121 - Dude, that is badass. Good luck! I'm sure once you're out there, fandoms will be the least of your worries.

144 - YAY! I <3 Jared and Jensen, too. :D

113. GUH! I loved him in that.

148. While I understand your shame about the AB novels (which I also read), I think it's the smaller problem.

153. I'm not a cosplayer, and at 145lbs, I'm sure you'd consider me fat - take your judgemental ass and go to hell. It's not about looking good, its about having fun and you obviously are missing that point. What do you suggest the cut-off weight be? Is it a height weight ratio, or is every one over 120lbs forbidden from cosplay in your mind? That's a pretty jackass thing to say, no matter WHERE you say it/

107. I never really got into Chobits... because yeah. D: Weird manga is weird. I agree with you, and I think that IS the direction we are heading in, sadly...

115. I think he's awesome too, but I totally wouldn't hit it either.

117. Yeah, it's the truth. Even though Sam x Frodo was a source of lulz for me for awhile, it kind of damaged the friendship between them for me whenever I watch the movies now. x.x; And I think they have a really neat friendship too, so it's sad...

153. No need to apologize about that specific cosplayer. XD Although I've seen some great overweight cosplays/cosplayers, though.

[identity profile] sablier-bloque.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
141 - Adam's death was so anti-climatic, and it made me really sad. :(

152 - After Alias, I haven't given anything JJ Abrams has done a chance. He burned me.

107

[identity profile] khym-chanur.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I personally ignore the bit in the manga where Chii's creator reveals that she doesn't have real emotions, only simulated ones (what the fuck, CLAMP?). The thing that disturbs me about Chobits is that Chii has the mind of a six year old (or even four year old) while Hideki is an adult.

She's still adorable, though.

I personally ignore the bit in the manga where Chii's creator reveals that she doesn't have real emotions, only simulated ones (what the fuck, CLAMP?).

YES. YES. IAWTFC so much. It just... it seemed to undo pretty much everything the entire rest of the manga had been saying and showing. And it makes too much make no sense -- Freya was dying from unrequited love and yet all her emotions were simulated? Chii was upset enough to almost shut down all the persocoms out of the fear that Hideki wouldn't love her and that wasn't "real emotions" because she's "just a computer"? It bewildered and baffled me and left me rather unsettled. 8[

Chii having a simplistic mind is a much more valid argument, but the way they wound up portraying the relationship by the end of the manga -- Hideki is the most special person in the world to her and she loves him, and Hideki loves and cherishes her and isn't about to force what he wants upon someone who isn't receptive to that sort of thing, both in a relationship that emphasises love and sweetness over anything at all physical -- makes me feel much better about it. It's hardly a normal relationship, but it seems like one that could work if they tried, and they seem to be. :>

[identity profile] uluviel.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
111. I don't ship it, but I got the impression that Amber has her share of control in the relationship. She definitely manipulates him too. The "relationship" is as unhealthy as it could be, but they both do their share of abusing.

Also: the Repo fandom has BNFs? Really?

144. You'll find that's often how RPSers are born. RPS was gross until you hit the right ship. It's all downhill after that.

[identity profile] u-belong-to-me.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
152. ... Are you kidding?! I LOVE that show. Walter is so much awesome.

153

[identity profile] purplealert.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no! Your poor eyes! You went through cosplay pictures and saw a fat person! Boohoohoo.
scholomance: ([hades] hades approved!)

146, 153

[personal profile] scholomance 2008-10-31 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
146. DON'T LET THE NUMBERS SCARE YOU. Out of all the fandoms I've been in, Reborn! has had some of the best, SO READ. REEEAD. XD And not everyone follows the numbering system (though I think you can find them on Wiki...?

There's gotta be a guide online. Write it on a sticky note and put it next to your computer to translate. xD

153. As someone who's got some pudge (c'mon, we're from the internet :/), I don't think fat people should NOT cosplay. They should just not cosplay like IN THAT PICTURE ABOVE (aka indecently). You can be fat and look good in a cosplay costume, if you dress in a conservative way and don't let your fat ass hang out of your skirt. You see, that's just gross and kind of indecent.

tl;dr: you don't have to be a skinny bitch to cosplay either. Seriously, fat people make up at least 50 percent of fandom.

And I mean this all in the nicest way possible.

[identity profile] oceanica.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
And to turn it around, I've seen some terrifyingly bony people in skin-hugging cosplays that let me count every rib and most of their tendons. Frankly, quite a bit more horrifying than the cosplay in 153, as far as I'm concerned.

