Yes, you can, because just because you get married out of high school doesn't mean you AREN'T entitled to a happy ending.

They're more realistic than you think. My parents dated 3 months in high school before they got engaged and Dad went to the military. 25 years later, they're still happily married.

Just because it doesn't happen for everyone, and because most people aren't mature when they finish high school, doesn't mean it holds true for everyone.

Write your story how you like, but don't disparage happy endings as being unrealistic.
(This, and I haven't even picked up Twilight to see what it's about)

I don't think the OP was "disparaging" happy endings, but s/he's probably worried that other fans will b/c what "Twilight" did with the "everyone survives and lives happily ever after" has made what could TOTALLY happen and is, to a degree, realistic (for some) is really... kind of extreme. No one died. No one suffered any ill consequences. Everyone seriously just ends up happy. THAT'S IT.

...So a similar ending might cause people to go "WTF!? TOO SCHMOOPY!"

IDK, just a guess.

120--but the 2 of them together are sooooooooooooooooo hot.

144--complete with his horrible cocaine addiction?

168--i find his huge sexual appeal amusing because he's so god damned effeminate. i don't care if he was in my favorite movie ever, apparently in his mind elf prince=surprised all the time. really? legolas is like, 3000 years old, i doubt there's much he'd be surprised by anymore.

What's a pocket girl? And 106, 167, 152, 144.

I think it's less an issue of morality than legality. Child pornography is a serious issue; you might want to err on the side of caution.

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
113. I salute you. I was twelve and had a fangirl crush on Marcus, which is less hardcore. But I never doubted that Garibaldi (and Jerry Doyle) was awesome.

116. It's pretty sad that this has to be a secret.

164. So long as you're not accusing everyone who brings up valid criticisms of it of being a butthurt AsuCaga fanbrat who bashes Meyrin...hey, we all like things that have huge gaping flaws sometimes. I love the original SEED, but I'll admit it's not perfect (as much as I wish the oldschool fanboys and the 00 fandom would stop hatin' on it so much). I can't bring myself to watch Destiny because of what it did to Mwu (who was my favorite in SEED), but there are parts of it that sound really cool, even amidst all its issues.

If it makes you feel better, I don't think Beat's white. And seeing as how Miyashita Underpass is within running distance of where he lives, I don't think he's suburban either.

112. I have no idea who this is or what this secret is about, but that's a great pun, I lol'd.

118. Aaaaugh, same here! Such a perfect couple, dammit!

152. Barbossa is fucking AWESOME, and I don't even need to be anonymous to say it. SO. FUCKING. AWESOME. I clapped and cheered so hard at the end of Dead Man's Chest that total strangers started clapping with me.
...Would also hit it. Him and Davy Jones.

too big 2: Ahaha, lol'd at Adrian eating the squid. But I agree - I just generally want them to do a good job with Rorschach.

144. Heheheh… I love him to death, but we’d drive each other crazy.

165. There is nothing wrong with happy endings. Whether a reader likes the happy ending or not depends on their own preferences. Write what you want. If it's crap, it won't get published. If it's marginally better than crap, it'll get published and have a small following - if you're lucky, even a few fandom elitists of its very own. But people are going to criticize your writing no matter what you write, or how you portray it. Screw them, otherwise nothing gets done. Writers have to be mean - it's in the job description.

It seems to me that you aren't worried about "happy endings" so much as a cliches. If your story is a cliche, then yeah, that's gonna be a strike against it. But if you make it somehow original, somehow your own, then you can feel proud of it even though no matter what there will be some people who don't like it.

PS: Stephanie Meyer is not the bane of contemporary literature. Geez, you'd think she was the only writing publishing *anything* the way lovers and haters go on about her.

Seconded. She's fun to mock, but a joke can only be repeated so many times before it gets old...

I have no idea if Jesse Spencer is into BDSM, but I think Chase definitely was--if he hadn't been he'd have admitted to knowing what was going on a lot sooner, instead of being all "...okay, I used to date this girl who..."

He knew Annette the instant he saw her. I think Chase dropped the girl who wanted to be burned because she was too extreme a masochist for him; ever since finding out he's THAT GOOD at hypnosis I've always imagined that he's into mental domination/mind control more than physical sadism.

And I bet he's really amazing. (Sadly I think Cameron is probably way vanilla.)

I always wish Chase would get with Peter Petrelli, who dearly needs a strong man to order him around all the time since he's always looking for one; since his powers are manifested in terms of his emotional states, Chase could even keep him under control.

Re: 129.

[identity profile] vitawash24.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, I dunno. I think Cameron, on discovering that there were flavors outside of vanilla, would have no trouble expressing interest in them. *g* (Although I can't see her being into the submissive side of things. And how has no one written this fic yet?!)

Luckily my friends IRL aren't on f!s, so they can't taunt me for talking about this, haha.

I agree, I'd love to assume Sharpay goes to Juliard. She deserves it, her life completely revolves around that. Also, Ryan doesn't seem to have many other friends, I would be sad to see him go off all alone.

Re: 124

A girl so small she fits in your pocket so that you can take her anywhere and pull her out at any time you want. Generally speaking, 5'3"ish and under qualifies a pocket girl.

115 - My favorite Doctor is dead. Tennant's got years of acting ahead of him, and four specials yet to come. So yeah, go cry more.

129 - That scene was very very hot, no? ::scuttles off to find the episode::

Oh god yes.

i think Chase is my favorite character of House's original crew... tied with Kutner for most fun on the show.

Some people meet the right person in high school, others when they're 50 and some never. It's a matter of luck.

Write your own damn book the way you want to and stop worrying about whether or not SMeyer has "ruined" yours. Her book has nothing to do with yours. I have no idea if it's better or worse than yours, but...I could do without the teal deer.

Hate Twilight if you want to, but it's not responsible for your problems, you are.
