112: Read the book. No, really. I bet it will change your mind. Its a great book, I preferred to the movie. But read it and tell me hes not a bit of an asshole.

147: You liked it better than Saul? srsly? I liked Saul better, it at least had a story. As long as you understand that Tim&Eric is a parody, Saul is a parody of H.R. Puffinstuff.

161: Did you, too, then, watch the whole series replacing the word "drill" with the word "metaphor"?

I agree! While I don't so much have a problem with the number of children one decides to have (if they can take care of them), I do have issues with their children being paraded around for fame.

Re: 107

[identity profile] mahkia.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Not only being paraded around for the sake of fame itself, but they make it sound like having children is such an accomplishment. Before anyone assaults me, I understand that bringing a child into the world must be an incredible feeling---it's life, and you fucking created it! However, it's not like it's a skill; anyone can pump out a kid or twelve. =/

That was my reaction to that comm, too, OP. I prefer slash, but with 'Merlin', for the first time in forever, I found myself actually liking the different het pairings and I had read a few het fics. I also liked the way everyone seemed pretty much okay with everything - there was lots of cross-shipping going on.

Then I saw this comm and read people's comments in the introductory post and just like that *snap*, my het love was gone. It just seemed incredibly divisive to me and caused me to run back to the slash corner of fandom. I know my reaction may not be logical, it's just that remarks like, "Slash is everywhere and I just couldn't stand it, and "I joined the fandom recently and there was slash everywhere, so I for one, needed a safe haven, struck me as, not so much pro-het (which is fine), but as anti-slash and that irked.

Re: 140

[identity profile] mahkia.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
While I'm not a member of the fandom in question, I completely agree with your post. Not everyone has to like slash, or prefer het, but I like to think that within a fandom, all camps can coexist. At the very least, you share a common bond in being involved in the fandom to begin with. It's sad when people feel they have to set such strong divisions.

165. I suggest you go watch the scene in I Know What You Did Last Summer where Ruby possesses the motel maid, and then come back and tell us again how the problem it's her dialogue, and not Genevieve's wooden, emotionless delivery of said lines.

107 - I agree, though, I am fairly sure Jon and Kate only meant to have like 2 kids and ended up with one set of twins and one set of sextuplets, so I can't really get on their case. The Duggars, however, just want to pump out as many kids as possible.

116 - secret RPGs are the best kind, I think.

121 - lol these grapes are sour. When WASNT it all about these things? Seriously, explain it to me.

142 - I almost started crying for him. I don't understand how no one can want him, he's just such a big (demented) teddy bear.

147 - I love Tim and Eric, but it is hard to find anyone else who does.

[identity profile] mahkia.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but a big part of it for me was plain denial. Season 1 was good, and season 2 offered just enough to keep me mildly interested. I stopped watching during the last third of season 3. That was the point where I went, "Wow, no." Someone's either not trying enough, or trying far too hard. I can't tell which. D: And it may always have been that way; I got into the fandom late. But there was certainly a large helping of denial involved that kept me interested as long as I was. =/

I know how you feel. Some fics you can read and go "Yeah, that was pretty cool", and some fics you just want to FLAIL THE FUCK OUT at someone. Unholy verse definitely falls into the second category. I may have even cried a little bit at the ending and felt completely lame because omg I have never cried at a fanfic before in my life. I would also sacrifice a small animal to get the next fic sooner. :(

...And see, this is why I need someone to flail to. Lol.

107- Urgh, this is one of the worst things about fandom. The insane child-hating, the insults, the whingeing trying to appeal to overpopulation. Guess what? A few more kids won't hurt the world in the scheme of things! Guess what? Some people like big families! Guess what? Using words like breeder and litters doesn't make you funny or clever, it just makes you a childish brat (how ironic!).

I haaate fangirls bleating about saving the world with their childfreeness while contributing nothing of value to the world. Get out there and plant a fucking tree instead of slagging off other womens' choices.

147- Ah, it's that show! People don't like it? Someone put it on at a party I was at. The "Name Ten Things That Aren't Jackie Chan" sketch had the entire room screaming with laughter. :D

123 - Doooo iiiit! I go by the rule that Merlin should not be taken seriously when it comes to representing Arthurian legend - just enjoy the show! Besides, if they follow everything exactly as it should be, there wouldn't be any mystery or suspense to the storyline; we'd know exactly where its heading and what would be around each and every corner. And that's no fun. Better to think of it as only loosely based off the legends.

143: Juri is awesome. And cheerful (to start with). And why is cheerful a bad thing to be in a character? Can a cheerful character not be just as deep as a miserable angsty character or something? I love cheerful characters, but they always seem to get the pointy end of the plot-stick. =(

157: See, I loved Matt but shipped Tai/Sora. =/

172: The thing they have in common? They are all AWESOME. I approve of your taste in fictional male characters XD

174: Whose Line? is one of the best cures for being lonely and miserable. It's just so silly XD

You consider yourself a 'purist' because you've seen the revival?
YOU'RE DOIN' IT WRONG!

Now, don't get me wrong, personally? I don't consider myself a purist in any way, but still, The Revival =/= Original Canon. I'm also not saying that the revival is bad, not at all, it is, in fact, the recording I like best, but that's because I'm not a big fan of Angela Lansbury.

But as far as productions go? Pirelli is a dude. Period.
In fact, he should be a larger guy than Sasha is. At least twice his size. He's a big rotund guy with a liiiiittle tiny voice, which is why he's such a fun character.

120. Good fic can have smut, and do it better than the smut-ficcers. I have no qualms with smut. The problem is that lots of readers are just looking for a quickie smutfic, and are too lazy to read stories that would mean they’d actually have to think. Smut = popularity. Smut =/= good fic. Good fic =/= popularity. Write depending on what you want to be known for – quality writing, or fan service.

129. Vogler was a grade-A jerk, but I don’t think he was worse than Tritter. I think they were far too similar, and there was more to Vogler’s problem with House than lack of a labcoat. It started that way, and Vogler is certainly anal about every single rule being followed to thel etter. But he had legitimate reasons to get on House’s case too. House breaks all the rules, which can be very scary for someone in charge who knows what the price will be if someone with enough influence every has a problem with him. And that one very moving episode where Vogler refused to let the pregnant woman with cancer get an unapproved treatment, it does make sense not to screw with a potentially great new ttreatment with a patient who doesn’t fit all the criteria to undergo it.

I’m not saying he was in the right, but I’m saying he had more substance as a character than Mr. Bully. House breaks rules all the time; Vogler and Tritter may have had unreasonable vendettas against him, but they were also the only characters on the show who actually treat House the way someone like him would be treated in real life.

107. Agreed about 17 Kids and Counting, since that bullshit family is the direct result of IF GAWD WANTS US TO HAVE CHILDREN THEN WE WILL~ but you might want to actually do... any research at all into Jon and Kate before you get up on your high horse because they happen to have a lot of kids. They tried having one baby -- they had twins. They decided to try to have one more baby -- which would make a total of THREE, might I add? -- and had sextuplets, and decided not to, you know. Randomly kill them just because they weren't what she wanted. I highly doubt they'll be trying to have any more children.

134. It might be the setup. It doesn't bore me, I just can't pay attention to it for more than a few strips at a time -- I think because of the format of it? I seem to have a problem paying attention to comic strip formatted mangas unless I'm holding an actual compilation in my hands, haha. ;; Maybe you'll have better luck with the anime, and/or when volumes start being published!

146. I cannot even respond to this without getting irrationally angry. But not with you, OP. Carry on. (:

170. Ditto this one.
