101. I would NOT say "not devoted enough," I would say you have an attitude problem. XYZ didn't ruin the fandom for you, YOU ruined the fandom for you. I still don't understand why someone else doing something stupid means you stop liking a book or a show. It's not XYZ, it's your reaction to XYZ, and it's definitely under your control.

109. Wait wait wait, what happened?! D: Aggggh.

118. Wow, I'm really sorry, that's awful. :(

126. IAWTC. I used to love Ten, and now his self-righteousness is just too much for me. Agh.

132. Wow, I'm going to go look that one up on amazon. Thanks, OP.

101 - THIS. My mom's always said you choose how you feel about any given thing, so it's made me think twice before saying something like "X made me feel like this" or "Y ruined Z for me." Other things/people can't do that. You make the choice to feel/act the way you do. Plus, even people with valid "excuses" like "I shared the fandom with someone who is no longer in my life, and seeing/reading it again is a painful reminder of them," I think "ruined" is too strong a word.

101-Oh noes!! Someone won't think I'm devoted enough to a work of fiction! Sometimes some fandoms attract more idiots and elitists than not and some people don't want to ruin something they enjoy by being around annoying fuckhead.

134-Are you referring to the secret someone made about throwing the Twilight book at some customer? Because don't let that scare you off, the OP was trying to be ~edgy~. A lot of people think Twilight sucks, myself included, but that shouldn't stop you from reading what you want.

O.M.G. I can actually see where you're coming from with that! And now I want you to write your idea. I want it a bit more than I think I should. I want it BAD.

Also, Aldi and Lidl are definatly twins!

Also, also, what about Waitrose? Tesco's other supermarket? Or, is Waitrose an ex? Could M&S have been with Waitrose previously? Damn! Now I'm thinking about it too much too!

Not yet.

Or... I might just go to bed XD Eh, we'll see what happens in the morning! :D

...Oh my God that 'shop is hilarious. (It is a 'shop, right?)

It is indeed an awesome book, but I think I would die if there were a fandom with fic, because it would feel like it was just rubbing in my face that the second book in the cycle never was and never will be written.

108 - This secret is so sweet. OP, you've made my day. :)

156 - Admittedly I watched the movie featuring her, and it really got me to love her character. I tend to think everyone has a bit of her in them.

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
101. How "devoted" are you supposed to be in the first place, though? What the hell is "devoted enough"? I tend to agree that they're kinda doing it wrong, but this secret's kind of ridiculous. Are we all supposed to be totally devoted to each and every one of our fandoms, now?

103. See, I'm totally tempted to write crossover 'fics where they DO mesh pretty perfectly in my head. I can't think of it as anything but a crack idea otherwise. XD;

104. Aaand this is why I seriously need to read this thing. OUR OWN OPINIONS, WE CAN HAS THEM, AND THEY IS GOOD. ♥

106. No opinions about your actual secret because I don't know the woman or the fandom, but that last sentence and sentences like it will never not be annoying. :/

108. Awesome secret is undoubtedly awesome. Go you!

113. IT'S ILLEGAL ON FANFICTIONDOTNETZ, THAT'S WHERE. Image Hahaha, but I get what you're saying otherwise, since finding goodfic on LJ I'm almost afraid to ever go looking around the Pit -- though there are some stories on there that are really good. They're just buried under piles and piles of crap.

114. This is a completely adorable secret... despite the fact that some of those traits uh. Really get America and everyone around him into trouble sometimes. >_____> FOR YOU, THOUGH. KEEP ON BEING AWESOME. ♥♥

122. ONE OF MY ENTIRELY UNIRONIC OTPS! :DDDDDD They need to get more love, seriously.

128. If they're upset by it, though, what right do you have to order them to stop complaining that it sucks? It does suck -- saying so won't change anything, and hell, I'm far from climbing on the bandwagon saying "THE CASTING WAS RACIST THEREFORE THERE IS NO WAY EVER THAT IT COULD EVER BE ANYTHING LIKE A GOOD MOVIE." I'm hoping that, despite the casting idiocy, the acting and story will still be cool. But it is incredibly aggravating, and if people want to express their opinions, you don't get to say "BUT IT WON'T CHANGE ANYTHING SO SHUT UP." For most people, that's probably not the point.

129. This. Get the hell over it... ha, well, I was going to say "FMA manga elitists," but THIS CAN AND SHOULD APPLY TO PRETTY MUCH EVERY ELITIST EVER.

