123. While I kind of agree that people shouldn't like popular animes just because they are popular, people shouldn't like obscure animes just because they're obscure. Yes, the fans that who declare "Naruto is the best anime evar omg" when it is in fact, one of few they've seen, are annoying, but people have to start somewhere. Most fans get interested through Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Naruto, Bleach...and then they move on to better stuff, and it doesn't mean they have to dislike popular series at all. And in my case, I found Naruto, Death Note, and Code Geass before they became inflated with fans, and I do like my share of both mainstream and lesser-knowns (besides, it's easy to find pretty icons when a series is mainstream...okay, yeah, I'm shallow). Instead of not associating with them, why not just give them recs to obscure animes that you do find to be superior? It would be a kinder solution than just dismissing them entirely.

112. Haruhi/Tamaki is love. I didn't expect anything when I started watching, but if Haruhi had turned out to be a girly girl instead of the gender blind, anti-mary sue that she is, I'm sure I would have found the reveal to be annoying. But I'm glad you could move beyond it and just like couples for what they are, which I think is like the second evolutionary stage of the yaoi fangirl.

123. Consider this: not everyone is into anime on the same level. Some people have only a passing interest, and thus are less likely to expend the effort to search for series that will only be watched to pass the time anyway. Popular = more accessible. These same people also tend to find those who obsessively feel the need to impose their definition of "good" on others kind of weird and creepy.

123. I would probably agree with you were I in your place, but considering I have only seen really popular animes, I will defend myself. Firstly there's probably a reason that they're really popular... maybe because they're really good? There's nothing wrong with liking something that's awesome. Plus, if you're like me and not familiar with a ton of obscure animes, the only ones I hear about are the popular ones. So I wouldn't even know where to start watching my own obscure show. Plus elitist people, like you, are annoying and I want to piss them off as much as possible.

They're popular because a focus group decided that they would be more likely to sell merchandise and/or products to an adolescent American audience, therefore they were shown on American tv. It's not like American companies choose the best anime to market to Americans, just what they think will sell better.

As a fan of yaoi I must say that you just suck.
I love Zelda, I have no problems accepting that Sheik = Zelda, yet that doesn't keep me from liking fics where Sheik is male and his own person. Guess what, that doesn't make me hate Link/Zelda or denying canon.
Liking AU and yaoi doesn't make me a rabid female-bashing idiot. And please point me to the place where people are freaking out that Sheik = Zelda. Because I for one have never encountered such people, especially not in the Link/male!Sheik community.

Ok, fine. Perhaps I shouldn't have worded it like that, the generalization was unfair. I'll concede that not all AU!Sheik folks are misogynistic Zelda-haters. Brava for you and your fandom friends for actually being reasonable. You *are* denying canon by believing Sheik is a separate person, but so what? Alternate universes are *fun.*

I have het ships, slash ships (m/m & f/f) and enjoy a bit of gender bending in my fandoms. (I blame Ranma for this). I would *love* to see fic where after 7 years of being Sheik, Zelda decides she enjoys being a boy. Or decides she likes *both* of her forms equally.

What I have a problem with is stuff like this (http://allionnara.livejournal.com/17884.html#cutid1), and this (http://www.fanart-central.net/pic_full-238125.html). That second person hasn't even ever *played* the games.

From the first link:
