Not a fan of the series and so haven't watched beyond the beginning but.. didn't she start burning people alive in like season 1? If you're someone inclined to torture people to death, no matter how good or bad, it doesn't seem all that surprising that you're a crazy asshole somewhere deep inside.

And if you want to talk about Mad Kings, Joffrey certainly qualifies as one of those. He's probably an actual psychopath, not because he enjoys doing horrible things to people (as many GoT characters do), but because he genuinely doesn't seem to get WHY it's not great to do them.

Too much inbreeding in the Lannister line. Same thing happened with the Pharaohs. Brothers and sisters reproducing causes some fucked up people down the family line.

She had no idea how to be a peace time queen. She was raised to fight for the throne. And she has been fighting in one way or another since the show began but no one ever taught her how to rule after she won. How to bring everyone, even the people she conquered, together and make a new peaceful kingdom. It was ingrained in her from birth to fight and she didn't know any other way to rule. To me she was consistent throughout the show. She was never crazy or blood mad. She was just a War Queen and in the end after the war had no where to go.

But her downfall wasn't in her failure to rule (like King Robert)? They were still at war when she committed THE SIN and then welp, she had to go, we have no idea how she would actually rule Westeros as its Queen because... the finale happened.

If this anything like what happened with How I Met Your Mother. Like, they had decided how it was going to end at some point but when character arc and story swept past where they really needed to start angling for it, they sort of disregarded that and figured fans would understand and go along with them. So, instead of it being a culmination of story arcs and character arcs building on each other, everything got all twisted around or discarded just so they could get to that ending they had decided on.

I heard the theory that GRR Martin had told them what he was planning for the end but like in bullet point/cliffsnotes format and they just didn't bother fleshing it out properly.

Actually the finale really brought it all together. They really saved her character in the last episode and brought her hero arch roaring back in fantastic style.

They set her up as a power hungry warlord hellbent on conquering foreign lands with her magical dragon-sized flying flamethrower. It's not like they were subtle about it. The ending was rushed but that's where it was always going to end up to, Dany dead by Westerosi hands after committing atrocities.
