Tbh, I stay for the Mint Royale fic.
All of the recent bad!fic (except The Miseducation Of Howard Moon, that one just gets an exception...just because) has made me stop checking so frequently but I just can't bring myself to leave.

The fandom classics still keep me loyal but I know how you feel :(

How refreshingly realistic of you!!!!! Most fans would go on and on about how they'd fix things or get cozy with the characters....

I've always suspected that if, for example, I suddenly found myself in 4th Series "Blake's Seven", instead of saving the day and snogging Avon/Vila/Tarrant, I'd immediately curl up in foetal position and spend the entire episode moaning, 'We're all gonna die, we're all gonna die, we're all gonna die....'

May I say something about this (and hope you read it and not misinterpret)? I am a Russia/Lithuania fan (not a shipper, just fascinated by the dynamics of the relationship.) Before 1990 I didn't know Lithuania even existed (not ignorant, just lived in the Middle East where your last concern was other people's problems.) I didn't really bother to learn about the country until Hetalia. Lithuania's story immediately grabbed me. Because of Hetalia I went online and read about the country. I learned so many things about it, like the January uprising, Adam Mickiewicz and his poems, Lukša and the Forest Brothers, the meanings of 'ponas' and 'Lietuva', the Polish/Lithuanian Commonwealth, even the fact that there is a Soviet theme park in Lithuania. I cried while reading some of the history and cheered at the happy ending, at the fact that its people finally gained their independence. All because of this little character in Hetalia and his scars.

Now here is the flip side: if there was no Hetalia I would have been ignorant of Lithuania's history, its struggle and its heroes. In a conversation amongst ignorant people I would have been one of them instead of being able to educate them using the knowledge I have now.

I let you be the judge. In this particular case did Hetalia harm or help the reputation of your country?

tl;dr: I didn't know anything about Lithuania until Hetalia. Because of it I educated myself about the country's history and now I admire it for its struggles and its triumph.
