Off work today so slept in late. Right now I'm watching the Bengals stink up the joint. I have a fuckton of laundry to do later so I'll probably read and internet all afternoon. There's a new restaurant I'd like to try for dinner tonight so planning on that too. Have work tomorrow so I'll be getting to bed early tonight.

It's one of those days where I force myself to do everything I've been putting off in one go. Then I'm going to reward myself with a movie and a piece of caramel slice.

Went to a plant sale, bought purple star apple and chico sapote seedlings, a yellow dragonfruit cutting, and a tiny rooted vanilla orchid cutting. Just got home and I’m gonna take a nap before going to do my laundry and shower and make work lunches for the week.

Atrial fibrillation and my various chronic pain conditions have been teaming up to really stomp my ass flat lately and I'm feeling kind of rough in general right now, but I still managed to go and get a haircut that I ended up liking even more than I thought I would. Then I went to the Gamestop next to the salon and bought a Kingdom Hearts beach towel that was on clearance as well as a copy of Red Dead Redemption II. I also put a little more money towards my pre-order of Pokemon Sword and geeked out about it for a little while with the staff. After I got home my parents and I made tacos and then dad and I binge-watched Adventure Time for a while. Now I'm about to play some Skyrim while watching last night's SNL. Acacia the Bosmer druidess has some laws to break, children to adopt and some wacky werewolf shenanigans to get up to.

All in all, it's been a pretty good day.

I went to a 35th anniversary screening of Ghostbusters.

That film is only a little older than me so I'm the correct generation to have mega-nostalgia. It was a large part of my childhood, I had most of the Real Ghostbusters toys for example. But I still don't get why everyone went so hard defending it a few years ago like any other thing using the franchise name was going to erase it from existence. It's still a great film overall and I enjoy watching it but man it ISN'T life and death. Also wow Venkman is horrid when you're seeing it through an adult's eyes. I always knew there's a reason Spengler was my fave instead of the character it feels like the film *wants* me to like best.

This comment ended up longer than I intended. Oops.

I just woke up from a nap and am eating pumpkin cake while listening to rain and reading stuff here. It's nice and peaceful.

Well, since I missed two days of my migraine medicine due to the stomach flu I had this past week, I'm currently developing a bad migraine. I caught it early thanks to it being one of the few ones where I actually had an aura. So it is possible it won't last as long as they sometimes do for me because I got the secondary early med in time. We'll see. I hope not. I have court in the morning.

Just took a shower, now in bed with the lights off and ear plugs in. Going to go to sleep if I can, otherwise I'll read.

Trying to cure a horrid cold because I have to travel super early tomorrow morning to have my first day of teaching this semester. So, lots of fluids, and rest, and a splash of medication but not enough to make me miss my train... delicate balance.

How do you like your endings?

Are you a hard core happily ever after kind of person? Is it OK if stories end with everyone dead and the snows of an eternal winter blowing over their Graves? How about open, ambiguous endings?

I think maybe I'm more tolerant - fond, even - of ambiguous endings because I like imagining it for myself. I don't like stories to be tied up TOO neatly because then it reminds me that what I'm reading isn't real.

I personally loathe ambiguous endings. I would rather EVERYONE DIES and EVERYONE LIVES HAPPILY AFTER than WHO KNOWS??? FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF!!

Though I do dislike endings where the 'everyone lives happily' when it doesn't fit, as in, the characters would have had to develop amnesia about the events that occurred for them to just live happily ever after.

For me it 100% depends on the story. Happy endings are great for some stories, but some stories are much more satisfying with a bittersweet or even sad ending.

Basically, I want the ending to be appropriate for the story. Don't asspull a happy ending out of nowhere if it doesn't fit in with the rest of the story, and don't suddenly drop a massive downer ending on your audience if there was no hinting that things were going to turn out that way.

For original works, I am okay with happy, sad, or anything in between.

For fanfiction, happy endings. Always.

Because I often think this is something I'd like, but I'm stumped to come up with examples... I don't even mean recs, just ideas of plots I'd like to read or write.

Advice Thread

I've been living with family my whole life. I'm 29 now and finally moved out and am living with roommates. My family is dysfunctional so there was always a bit of fighting. Also, it was messy, noisy, and I barely had room. My new place is super quiet and clean and I have so much room.

But I can't stop crying and I don't know why. I do miss my family but they're close and I see them every weekend. It's only been a few days but I just want to pack up and go home. I don't know if it's homesickness or fear of change or what.

Anyone been in a similar situation? Should I stick it out and see how it goes?
