What genres or topics are you sick of in fiction?

Post-apocalypse and generally grim, dark futures.

Fiction where the "heroes" are only slightly better than the villains and there really isn't anyone to root for.

Retelling/reworking of legends/fairy tales/etc. that turn the villain into the hero. Making the villain sympathetic is one thing. But completely changing who they are and destroying other characters in the process? I'm really over that.

Retelling of myths that remove the magical elements/gods and goddesses/things like that. The fun for me in myths is the mystical elements that make them like fantasy. Also, invariably they just don't end up being very good most of the time.

an evil guy was let off the hook by MCs only to make trouble later, tho it's more of a plot device, but it's so predictable, come on!
Grimm dark fantasy with killer or thief MCs.
YA books "aimed at adults" according to reviews which is rubbish.
An Emperor/King/the richest man alive love interest. Boring.

What are the recently ended TV series that didn't disappoint you? Personally I'm drawing a blank.

Hard-boiled type detective (or other important professional) who is somehow the only person able to do their job despite being completely insufferable and addicted to drinking/gambling/drugs. That's not how life works. That's not how jobs work. It's competitive. There are ten people behind you at all times who can do your job just as well.

Technology is evil being the entire plot. We got the point like a decade ago and people are still making the same movie or black mirror episode. Blah.

Already sick of christmas movies and it's only November. Please no.

Bad ends. I'm perfectly fine with all kinds of grim, awful, harrowing, sad stuff going down during the course of the story, but I'm getting really, really tired of it all culminating in "everything sucks and that's it, get over it, the end." Realistic, sure, maybe, but like... idk. My depression's bad enough, I want to see some of my favorites manage to get out in one piece and be happy in the end.

The super-sad, weak, totally dependent and 'terrified' sub who can't do anything at all without orders/help.

In love and totally oblivious that they're feelings are returned while all their friends mock and make fun without actually helping (every fucking modern au steve/bucky fic ever).

Elrond in the LOTR movies. Not the right casting at all. Doesn't act like Elrond, but in terms of look/design, Weaving is too old to really play an elf. He just didn't look right.

Kili and Fili in the Hobbit movies. They looked like men, not dwarves.

Sauron in the LOTR movies. He's not a literal flaming eye, Jackson. The eye is his symbol. He has a physical form that has hands, we know that much for certain. The eye just wasn't scary enough to me.

Captain America's suit in The Avengers. Who thought that was a good idea???

Grindelwald from Fantastic Beasts.

Bonus mention of Sonic before they completely changed him.

all the ugly bad guys in cartoons and anime that have pretty designs for good guys.

Weird deformed men and almost normal looking gals in cartoons, such as Simpsons, Flintstones, Super Family ets.

Any YGO designs past the original series... Thought a GX character or two might pass, along with Yuusei ad Crow.

Weekend Plans?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2019-11-16 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
What is everyone doing?

I might go and tear up all the dead flowers and such outside. Tomorrow I will be hunting a shiny fire monkey thing on Pokemon Go. Unless I take a nap and forget to.

Parents come back Sunday. Pick them up from the airport at 7PM. So have to clean the house at some point this weekend before then.

Tomorrow morning picking up my computer from the Apple store and running by the office. Have some work I need to get done as well.

Besides that, watching Doctor Who and/or Whose Line and playing with my kitty. Staying off my foot as much as I can because it hurts a lot. And I have to drive to Del Rio Texas on Monday, which is a 3 hour drive each way, and I also have a hearing. So I know it will be a strain and I need to take it easy until then.

Almost surgery time. Surgery is Thursday.

Finally have someone coming tomorrow to fix my internet after close to a month. It's slow and keeps going in and out, and apparently there's something wrong with the main cable. They figured that out like two weeks ago but it's taken them this long to finally decide they're going to get around to fixing it. Grrrr. So now I have to get up early on a Saturday to deal with them. :(

Other than that, I'm just hanging out and relaxing because it's been a crazy couple weeks. I'm really looking forward to the holiday coming up soon!

Hoping my bed comes to me, on time, undamaged and in one piece.

Of course I managed to get the one delivery day that a cold, shitty, windy rainstorm decides it should hang around.

Sigh.

IDEK. Feeling kind of down since all my friends/family are either busy or they, like me, don't drive and the Santa Claus parade is running tomorrow right through downtown which makes all the bus routes really crappy, so it's looking like if I do anything I'll have to do it alone and I'm just not in the mood for that? Usually it doesn't bother me but, ugh...
