but I think I'd like to hit Dean Bracken. He may be an older man, but this is one fandom I'd hate to interrupt any of the pairings in.

131. Haven't read past Eragon, and haven't read the other series, but I still completely agree, on the grounds that the Inheritance trilogy has stolen the acclaim and publicity of every other series with dragons ever. With the possible exception of the Pern books.

I'll have to look into that other series you're suggesting, though. It's been a while since I've found a good new fantasy series.

147. ...you know, I can totally get behind this. Maybe because all of the mind-screwy stuff is so mind-screwy that I end up putting it on the back burner. A berserk Eva... now, that's a little harder to ignore.

154. I don't really get how Maya's existence is supposed to mess with Mylar, anyway. Doesn't make sense to me - I mean, unless you're writing horribly OOC fluffy AU domestic Mylar, guest starring an OOC Maya as the awful homewrecking bitch. But if you're making half an attempt to stay close to canon, how does she even get in the way?

I imagine the Eragon franchise has stolen the title of Gateway Drug from the Pern books, at least for a portion of today's youth. Me, I just want to kick Paolini every time he shows up at a con. He gives the impression that he's fully aware he's a Big Deal and isn't mature enough to know how to hide it.

103. Seirei no Moribito is a great anime, but I saw it subtitled, so I dunno if her name sound like that ^^u

107. agreed! <3

Yes! Another John Adams fangirl (or boy!)

P.S Seriously, watch the miniseries. You'll learn a lot and you can stare at Stephen Dillane and David Morse (George Washington) if you don't think Giamatti is hot.

Haha, I'm totally opposite to that, since I think Allen's a bit of a Gary Stu. Idk recently I've liked her more and more and Allen less which is weird since I really liked Allen and used to hate her in the beginning. ;-;

Re: 153

(Anonymous) 2008-09-07 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Can I get an amen? I mean, Allen is my favorite character, but his savior complex and willingness to actually help his enemies is far more annoying and unbelievable to me than anything Lenalee's ever done. Her issues are actually reasonable compared with his. I wouldn't call him a Gary Stu, but sometimes I do want to bang his head against a large rock and scream 'LEARN, LEEEEARN' at him.

And yet fandom can't get enough of Allen. But in the same breath, they rag constantly on Lenalee for her flaws or LACK of flaws. Both traits that could just as easily be applied to the perpetual favorite, Mr. Walker.

That's just ridiculous. I adore Guy with every fiber of my being, but I don't make excuses for him. He's nuts, and I wouldn't have him any other way. He wants to be good, but fails miserably. That's why I adore him. If he ever succeeded at being good, he'd be as boring as that douche Robin Hood.

My interest in Guy/Marian was purely for the sexual tension. I loved that Guy elicited this very adult feeling of desire in her, which was dangerous, because she didn't exactly know what it was or why she was having those feelings for someone who was so morally repulsive to her. Whereas with Robin, it was safe, and what she had with him was a child's view of love, it was what she had known her whole life. She didn't have the animal lust feelings with Robin that she had with Guy. Marian definitely didn't love Guy, she definitely didn't want to marry him, she definitely didn't approve of his ways, but she wanted him for reasons that she couldn't fathom. Guy was a man to her, Robin just a boy. Guy was mysterious, Robin was predictable. Guy represented a certain danger, and Marian had always been fascinated by danger, walking a fine line between doing what she wanted and doing what was safe. For Guy, Marian represented purity, and in his own twisted mind, he was in love with her, and he tried to be romantic with her in the way that Robin would, but again, he fails so miserably at being that kind of guy, so he goes back to what he knows, which is force and fear. Yeah, Marian manipulated him like crazy, but his insecurity and his impatience causes his inability to stay on the virtuous path, and that is fully his fault. The ship was always doomed and twisted, but that was the draw. It was the beautifully complex alternative to the boring mediocrity of Robin/Marian. But I would never, ever call Marian/Guy a love match. Ever. And I ship them (until the finale). Of course, I'm pretty sure that I'm convinced that Robin is his real passion.

This comment made my jaw drop. Thank you for explaining the character dynamics so clearly and succinctly. I'm going to save this comment for future reference because this is exactly what fascinated me about certain aspects of the show but had trouble putting into words.

You can be too old to like things. Like adults who still like wearing diapers, dressing like infants, etc. If you're 80-years-old and still watching tween shows like Gossip Girl and Hannah Montana then you have some problems.

Also, just because someone works on the show does not mean he or she actually likes that show. And the people working on the show are not always the target demographic they are trying to reach.

115

[identity profile] loquaint.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I agree; the show didn't "sell" or convince me of Aaeru/Neviril, but then I shipped Wapourif/Morinas - until the episode that gave them more air time. ._.

Having said that, Rodoreamon/Mamiina and Dominura/Limone ftw!

106. I love 1776, too, but the miniseries is great, though! The Thomas Jefferson is particularly wonderful.

151. ::laughs:: I've never really thought about slashing them, but I'd totally read a fic if someone wrote it. ;)

152. Now you've got me insanely curious.

104. Kingdom Hearts exists FOR Mary Sues. If you hate Mary Sues, you should probably find a different series.

124. That doesn't even begin to make sense.

131. I AGREE SO HARD MAN, SO HARD. You can take your dragon riders and go back to Losersville, I'll keep my AWESOME HISTORICAL FICTION + DRAGONS.

157. ...So what? She writes shitty fanfic - but look at her actual work now. Everyone started out as a shitty writer, after all XD

141. Serena > Blair. I've only watched... about four episodes of the show and read one and a half of the books and supposedly this is an Unpopular Fandom Opinion.

But I still love everyone on the show, though. They're all so pretty :D
