Totally not my place, but I think it might be worth it to talk with your friends. It sounds like you respect the culture and the importance of the figure to their culture--both historically and in a "first Disney princess that looks like me" sense. Not a fan of the dub. The voices are kinda good, but I don't think they fit the characters. Haruhi sounds like a 30 year old woman and Honey sounds like a 12 year old GIRL. Also, I can't listen to Tamaki in English without thinking of Ed from FMA.

I'm still of the opinion that Mona Marshall would have made the perfect Haruhi.

I really don't think Vic's voice fits Tamaki (and yes, I have listened to it and given a shot -- it just kinda sounds like Edward Elric trying to sound gay to me XD), Haruhi's voice is good but I'm iffy about her inflection, I actually like Hunny! Mori's good (for what little he speaks XD I couldn't tell as much with him) and Kyouya's really different but I rather like his voice. ETA: PLUS I LOVE THE TWINS OKAY. I actually love the casting for Hikaru and Kaoru. STRANGE I KNOW BUT I DO. 8D ♥;

SUMMARY: Everyone else I could get used to, but Tamaki just makes me wince. I much prefer the subs, but if you like the dub, good on you! Enjoy it ♥

I was like 4 years old when An American Tail came out and my dad took my to the movies to see it (my first time at the movies!)... and at the point where there are cats in freaking America, even though Feivel was told there weren't gonna be any (bastards!), I cried and screamed so hard and threw such a huge tantrum that my dad was asked to remove me from the theater.

I don't, of course, remember any of this myself, but it is a favorite among those embarrasing childhood stories that get told in my family.... it always brings the LOLS.

And now I told this story on F!S. I'm gonna go and die for a second, brb... :p