EVERYONE needs to dress within their limits, whether cos or not. It's not just for fatties anymore!

153. I didn't know that bitch Janis Dickinson was into cosplay! Learn something new everyday.

[identity profile] callicot.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
152 - omg no one watches this show? But it's so cooool. I haven't even looked around for fans yet, but I just kind of assumed they were there.

153 - I don't think they necessarily can't cosplay, but I'd agree that anyone, even skinny ones, should try to cosplay a character whose costume suits their body type. (Because I don't like looking at bony chicks either.) I mean, it's better for self-esteem if they look good, even if they are heavy, right?

111. As much as I love the duo, I have to agree. They're both pretty messed up.

112. Aw, that's quirky cute.

113. Vampires are the new black. And I still say Severen has them all beat.

123. I never noticed until now that Rik looks like he could be Ian Curtis' brother.

129. I love this secret. Old school goths, YAY!

133. That movie is my gold standard too. It has the most brilliant opening scene set to film ever.

141. Count me in as being ticked about what they did to his character. But then again, the writers have been lousy since season two. They had a golden character in Adam only to squander it away. He should have been Peter and Nathan's father as the writers were setting that plot line up to be last season. At least that part made sense given the information shown to us. Nothing else this season has. And, yet, I still watch. Why?

[identity profile] umiyuko.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, sweetie, I completely understand. I live in Savannah, GA where it's pretty warm in the winter, and I still have a fluffy white Yoite scarf that I like to wear about. His hat, too. (I cosplay him), I like wearing the hat or the scarf. It's like keeping a part of him, and a part of the fandom, around with me. It's weirdly comforting.

Along the same vein, I keep my Yoitehat and YoiteScarf sitting atop my bookshelf, near my Nabari posters/pencilboards on the wall. People are starting to call it the Yoite shrine, ROFL. But it is sort of fun to glance over my shoulder and see them there. It looks like he just wandered in and was raiding my refrigerator. X3

...wow I sound ten kinds of insane.

Re: 124.

[identity profile] kisarazumama.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you don't sound even a bit insane to me. =) In fact, it's very, very comforting to hear other people say he matters this much to them.

(Small, not-worth-posting secret: I ran into a Yoite cosplayer at Anime USA this month and made a point of sitting behind her at the Nabari screenings. It was indescribably great to be watching Nabari episodes behind THAT silhouette.

Yeah, call me cracked. =) )

109 This is the problem with having someone you pin those kinds of hopes to. Her drama is not your drama, and you always have to get better for yourself, anyway.

105. EARLY MUSIC I AM SO THERE.
111. Ships/OTPs don't have to be healthy, and liking fictional unhealthy relationships noes not indicate unhealthy attitudes about RL relationships.
112. Awww, nice.
117. Shipping a canonically non-romantic relationship does not mean that shippers don't understand platonic relationships.
126. More fans of the Beatles are always a good thing!
150. Is this really fandom-related?
Not!Fandom: Heh. Me too.

153

[identity profile] donoka.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
153. Just to clarify, before I make this point. I have nothing against people cosplaying, over weight or on weight, even under-weight it's just a bit of fun and if they enjoy it, FINEE~
But anyways, onto my point;

I think that, if a character was made with a certain body type, the cosplayer should bare that in mind. I mean, you can't look much like the character if you're not of like..uhmn the intended weight ;a;

Other than that, if somebody is doing it just for fun, THAT IS COOL ;a;b [it's not like I laugh at people if they're not like OMG PERFECT!1]

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
126. Personally, I think its ridiculous to love the Beatles for any reason that isn't the Beatles. People who tell me they only like the Beatles because of the movie Across the Universe make my heart hurt. D:

[identity profile] missmorrichan.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
151. Right there with you, Secret Poster! What's the point of watching a fun action movie if you're just going to spend your time pulling it apart? James Bond movies are lots of fun, man, and that's all I need :D

153

[identity profile] speaky-bean.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Really, really don't agree at all. If it's making them happy, they should do it. If I don't want to look, I can look away. It's not like they're forcing me to stare at them--usually at cons people are walking around and I can always go somewhere else, look at the ground, or turn around if it's that important to me that I don't see someone's cosplay. And I don't even feel the need to do that anyway--I'm happy that they're confident enough about themselves to cosplay. More power to them. And some fat people are fucking hot anyway--weight isn't the only factor in attractiveness.
