you must be new. the het fans are nothing compared to the sheer hatred some slash factions have towards each other in this fandom. have you not seen the epically tl;dr essays about how gumshoe doesn't deserve edgeworth, or how any character doesn't deserve phoenix or edgeworth except each other and how they're ~*soulmates forever*~ and ~*meant to be*~ and shipping them with anyone else demeans their ~*special and unique relationship*~ that can never be equalled by a relationship with a woman?

also there is no canon gay in phoenix wright. there never has been and there never will be.

Erm, I've been a fan since 2005. I've seen all sides of the fandom from then on and the het fans have been a lot more crazier than I've seen the slash fans be. While I personally do not really think P/E "deserve each other" because I prefer Phoenix with Iris, I can see why people would think it to be perfect and "canon" in suggestion, PhoenixEdgeworth that is, even if I think it would take a little more work.

To get to the point: The het fans are definitely worse from what I've seen and experienced. And this is why this is a secret, because as a het fan myself, it is so sad to know.

I'll be honest with you, most of my disappointment with the whole Rachel Dawes dies to spur Harvey Dent's character development thing was that it was very untrue to the rest of the canon (because Harvey Dent is perfectly capable of going insane on his own, thank you muchly Messrs Nolan) and that it made for a very flat character (and Two-Face is a much more complicated character than "BAWWWWWW RAAAACHELLLL LIFE IS UNFAAAIIIIIR").

However, I honestly HATED Rachel Dawes because she was always just a romantic foil for one of the guys, a damsel in distress. That was it. There really wasn't much substance to her. Which is a shame, because I really think it's a disservice to the Batman series, given how many tough and capable women the series has.

That said, it really sucks that your friends seem to think that you've gotta see something just because they like it. Unfortunately, I've bowed to such pressure before, most notably with Tropic Thunder. My God, that was a waste of seven dollars.

Hi, OP here.

A lot of people seem to hate me now. So I'm going to explain myself just a bit more.
I don't really know any British people, and most of my fandoms are American, so I really do see us Americans trying in the few British fandoms I'm in.
But it seems obvious. If you're in a fandom where a character never says 'bloody' or 'mate', why make that character then say it in your fic?
I didn't mean there aren't any good ones out there, but a lot of times, it's quite obvious that the author is not American. Like it's obvious there's an American in another country's fandom, but again, we try. We screw up, but we try.

(the secret was actually intended for Australians in my main fandom, but I guess it works all around.)

107. *watches everyone from femslash corner* I sometimes feel left out when the slashers and het-shippers start raging at each other. Don't get me wrong, I could wank pretty heavily myself if someone tried to pick a fight. But I don't care who Phoenix ends up with, which excludes me from a hefty proportion of ship wank.

Right now it seems like GS fandom is on some crazy pendulum between super-fun and super-wanky.

117. I have a similar relationship with my brother -- not so touchy-feely, but we're really close and have been mistaken for bf/gf before. The thought of sex with him makes me curl into a little ball, shuddering. But I like reading incest pairings in fandom. The thrill of the forbidden, and such.

135. The responses to this are kind of ridiculous. It's as disconcerting to see an American character say "mum" as it is to see a British character talk about their apartment. Or something. I'm not really active in any British or Australian fandoms.

I wish the people who are annoyed with this secret would use something other than Harry Potter as a reference. The books were localized for America, so it's less obvious to potential authors that it might be necessary to adapt their language. That doesn't make it right, it just makes Harry Potter a less than stellar example.
