I think that kind of fandom - the kind of fandom that is, to put it bluntly, primarily centered around being horny for the male lead - does still exist to some extent, even if it's much less common than it used to be. Lucifer feels a lot like that to me, for instance (although I'm not in the fandom myself).

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Kris/Susie is the only ship I've had for the Undertale/Deltarune universe; I like it in either in a romantic or platonic sense. They remind me of one of my own friendships and it's not often I have any sort of personal investment in a ship. But yeah, totally agree about wanting more Kris/Susie social reject misadventures.

I've never read this, so I can't comment on this particular book, but I've read a couple of books that came highly recommended and have excellent ratings and I was just like, "Where is the epic love story? Where are the well-written characters? What am I missing that everyone else is seeing?". Different strokes, I guess, but it does feel a little frustrating.

I mean, my question is really, what the fuck are we talking about here? What is the earthly use of the concept of headcanon in interpreting a fucking song?

On reading the lyrics, yes, the implicit speaker of 'betty' is male. I don't think there's any reasonable argument against that. Against that, you have the fact that the song is a love song to a teenage girl sung by a woman in which the gender of the speaker is never explicitly identified and is assumed from a single mention of the speaker's name.

The queerness of the song exists in that setup: in the fact that it exists as a love song sung by a woman to a female figure for all but one word of the song. People who talk about the song being queer are correctly identifying a major part of the construct of the song. They are not making it up. They are not constructing headcanons. They are interpreting the creative choices made by Taylor Swift. I agree that there's no good justification for talking about "James" as a female figure, but I also don't think it's even necessary to do so in the first place.

Or at least, that just happens to be the way I feel about it.

I'm kind of confused by this but I will say there've been a few different times where I've seen "AOC" written in some comment online somewhere and been completely baffled because it made no sense in context, until I figured out that they were abbreviating "age of consent" and not talking about the person.