132. ... a fictional version of the devil written by someone using their imagination to change the character from being the Biblical devil into someone deeper, more likeable, and more human does not suddenly equal RELIGIOUS REALITY okay. Please. This is. Just getting sad. The amount of religious people who take any fiction or imagination using religious elements as sudden!new!gospel! is really starting to scare me.

134. If they judge you, or want to hit you, then they're asses and don't deserve your time. And yeah, you're being an ass when you judge other people and don't even really know what you're talking about yet -- but you seriously want to learn, which is awesome. If it's ever in, maybe try your local library?

137. Well, since Cartman is a total asshole and I can really only like him ironically, and since the episodes themselves poke fun of the Stan/Kyle thing (the whole GAY PARENTING episode with the egg when they started going on like a married couple? yeah), I can say that if I slashed South Park I would lean WAY more towards the latter pairing than the former, sorry to say.

139. .......... holy shit.

145. ... enjoying yourself reading comic books and watching TV shows? It's not really an OMG SHAME thing.

148. Oh fucking hell yes I love this movie with a burning, burning love.

150. It's not better, but it can be a lot more interesting? I don't think anyone who likes creepy!pairings or unhealthy!pairings really thinks it would be just great for real life. But psychologically fucked-up-ness and drama is just... interesting. There's nothing weird about that.

152. And yet another person realizes that fiction =/= reality and that shipping incest pairings doesn't mean you want to go around ripping the clothes off of your own siblings. Hooray.

not!secret #4: ... I choked on my water and my god I love this secret so much. XDDDDD YOU WIN OP.

[identity profile] vivalanaomi.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
101. If fandom was marriage then I'm totally fucked.

137. I see Cartman/Kyle on the show. This is not a good thing, it makes me concerned. Cartman would be a mean boyfriend.

119. YESSSSS. Especially Jensen. Holy crap, the things I'd do to the man.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
101) Eh, you know, sometimes you can have negative memories associated with something you love to the point where you just don't want to deal with it anymore. Ultimately, it's just entertainment, and nearly all of it dates itself eventually anyway. And even if you never enjoy it again, there's going to be another show out there to take your attention, so, no real loss.

Still, it's best to know when to walk away from fandom before it totally poisons you. I know some people just don't believe it, but ships don't have to be defended, no one needs to be convinced to think something other than what they do and it really honestly doesn't matter what some other person over the internet likes or dislikes. As soon as it stops being fun, it's time to move on.

104) I'm in the same boat. I've read worse. I honestly don't see much different between Twilight and your standard cookie cutter Romance.

126) The Doctor has always had a god complex. It's perhaps somewhat earned. And he's not one of those all good and loving gods either. He's one of the most entitled, control-freakish, possessive-yet-stand-offish characters ever out there. Lord help you if you ever disagree with him.

128) See 101 -- that'd be the fandom I flirted with for a while before deciding that it just wasn't fun.

129) The anime had many good points. The characters were poignant, emotive, entrancing, attractive and came with so much potential. However the plot flat out didn't work. The ultimate revelation that the humunculi were trying to make people make the philosopher's stone in order to keep them from doing so makes no rational sense. Scar dragging Kimbley to a rooftop using only his teeth while he bleeds copiously from both severed arms makes no sense. Ed took a year to use his automail arm and leg, Archer took less than a month to perfectly use half his body including his head. The philosopher's stone was so weak as to be essentially useless. Characters did things because they were convenient, not because they furthered their own agendas, the story flat out contradicted its premise in several places. I have high hopes that the new Anime will have the strong characterization of the original Anime, with the addition of the tight, sensible story line of the manga.

TL;DR: People are going to have opinions, some of them won't agree with yours.

153) Maybe when gays are fully accepted in society with the same rights as everyone else I'd consider wanting to be one. For now I'm content with my own sexual orientation, since I still get man-on-me action, and there are a lot more heterosexual men out there than gays.

[identity profile] vivalanaomi.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
126. I don't mind if the Doctor has a god-complex, though I do mind when the show seems to buy into it. That's why I like my Donna, who calls him on it.

108. Aw! That's cool. :)

118. I have no idea what fandom that is, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry and I hope she keeps inspiring you.<3

134. DON'T SPEND A DAMN MINUTE ON THAT WORTHLESS EXCUSE FOR A BOOK ...*ahem* I mean, I guess if you're interested in a train-wreck of absurd "literature" you could pick up a copy at the local library (where all the kindly but elderly ladies at the desk will most likely be unaware of the controversy surrounding one Edward Cullen, and you won't actually have to financially contribute to Meyer's depressingly full and pro-Proposition 8 bank account).
Also, kudos on the MS apple. :D
