107: This is quite possibly the most offensive secret I've EVER read. I'm one of a so-called litter, and unless you're in my or their situation, you don't know anything about it. Just because our parents just decided they wanted kids doesn't give you the right to judge us. Heaven forbid people actually choose what they want to do. If my existence offends you, then you seriously need to get off your high horse. To suggest my mother EVER neglected me is downright insulting and ridiculous. She practically gave up her life for us, so I take high offense to anyone suggesting otherwise. Good day to you sir.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-27 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Cry more. Shitting out a litter of kids, giving up your life for them...am I supposed to think that's heroic? Something to aspire to? It's disgusting. You have so many kids that you lose yourself as a person and become a uterus with a head. Yeah, that's something I never want.

This is not pro-choice, OP.

Also, the comments in response to this secret makes it seems like adoption is so simple and straightforward it should be at the top of anyone's list. It really isn't. The standards are extremely rigorous, and hey, not all couples are Brangelina. Plenty of people get turned down for seemingly arbitrary reasons all the time.

Now if you really want to provide love and care for children who really need your help, become foster parents. I heard it's also easier to move up to adoption if you become foster parents first.

123: As neither that show or that movie are supposed to be faithful to medieval texts (the entire point of the Beowulf movie is that it isn't faithful to the original story) you're probably safe...

125: Didn't Dr Manhattan get *more* detached? By the end, anyway. Then again, I haven't seen the new version of The Day The Earth Stood Still yet so I don't know what happens at the end.

162: Wow, why had I not heard about that. I am yet to see Martin Freeman do anything other than 'slightly inept/slightly inept and cynical' though, which I do not want.

108) Maybe it's because the guy's penis looks like it's going through the other guy's thigh? Talk about anatomical!fail right thar.

112) Whaa? Are we watching the same movie and seeing the same self-centered jerk of a wizard who got his ass saved by Sophie god knows how many times? It doesn't seem like it.

134) After seeing that image in so many secrets, I've finally realized why it comes across as unsettling. It's the creepy soulless eyes. They all look they're waiting to eat me or something. :<

141) I agree with the sentiment, but...*bites tongue*

147) I don't think you're weird, but I do think both shows are equally as shitty and wouldn't cry if they were taken off of the air. Sorry.

So many good ones today!
112: IA but only if he had Christian Bale's sexy voice <3
114: A-FUCKING-MEN! She is NOT Lois Lane.
127: Eh, I'm sure they'll give more focus on Gwen next series (well, I hope and pray they do 'cause I love her).
135: FUCK KIT. MOLLY AND ADDY FTW!!!!!!!
140:I get your point and I bet you aren't the only one to think so. I hope that maybe this can work itself out without wank *crosses fingers*
148: WORD. Characters that are poorly acted and/or written do not appeal to me. I'm not just going to like one of them just because they are the same gender as me nor am I going to be made to feel that bad that I don't like them.

"Characters that are poorly acted and/or written do not appeal to me."

If you dislike all female characters and like most or all of the male characters (which I'm not saying is true in your case), it isn't the characters... it's you. If you can't find a single female character on a show you otherwise find well-written that appeals to you (again, not saying it's true), it's not the show - it's you. That's the argument that people are making about post #148, not that OMG you're evil for not liking every single female character -- and if you have run across that, trust me, people like me want them to STFU even more than you do.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-27 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
107. YES. It is fucking disgusting! Vagina clown cars aren't sexy, breeding like rabbits isn't proof of how good of a person you are. I see someone who does that and just think they're pathetic. In the case of the Kate + 8 they had two kids and still went for IVF to pop out a few more, putting all six children & herself at risk and took a chance that her twins might lose their mother? If that's not selfish, I don't know what is.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-27 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly doubt that being "sexy" is what women who are trying to conceive are going for. Jesus Christ, some of you people should either research your facts or just shut the fuck up for the greater good of humanity.

[identity profile] soft-sweater.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
174 - uh did I write this? All I did while I was homebound was watch clips of Whose Line and QI... It kept me sane. I love these shows.

I wrote fic for it, just after I finished the game.

Glad someone out there thinks the same way as I do.

107 - THIS. Every time I see ads for those shows, I yell at the TV "Have you people not heard of birth control!?" But hell, I guess if the families have the money to take care of all the kids and their faith doesn't permit them to use ANY form of birth control, then whatev. It's their pocket books.

114 - THIS. I stopped watching Smallville before she showed up, but on the few hlances I got (like the Maxima episode), I was like "WTF?" She was just so... ugh! All-over, not Lois-like at all. For me, Lois will always be Teri Hatcher. *_* The comic-verse has Lois with a lot of different personalities, but I think Teri and the screenwriters of L&C:tNAoS did the best job interpreting it for the times.

135 - Kit in particular, or ALL American Girl dolls? I used to want one when I was about 11 or so... but yeah, they don't have very "interesting" faces. But then again, you can customize them with hair/skin/eye color, so you can go a bit nuts with that. I cringe every time I look at modern Barbies, because even if they've got all these new facial expressions and friends and cool color-changing hair and whatever, it's like... Ew, what happened to Barbie?! So I think the American Girls are better. (Should I be worried that I can readily identify them?)

