IA. I feel like even very trope-y fic feels like it's just kinda going through the motions. I think the theory that everyone is just doing shitty bc 2020 is a good one, to be honest.

I don't think the existence of explicit sex scenes has much to do with it, I think people were just better at acting and directing that kind of chemistry. There are still movies / shows with no explicit sex scenes that get made.

(And also we remember the best examples of old stuff but not the mediocre examples, I always try to keep that in mind)

For me the series ends at the end of season 6 with the ships heading towards Westeros. There are parts of those seasons I don't like, but overall they are decent whereas seasons 7 and 8 are overall bad with the occasional good moments.

I don't much like the Shining either. To me we don't get the progression of a character being driven to evil by the hotel because he starts out as not very nice to begin with. So that misses the whole arc of the story. I'm a big fan of the original Steven King story.

I agree but I also think it would involve such a radical change to Gatsby's character that he wouldn't be the same Gatsby.

I usually have that problem. I had a real hard time with Supernatural with buying into a demon possessing different people and therefore being played by different actors still being the same character. Sometimes I just couldn't see them as the same.

But for some reason I don't have that issue with Stargate. Maybe its because while the two O'Neil's do look very different, the Jacksons look very alike. And honestly, the movie, in my opinion, is just so good. I guess I just think of it as Jack's hair went white from dealing during his continued recovery from the death of his son post-movie. For some reason I can believe them being the same universe.
