Another American piping in with I say "Oi" quite a bit - but the rest of that you have right. My defense, though, is that I'm a teacher and oi sounds a lot better in a classroom than "Oh, fuck!"

(Anonymous) 2008-09-23 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You're using the Yiddish "oy", then, as in, "Oy! What a headache these kids give me!" There's sighing involved, no?

In the UK, "oi" is used like the American "hey", as in, "Oi! Come back here, you berk!"

148. lol @ the fact that this secret is so tl;dr itself.
153. You should write that. I'd happily accept is as alternative canon XD

148 OP

Looking back, I wonder if I should've made it really really insanely tiny unreadable text, not to mention much longer.

So? You write for yourself first. Yeah, it's cool if others read and like it. But I write it for me first.

I did get more comments with my first stories. Less now. But I still write it. I know people are reading. They just don't want to leave comments that say "I liked it!". They should, but most of the time they want to say more. I know when I read something I like, I don't always leave a comment. I should. I see a lot I like that might get no comment from me.

So it's nice if my stories get comments. But I've learned from a couple of sites that count the numbers of reads of a story rather than just comments, that a lot, and I mean a LOT, of people read without commenting. So you might get getting a lot of readers, more than you know.

So write what is inside you, for you, and put it out there to share. You might have a lot of people wating for more of your stories.

101. Gankutsuou is just awesome, pure awesome. Maybe there are people still fangirling it to this day (like it deserves to be). God, I need to rewatch it again.

109. It was heartrending because House actually showed vulnerability. It made me understand why people ship them. Can't wait for tonight~!

113. Annnnnnnnnnnd once again someone abuses the term "Mary Sue". Seriously, every time someone falsely accuses a character as a Mary Sue, God kills a pretty boy. While I really can't see CC and Lelouch as a serious romantic pairing (let's be honest, the kisses they shared and those heart-to-hearts felt more partners-in-crime and friends than anything) and I do agree that out of the girl Lulu could've pair up, Shirls was the best choice (and I don't even ship them) but she's dead. Honestly, I prefer a ending that Lulu ends up alone. And Lulu would never kill CC, especially he seemed to forgive her after the whole Jupiter Ragnarok thing. But, take a chill pill, honestly, the Warlock/Witch End is pretty much confirmed although I doubt it would be a happy end though.

116. ? I wouldn't call WB a fourth rate network, not by a LONG shot. Second rate, yeah. Fourth rate, no.

144. OP, I have many OTPs, and I don't regret nothing!

154. Star Ocean 2's was better. Any Grandia battle system was better. And Legend of Legaia > All. Seriously. SO3 was a disappointment all around if you played SO2 before hand. That's why I hope the remake for the PSP comes over here and start another boom and HOPE TO GAWD SO4 is closer to SO2 overall.

143: ...I can't say I'm a fan. Especially since he's with Kaho, and Sakura/Syaoran is my OTP. I still wouldn't say it's gross, though...Well, okay, maybe a little bit, but that's only my perspective. but to each their own.

163: Haha, yeah, I've told my friends that I've seen it just so they stop annoying me about it. Maybe I'll rent it when it comes out on DVD, but I really don't care much about it one way or another.

164

101) [livejournal.com profile] gankutsuou? Or if you want fantardation, go revive [livejournal.com profile] downskutsuou :D Fandom isn't dead, just needs some tender lovin' CPR.

144) For me, an OTP is the one pairing for both characters/people involved that I cannot enjoy any romantic relationship between either of them and anyone else. It is me liking, loving A/B and not enjoying reading or watching anything involving A/C or B/D. I don't have many OTPs, and I have many ships across many fandoms, but there are a few pairings where I can't stand thinking of either of them being with anyone else. *shrugs* that's what OTP is to me, not ONLY liking one pairing in one series.

131

[identity profile] natashalarnold.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)

113. All I got from this was, 'BAAAAWWWW! I'M AN IDIOT FANGIRL!' If you want someone to hear your case refraining from labeling the entire female cast 'Mary Sues' would be a nice start.