137 - YAY, WINRY! :D :D :D

152 - THIS. It always disturbs me when people say that Kira/Light was good/great/the good guy whatever, and we got him trying to kill his dad (who was NOT a bad guy at all)! That wasn't even toward the very end of the manga, but it was in the end of the movies, and it even shocked Misa. I'm glad Souichirou lives in the movies.

I love you so fucking much. Thanks.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-27 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
in May of 2003, the Gosselins were presented the opportunity to adopt a Korean child.
they declined, and continued their fertility treatments.
Kate was 24 years old when they first began the treatments (normally, doctors prefer you to be 25+) and had only been married a short time. How does that even happen?
She also "dumped" her first doctor after he wouldn't give her IUI post-twins. She just got another doctor who gave her what she wanted, then asked the state of Pennsylvania for handouts when the six were born - even though she and Jon were working, had plenty of money, and were getting handouts out the ass. The Gosselins refused to accept anything that didn't match, or that looked "used." Wow, what cool people.

#107 - YES! I think the same thing and I told my bf when we saw an advert for the show the other night. We were both horrified.

107. The Duggars are creepy. I wouldn't go so far as to say "they should be ostracised for overpopulation" because there are a lot of people choosing not to have children at all (I'm one), but their twisted freaky fundamentalism should not be celebrated and if it wouldn't be so painful for their kids I would wish that at least 3 of them would come out of the closet as gay. :D (Just on the basis of statistics, and because they would hate it so. but I can't wish on the kids what those parents would probably do.)

115. I can't take animal rights activists seriously. Do I care about animal welfare in food and clothing production and pet overpopulation? HELL YES. Do I think animals are the moral equal of humans? HELL NO. I work in medical research, wear leather, eat meat and IT'S NOT GONNA CHANGE. I am a speciesist and I am proud of that. If you choose not to do these things, I'm okay with it, but leave the rest of us alone. Also, those freaks that get into labs on our campus do not give one flying shit what happens to those animals after they "free" them. When they get into labs they let every animal loose regardless of its medical condition and they let them stampede and kill each other. They once "liberated" a secretary's pet turtle on her desk and it was trampled. When they get into the labs we find the animals dying and diseased ones among the normal ones. Our techs really care for these animals and they get SO upset. If I see anyone protesting on my campus I watch them like the eye of Mordor and if they even look like they're gonna do anything freaky I call security at once. I also remember when they were protesting at Macys when I work there. Also, if anyone ever throws paint on me? I will so sue their ass for assault.

123. Do it. It's just a freakin' TV show. Besides, if you are a medieval scholar you know that we actually don't know if Arthur even existed. There's one line, in what, Nennius or Gildas? I forget. And then that bit in Bede. The rest of it is all fiction and legend.

135. Addy was always my favourite, then Felicity.

148. Amen.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-27 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
115. This is something I've always had pretty strong feelings about. Plenty of protesters like you describe seem blissfully ignorant of animal welfare (as opposed to animal rights). While they may be fighting for animal rights as they "liberate" animals from labs like yours, they're completely disregarding the welfare of these animals and that in and of itself infringes on the rights they believe that animals should/do have.

Wikipedia says "[Animal welfarists] may believe that humans have a moral responsibility not to cause cruelty (unnecessary suffering) to other animals." When you "liberate" an animal and leave it without care that it may be trampled, exposed to disease or left without food/shelter or the ability to obtain it you are contributing to unnecessary suffering.

I don't eat meat, I don't wear leather, and I'm very uncertain about where I stand in regards to using animals for medical research and where the line is between human rights and animal rights. However, I know that those who work with animals in research do care about the animals and they treat them with as much respect to their welfare as possible. If you disagree with the practice of animal use in medical research, don't defeat your own purpose by disregarding animal welfare.

You wouldn't put a human in such a risky—possibly deadly—situation. Treat an animal with the same respect.

Wow. If anything, the reactions to this secret make me even more ashamed of humanity than I am already.

I'm ashamed of humanity that those shows, and those people, even exist.

Why didn't you just say "I'm pro-choice, but by that I mean if you don't agree with my worldview/my choice you're WEIRD and FREAKY?"

Re: 107

(Anonymous) 2008-12-31 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Pro-choice /= approval

Pro-choice does NOT mean celebrating and accepting every choice people make. It simply means accepting the fact that they have that choice (someone can consider abortion as wrong and not something they would do, but still accept another woman's right to choose whether or not to have one). Yes, you can choose to have 18 children. That does not mean everyone else has to agree with, support, or celebrate your choice.

The Duggers chose to have 18 children. I have a rather angry, vitriolic gut reaction whenever I see adverts for their show and choose to think negative thoughts about them. You can choose to consider me a close-minded, judgemental douchebag for my feelings.

That is pro-choice.

[identity profile] vespawoman.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
107 I hate those shows so fucking much! Especially 17 Kids and Counting. There is no fucking reason to have that many kids these days. Are they going to use all those kids as farm hands or something? I mean, really.
