Um, no. The strange and spectacularly ill-advised revival cast Pirelli as a woman. He's not "supposed to" be played by a woman and never was before. See the original Broadway/London casts, the video with Hearn/Landsbury, and the Concert.

It's supposed to be a tenor. I grant that the movie does fail on this point anyway, but it being a woman in the film would have been ridiculous. It wouldn't have suited the adaptation.

107. One of the couples posted there did not mean to have eight children, they had twins, and then on the next time around they got sextuplets, so you know it wasn't like they were trying to have a baby farm or anything.

The Duggars are another, but honestly I don't think there is anything one can do about it, I don't want to tell people you can only have this number of children, it is a thorny issue. And my mom came from a family of 11 and she was towards the end and so I was glad that my mom's family was not castigated or ostracized.

167. I sincerely disagree that Pirelli is "supposed" to be played by a woman. He wasn't in the original production; I can only assume that's a revival thing. All productions are different (and I recently saw one in which Pirelli was played by a woman, and she was TERRIBLE), so it seems kind of ridiculous to claim that any character is "supposed" to be played by a certain type of person. That said, I loved Sacha in that role.

107. There's a big difference between both those families, and they shouldn't be bundled together like that. The Duggars just have decided that they'll just keep on pumping out children as long as the wife can (which is ridiculous), whereas the Gosselin's used fertility treatments, and have no desire to have anymore children.

I live in the same town as the Gosselins and, from what I've heard, they're horrible, horrible people. Especially Kate. (I'd go into more detail, but most of the information involves the twin girls and I don't feel comfortable talking about kids that young.) And the Duggers are part of the Quiverful (http://www.quiverfull.com/) movement. I ignore the shows as a matter of principle.

I just have to clarify, because that's not how I meant it at all.

I wasn't talking about people in fandom generally, just myself personally, in a sense that - *I* personally have something that I can fall back on that doesn't involve fandom.

Don't get me wrong, I *love* fandom and wouldn't be without it for the world, because it's given me so, so much. But I'm just saying that sometimes I feel thankful that not everything I do, and not eveything I am is defined by fandom.

I'm sorry if it came across as rude, but that wasn't my intention at all.

101. Fandom is fun, but, for me, it doesn't replace RL interaction. And I'm naturally a rather shy person in regards to setting up meetings or making dates, so maintaining a RL social-life takes effort. BTW, in relation to this, all this snow is giving me a case of Cabin Fever I don't think even Yuletide can fix!
