Ok, not a rape victim but was a victim of incestuous molestation as a child and yes, I have written/liked non-con (even, God help me, pedo/shota) fics. I have no idea why I do this.

I completely understand what you feel about the whole non-con thing. It's a valid reaction, and is not unreasonable at all. I feel bad you have to feel guilty about disliking non-con fics, because hell, I feel guilty liking/writing them. Sometimes I think there's is something wrong with me.

Jesus, which part of fandom have you stumbled into? (I hope you haven't stumbled on the Brienne and Catelyn hate yet). As far as I'm concerned, your views are perfectly valid. I'm not fond of Sansa also, and while I ship RxL=J, I wouldn't be surprised or mad if it turned out that was not the case at all.

I think asking for a bit of empathy from your friends about your situation is not all that unreasonable (I hope you are really sincere in not wishing them to be raped, because the way you worded things out seems to me as if a little part of you still do, but I guess the situation you're in is very frustrating). As friends, you should consider each other's feelings, and I hope you guys resolve this and find some way to deal and compromise otherwise if you still hold to your opinions and they're still holding fast to them you're setting yourself in a world of hurt.

Although I still find it uncomfortable liking/reading/writing non-con, I don't think people who write it are disgusting. Some people write it as a fantasy, as kink, as an outlet, or as a way to cope with their own rape/molestation, and while their views may be different from mine, that doesn't mean they're wrong or bad.

I don't think you should feel guilty for liking it. Especially since you seem to get that not everyone who's been assaulted or molested would feel the same as you.

I also completely get that some people might read or write rapefic as an outlet. I've written it as an outlet. But what I wrote is fic dealing with rape and its aftermath. The fics I have a problem with are the ones that are written by people who have never been assaulted and write rape as romantic, with the victim being forced into and then enjoying it.

I think the reason for all this wank is because people are already conditioned to be uncomfortable about their fantasies, especially when those fantasies differ from the perceived "norm". @-@ And this feels like a challenge, which has the expected response of putting everyone up in arms. It would happen with any "abnormal" kink if someone expressed discomfort with it. The difference here is that rape fantasy is so prevalent that there's more people to get upset over it. (Funny how something that's perfectly normal gets perceived as a "perversion" because of Western [in this case mostly American I think] issues about sex.)

It makes me wonder about that 31-57% figure posted above; how many women said "no, never!" because they were embarrassed about it?

Anyways! I feel for what you've gone through, but there's a reason why rape fantasy is rape fantasy. It's an absolutely normal part of sexuality, and honestly has nothing to do with reality. Someone can correct me on this, but rape fantasy is largely about blame. "If X made me do it, then it's not my fault." That applies to just about every forced-sex situation (Veela-Draco, hello!), and non-con just expresses that. Your friends are incredibly insensitive (are you sure they're friends?) for bringing it up in front of you, and you should probably ditch them, I would.

I had a what was practically a dissertation on this, but I think the two paragraphs sum it up neatly enough.

Very thoughtful words on 104. I haven't considered the whole 'blame' angle on rape fantasies. I rather thought rape fantasies were more about control and domination, as it is often with actual rape; however, in a rape fantasy, the one at the receiving end of the 'rape' is the one in control as for that rape fantasy to happen, her consent to be 'raped' must be given, unlike in an actual rape. Some people find it rather exhilarating to give up control to someone and let them have their way with them and yet still truly be in control.
