I have a degree in history and I find Hetalia surprisingly funny...

...although, maybe it's not so surprising.

My area of interest is Soviet foreign policy and general interwar period international relations, and I think that Hetalia is fucking win.

I suppose most would think I'd find it annoying and/or offensive, but I don't. If you're really a 20th century historian, you develop a sense of humour about genocide, trenches, nuclear weapons, and racial discrimination.

Is it politically correct? No. Is it necessary to save your sanity when you study all these things for a living? Yes. Sometimes you have to laugh about how Stalin killed way more people than Hitler. It's just the way some people deal with things.

In short, don't be embarassed or feel badly about it. We all need a good laugh about these uncomfortable things sometimes.

145 Part of that might be that more people are going to be exposed to the history of 19th and 20th century global conflict through their schooling than are likely to learn about the Persian War, so there's more of a corrective out there for Hetalia than for the 300, and as a consequence more people will mistakenly take the 300 as being totally truthful.

... And Lillith was appropriated by the Jewish culture from preexisting Mesopotamian folklore. I believe Lillith Fair was named because of the more recent and popular folklore that Lillith was Adam's first wife, who left him because she didn't want to submit. This was the aspect of the tale that most people heard of in the Mid-90's, and hence the title. To what extent appropriating a mythical figure for a music festival is feminist or not...\o_O/?
