125. I find it hard to enjoy Hetalia because of the historical baggage, but I absolutely don't judge anyone who feels differently. But I so think some Hetalia fans (not all, not most) can get rather defensive when someone expresses feelings like this, which is unfortunate. I find the "BAWW CRY MOAR" is more often directed at people who feel like I do, rather than Hetalia fans, which is why I haven't commented on Hetalia until now (and why I probably won't do it again, because OMG I JUST wanked about the Gosselins, people. THE GOSSELINS).

Yes, making sweeping generalizations about a fandom is wrong-headed, but so is the attitude that people who are critical of Hetalia's canon are humorless and just don't understand satire.

I could not give two shits about your fandom if I tried. I looked at it. I couldn't get into it. As far as that goes, end story.

But.

I am so. So. SO. Sick of seeing people's experiences being diminished by claiming that they have something to do with "political correctness." It's dismissive and obtuse. People do not dislike it because it's "politically incorrect." They do not get offended because they're trying to be "politically correct." They are offended by something they personally find, for whatever reason, offensive. Agree with them, disagree with them, argue with them, I don't care. But please don't belittle other people's experiences as something so shallow.

I swear, I would be the happiest person in the whole world if the term "politically correct" spontaneous disappeared from both vocabulary and consciousness.

I tear up just about every time I see the American Express card commercial with him on it. I think there are 3 of them, total, that have him in them, and they all bring a tear to my eye, especially where he's like HI! I'm Jim Hensen and I invented the Muppets!

I am not even kidding, my eyes just welled up TYPING THAT. Just. What a loss. Jim Hensen is seriously the only celebrity death I've ever mourned. I was pretty young when he died, so in a way that makes sense, and I feel like I lost a really lovely part of my childhood when he died. The films are still there, but knowing that he's not... it's truly sad.
