104) It's hard because it hits too close to home for you to treat it as strictly entertainment. For me it's children. Having had two of my own, I can no longer bear to read about bad things happening to children. Even if it's off camera, it just makes me sick to my stomach to think of a small child being terrorized, hurt or killed. I cross my fingers during movies and TV shows where small children show up and grit my teeth hoping that nothing will happen to them. A movie like Cujo is now completely unbearable. The good thing about Non-con is that most people have the good graces to label theirs as such, so you can easily avoid it. Just remind yourself that a large part of fantasy's appeal comes with the ability to safely enjoy things that have serious real life consequences -- Don't do this at home!

107) There is something heady about being the center of someone's attention, such that you can't fail with them. It's amazingly affirming. Of course the reality of it isn't nearly as awesome as the fantasy of it, but who the hell reads stories for reality.

Agreed. As someone who writes realistic portrayals of rape and the aftermath, I find it kind of squicky to see all the fics that glorify it into this loving thing. It's not. It's not even about sex the majority of the time. (This is one of the reasons I really don't read a lot of doujinshi- the whole 'I rape you because I love you/ no means yes' dynamic makes me want to puke.)

Rabid Ichigo/Rukia fangirls (hell, rabid Rukia fangirls) are worse than the worst yaoi fangirls I've ever seen. They're the typical loud, militant, intolerant bunch that give a bad name to all Ichigo/Rukia fans by going around bashing other characters for "interfering" with their 'ship (hell, I've seen them bash Ishida for not seducing Orihime or something), they bash rival 'ships, flame people for disliking the pairing (or Rukia), turning Rukia into some sort of sickeningly idealized Sue, and so on.

I forget his name but he worked on GaoGaiGar as well as Godannar I believe, which are both shows that have similiar looking female uh, "anatomies". If it was up to CLAMP they'd have no breasts whatsoever, which I think is worse, actually. I hate it when women look like little fucking girls in anime. It's idiotic considering that, for Western women at least (not sure about in Asia) the average cup size is C.

Yeah, I've been watching Katekyo Hitman Reborn a lot these past few days, and incredibly enough all female characters have been reduced to plot robots. They seem to live in the kitchen and are never told anything. I mean, if I were transported ten years into the future and shot at by a crazy flying reaper man, I'd at least ask some questions!

Er, I suppose I became a bit annoyed by the overwhelming sexism. Otherwise I think KHR is rather good, and has quite a few interesting and original ideas, so the dismal portrayal of female characters is a big disappointment.