Okay. He's a bit of a dick. But, for some reason, it makes him all the more endearing.

116: I suppose they might be happier with a bit more fame, but in that case it would be the tabloids stating their opinions as truth. Maybe they think a few of the more unofficial-sounding fan crazies are preferable?

122: No, it's absolutely true. Of course, it's even more like stereotypical shoujo manga, since that's where the more clichéd yaoi takes its inspiration.

126: I don't think you'll ever find someone with the same taste in everything. That's why there are so many specified comms in fandom.

I mean, it's easy to find other people who also like a certain type of manga (and even then people tend to have favourites within the genre), but I'd never expect their tastes to match mine in every other genre (or fandom expression).

128: It's not possible to enjoy both?

135: Hehe, not from what I've seen! *has recently been on a search for good Harry Potter fic*

144: Well, it really just means that you don't pair up two particular characters with anybody but each other. You can still like other pairings! Especially for different canons.

Also, most people use it jokingly nowadays, and usually only means it's a favourite pairing.

151: I'm thirty, and I thought it was a deeply frightening film.

156: It wasn't you who did it, and you've realised it was a horrible thing, so I wouldn't worry.

That said, the bureaucracy and social structure aren't perfect and might make living there a bit difficult (I have a friend there with a sick father, who constantly complains about the pension and hospital systems). Though now that I think about it, I've heard that things in the U.S. might be worse.

N!S1: The subtext is worth less because it was purposefully included? Okay...

Re: 128 op

Well, it is. But I meant that I miss loving fandom as much as I did, and it just doesn't entertain me anymore. I think it's one of those "growing out of it and resisting it" things.

140 - SAME HERE

126 - If you're looking for your exact twin, you might have a long search, but... I'm 22; female; unconditionally straight; not into yaoi/yuri/shounen-ai/whatever; sick of shoujo and shounen (got any suggestions, then?); on the pretty side of average looking; wanting to get into cosplay (but lacking the funds); allergic to drama; been into fandom for about... what, 4 years now? ::shrug:: Sometimes teh intarnets can make you feel like you're the only sane human being out there. Don't worry. You're not.

159 - See, the cool thing about Zuko is that he's a whiny emo kid who gets over it. He's got legitimate issues, but eventually he works through them (enough), does (enough of) what he needs to do, and (mostly) moves on. If you think he's courageous, that's great. He is. Make him a role model. Get over it too. It's not healthy to live with the emo forever. You eventually turn into a pasty waif who can't decide on a gender and listens to way too much Dashboard Confessional. And anyway, you shouldn't worry about all of us who call him emo/pussy/whatever. I doubt any of us have ever been through half of what he has.

159

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Goddamn, man, Zuko being upset and angry over his disgustingly abusive father does not make him an emo kid. If you think his issues are legitimate, why are you suggesting that he's whiny and emo at all? Christ. The fallout from an abusive parent does NOT consist of becoming an androgynous waif and listening to popular music. What the fuck is wrong with you people?

I think you mean English. Everyone knows Americans who use 'bloody' are irritating, and want to be English.

Re: 135

(Anonymous) 2008-09-23 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I mean when an American character starts saying 'bloody' because the fanfic author is British or Australian.

[identity profile] berserk-dragon.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
101: A Gankutsuou secret!! :]
Seriously, one of the best anime I have seen. You're not alone. I just think the fandom is quiet. lol

[identity profile] tod-hollykim.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm American and I do say "bloody" a lot. But then I picked it up when I was much younger and read a lot of Brit books. Mostly because using it I could swear and people around me wouldn't get how bad I was swearing.

And "oi", well, if you spell it as "oy!" yeah, we do use it here. Specially in New York. ;-D

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
144. I use the term all the time, but yeah. I wonder the same thing.
155. Hmm, I should try that. My roommate drives me batty.
