Shoddy research is laughable any way you slice it. I'm always the first to WTF at people who get tattoos of hitherto unknown Han characters, but even I had to LOL at this secret. I have a lot of respect for Evangelion, too. OP is right to point it out.

Some of us are more interested in the psychology (and biological drives, in the case of non-humans) that fictional characters would logically have based on the stresses of the lives that they lead within their fictional culture and history, than we are in whether or not fictional characters are good "role models" or "positive images". And pretty much every awful internet argument I have ever been in has had to do with the fact that the political people either LOL at the worldbuilding, Watsonian approach or deride it as being immoral because we don't care who's playing the characters or who's watching them or what "message" they send, only whether they make sense in their context.

And I can't be the only one who's really sick of this. Analysing the psychology and personality or likely (nonhuman) biological drives of a fictional character is no more inherently LOL than wasting hours and hours and hours analysing fiction for its political messages and content or its ability to model "healthy relationships" to people who, if they are old enough to have relationships, are old enough to find the self-help shelf in the bookstore and to recognise that certain writers are not found there.

Either it's all LOL, because omg, what you could be doing with all that time, or none of it's LOL.

...and written characters cannot be in situations which, realistically speaking, would make them more susceptible to psychological problems?

Saying the Winchesters' upbringing has a lot of the factors that predispose siblings towards incestuous relationships is no more inherently bizarre than saying a fictional character that has gone to war has probably had experiences with could induce PTSD. It may or may not be correct, depending on how the experiences of the fictional character(s) in question have been written, but I don't see why the fact they are written characters means the potential implications of their back story should not be discussed.

111. Man, every time I see RPattz in an interview, I sort of want to give him a big hug, some booze, and a comb. I just feel really bad for him. :(

124. I did read the book, and I still like the movie better. :( Read the sequel as well.

140. Ehh, in most anime Western religious stuff is usually added only for ~mystery and coolness~ and not meant to be taken seriously. Hell, I think one of the writers/producers/whatever of Evangelion admitted most of the Judeo-Christian imagery was added for effect, although they did sort of research Angel names.

148. You'll find it someday, bb. I found mine and now I can't leave, even though I sort of want to.

105. Or maybe you just like hotheads?

107. I loved Xena and how she changed thru the series from who she was when she first appeared in Hercules.

108. Skeptical me is very skeptical. Even if it was true, it doesn't give you a good reason to assault someone and you shouldn't feel good about it.

118. I guess you're in the fandom when you interact with a group of people who like/love the show and/or characters or whatever.

122. Why hello again, wank bait.

123. I would like to be his friend.

124. Why you must "lose respect" for them, seriously. I agree people should give the book a try, but if they love the Disney version, I see no wrong.

129. Well fuck. Maybe the scanlators can change that....

132. I feel kinda bad I have no desire to read it at all although I liked the design of the extremely-ultra rare version she made last year for close friends and family.

135. Actually, I've seen a couple of my guy friends done that.

136. D: I want to do a drinking game to one post but I'm afraid of alcohol poisoning after one post....

140. SERIOUS BUSINESS IS SERIOUS. While I applaud any work that actually does it right, I ain't hating on ones doing it wrong and do convincingly. Any anime fan who watched Eva knows Anno used Hebrew/Christian symbology for the lulz and/or trying to make a point using a loose interpretation of it. Man, I gave up expecting accuracy in stuff like that and history because the biggest concern for the artist/creator/whatnot is to keep things entertaining. Honestly, I don't think CLAMP even thought much on that spread since it's just a spread.

145. Oh wow, you prolly threw a pitch fit when the director gushed on how historically accurate it was (lol, right). Honestly, I don't think one period of history has a bigger claim of Serious Business than the other, I think it undermines all of them when you say it like that.

152. I like when people are passionate about stuff, but, yeah, sometimes it pulls out a ಠ_ಠ face. Nothing is that serious, y'know. Although I don't think it's that great that you like your dogs better than people for this reason alone.

153. LOL.

156. This made me lol....

111. He kind of sucked.

127. So long as I'm bitching about sues and overreactions, I hate that the way you represent Sues is by having one of these dolls and making them look sufficiently pretty and slightly out of the ordinary. None of those are particuarly appealing but why am I the only one who thinks a character should look distinctive? That doesn't mean they have to sparkle or wear ridiculous and impractical dress everywhere, but they don't have to walk around in a grey frock either.

139. I don't know what this is but I laughed.

140. Who fucking cares? Really? Sometimes I think research is overrated, especially when it leads to hilarious religious faux-pas that only English audiences will understand!

159. Yay, projecting! Have you got any plans to actually deal with that anger or are you just going to be an asshole and post about it to Fandomsecrets?

161. OH MAN, YOU'RE MAJORING PSYCHOLOGY AND YOU THINK IT WOULD BE TOTALLY CANON?! WELL NOW I'M TOTALLY SOLD, I GUESS THERE'S NO POINT IN ARGUING!

No, this was a secret I made a while back and then posted recently in a big batch of them. At the time I was angry HULK SMASH. Now, I don't really care. My friend has dropped WoW, so no more ignoring me for half an hour at a time in order to go on raids or what-the-fuck-ever or spending all her time making my eyes spin talking about pallies and aggro and other shit I neither care about nor understand.
