Yeah, because cynicism and naysaying is SO MUCH MORE USEFUL than actually trying to come together as a fandom and do something about it.

Sure, some people are going to be irritating about this, like people are irritating about every other thing that ever happens in fandom. But personally, I'd rather people be getting up in arms about something that's ACTUALLY IMPORTANT (ie Hollywood's seriously fucked up attitudes and policies regarding race) than continuing to fight over who Katara's going to sleep with.

I don't usually say things like this on FS, but seriously: Fuck off, OP. If you don't like it, filter your friends list and find something else to do for a while.

Engaging in fandom is fun, the moment it stops being fun for a person means that they should get out, and part of the things that can make it less fun is what is going on in the fandom around you. Fandom is not a loyalty contest, and is not a devotion. It is a hobby and as such no one is weak from leaving something that no longer brings them enjoyment.

128. At least the cast thing is a legitimate complaint unlike the absoluted stupidity that was the ship wars. And most people who wrote letters didn't think that that alone would change the cast, they just wanted to let it be known that kind of SHIT is not ok. Personally I hope the movie flops so Hollywood will know that that kind of thing is not ok.

120 - Is that's what I think it is. . . I'm not sure if I'd say it's the most powerful (I can never claim something to be "the most") but it's up there.

I dunno. I mean, to be really involved in fandom, to take your time to write the fanfiction and draw the fanart, doesn't that take a bit of devotion to your fandom? The vast majority of the people in fandom are in fandom because they really are devoted to something.

I mean yeah, it should be taken lightly, with a grain of salt, and people should have fun with it. But to turn out the good stuff, the stuff that people love to read and look at, you have to have a certain amount of devotion.
