I'm not sure she means the series so much as the fandom? For either one, I'd personally say the educational value. Hetalia has led me to Wiki history, politics, foreign relations, etc out of interested generated by the stories in the comics and the fancomics and fanworks covering topics the canon doesn't. Sure, it has tons of fan fodder, but so do a lot of things that don't even teach you anything.

To be honest, I think that’s a big part of Hetalia. All of the countries have some sort of assholerly or racism to them, but they still manage to get along well enough at the end of the day, or at least in the sides stories. It’s something of a hopeful message, I think. ^_^

Re: 119 - that's not a manip, believe it or not ;-) That is a pic from the first Chicago Creation Con in Nov. 07 when they got those special coins from the marine (which unfortunately turned out to be fake, as was the marine, but that's a whole other story; not a good one because the guy is a con man and douche for doing that...grrr). Anyway, they are looking at one of the coins and that is how they were standing. I was at the con.

114 - I would care if fandom in its entirety (to say nothing of the manga itself) cared about anything else than Yoite and Yoite/Miharu. But I stopped giving a damn since the manga became exclusively a Yoite/Miharu love story and fandom forgot about everything else as well.

Same here. Exactly the same. I started watching House over two years ago when my mum was dying of cancer and although I felt morbid for being so into a medical series like this I just needed those characters and although I am aware that they are just fictional I wish House had been real to save my mother, too.

I'm so sorry about your mother. When my mother was diagnosed with breast and uterine cancer three years ago, we started watching House together when I'd stay with her while she had chemo -- we found House comforting in a weird way, as well. Making the medical setting familiar, letting us see doctors as frail and sometimes goofy people who still (even House) make their cases the center of their lives...that just helped somehow.
