I would never, EVER wish the trauma of being raped on anyone and really mean it.

But everytime I hear a woman saying [men don't get raped, right?] she likes to read and/or write non-con* that small part of me that hasn't recovered from my own assault thinks that experiencing it first hand might teach her some fucking sensitivity.

Because fiction = reality. Also, you need a "hey, I got raped" certificate to enjoy it as a fantasy. Wishing rape on someone, when you're so butthurt yourself? Great move.

I always feel guilty for thinking that way, but then again, does she ever feel guilty for glorifying a horrific, life-altering all too real crime?

Because, you know, survivors never write fic as therapy? Completely unheard of.

Writing a realistic portrayal of rape and its aftermath is one thing.
Writing a fic where rape is portrayed as sex is disgusting.

Rape =!= sex. Not at all. Also, let me introduce you to two of my friends: Mister back-button and sir scroll-bar.

Secret because several of my friends in my main fandom ship a pairing that can basically only be written as completely OOC or as rape, and apparently I'm not allowed to express my opinion about it without them getting all butthurt.

Just brainstorming to help you: new friends, avoid rape fic if you know it bugs you? don't read comments to rape fics that bug you? rethink phrasing of opinion?
stop trying to change what people write, just because it bothers you?

Actually, a lot of women who write/read rape-fantasy fic have in fact been raped, and are REALLY CLEAR on the difference between a fantasy in which someone you find attractive does things you secretly want but don't wish to admit you want to you despite your stated objections...and actual rape, which is of course horrible and traumatic.

Not everyone reacts to trauma the same way. I personally can't read those realistic stories about rape and won't read certain pairings or fandoms without warnings unless I can ask someone who has already read it if there's a realistic rape in it. Sometimes I can't watch parts of SVU and that scene in BSG freaked me way the shit out.

But bodice rippers bother me not at all because they're totally unreal. It's a fantasy about not having to admit that you want to have rough, earth-shaking sex with a hot stranger and not have to talk about birth control or STDs or what your history is. And since being assaulted, I kind of want that more than ever, because it's a big pain in the ass to have to talk about all the things that still bug me sometimes, many years later.
