BREAKING NEWS: People like to see something they are interested in do well.

Apparently Nerds are learning something the Jocks have known for years. No wonder they get beat up.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
They're welcome to, but I think it's also worth considering why sequels and reboots are so prevalent, how oligopolistic the entertainment industry is, and how the structure of fandom has fundamentally changed since corporations have embraced fanwork (for the most part)

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for picking this cute art to illustrate my comment!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw a headline recently about how "This May the 4th, Star Wars fans should be sad because Endgame is going to become the highest box-office film of all time"

Seriously, what the fuck is that shit?

Also, I don't understand what point you're making with the nerds vs jocks stuff

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Co-signed. A-FUCKIN'-MEN

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
This is probably the reason why I still haven't felt motivated enough to check out Sense8.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
How far back in time are we talking? Because as far as I remember from my history education slavery has been around as long as humans have been self aware enough to start being dicks to each other.

I've just given up on finding a version I won't end up hating because of the rampant, often untagged m-preg. I would be vaguely interested in some of the dynamics just for the smut but I hate m-preg with a burning passion and you never know if the fic will include it, even if it's not tagged. ABO writers are genuinely one of the shittiest people when it comes to proper, consistent tagging (right up there with "reader"insert writers).

I know what OP means, especially in YA lit, but Sense8 is...not this. It's not a perfect show but everyone has a personality and a reason for being in the story.

If video games count, I'll put in a vote for Suikoden 3. The Grasslands are pretty diverse. Plenty of folks, many from different tribes RIP Safir clan.

Just because you're wearing a brand name on your clothes doesn't mean that you're, like, committed to that brand or care about it at all

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I told you what I know, tbh anything else would just be the result of me googling it and you can do that yourself if you care

that said, I think if you're criticizing a fighting game's plot on the grounds that the mechanics of time travel aren't realistic enough, I think you've taken a wrong turn in general

Carole & Tuesday! Makes a lot of sense for a future city setting, but it's nice it's treated as normal.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about the show and didn't mean to imply I think it's bad. It's just, like the secret said, I almost never hear about the amazing plot or this cool character. Everything is about how progressive it is, which, weirdly, makes watching it sound like homework.

How is that show so far? Was contemplating of giving it a try because it looked nice.

Fair. It is pretty weak on the plot, but the characterization and cinematography are really good.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah fair point I could just google it. Tbh I was mostly confused by the idea behind it.

I don’t play the games but nothing about gamer fandom would surprise me.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad others are enjoying the artwork. For some reason it nauseates the fuck out of me.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
>why sequels and reboots are so prevalent

People like watching familiar things that they know will be good.

>how oligopolistic the entertainment industry is

It really isn't.

> how the structure of fandom has fundamentally changed since corporations have embraced fanwork

How so?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Except Lito's storyline imo. And Sun and the guy in Africa, their crossovers were awesome. I would have watched Sun's storyline as a separate show.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, their blandness was really cemented the first time they had sex. Like, really, show? Dany, who basically became khaleesi by riding her giant warlord husband like a horse, and Jon, who apparently invented going down on the ladies, are gonna do this missionary-style? That's how you wanna go?

There's only a few episodes, but it's really cute so far. Definitely a show I look forward to watching.

It's not officially out yet in English because Netflix has it and won't be for another few months. So depending on your morals and tech-savvy-ness you might want to wait.

Entertainment doesn't often have time to pay attention to the historical reasons for a person's story being much more nuanced and Anne Boleyn gets this perhaps more than most because the monarch she was involved in was ripe for writers/TV producers/film makers etc. Everyone knows Henry VIII "because he had six wives" and it's such a well-worn path it feels like the only way to make your adaption stand out is to be even more scandalous than the others in some way.

It is really lazy though to act like it was all on her being a power hungry bitch. I punch the air when I see acknowledgement that *any* of the wives couldn't exactly tell the king to shove it. See also: Catherine Howard gets maligned as well as some sort of empty headed slut.

NAYRT

It really isn't

oh, word?
