Do people really hate Twilight so much that it transfers to the music on the soundtrack? o_o A good band is a good band. I'm not a fan of Twilight, but Muse is great, and I'm actually hoping the soundtrack will garner Mute Math some popularity.

I like Kimeru. I like his music. I think he did a decent Fuji when he wasn't just standing there on stage singing. Which he did. A lot. And his singing wasn't always perfect. GASP! I like Aiba. He's an excellent dancer and I think he did a decent Fuji as well. Yuuta can sing better than Aiba and he's not as good a dancer, but I still think he was a decent Fuji, too. They all bring different aspect of Fuji's personality to light. I like them all. This whole "omfg first gen cast is the best and everyone else sucks and you suck for liking them" thing is just lame. It really is. People like what the like and if it's different from what you like? Deal or ignore it.

137 - Are there ANY fans of this show who understand the concept of someone loving more than one person at once? Any of them? Anywhere? Or did everyone watch a totally different show than I did?

Reasons I hate Gwen have a LOT more to do with the fact that she annoys the fuck out of me and that Rhys deserves someone a lot better than her. I'd sit through a "Gwen and Jack hook up" story arc and love it to death if it included a good scene with Rhys finding out and leaving her.

But everyone knows it's impossible to hate female characters without being a) sexist or b) an angry, bitter slash fan, right? Nobody can just NOT LIKE THEM. 9.9

It's the J/Iers who tend to throw down the twu-wuv gauntlet and deny Jack's love for the Doctor and his clear-cut longing/sexual desire for Gwen, as well as the subtext with Owen (and all the flirting with everyone and everything as soon as he gets clear of Mr. Lord High Whiney-butt.)

I still find the "Poor Rhys" claim highly spurious and suggest that if it were the other way and PC Ianto Jones had discovered Torchwood where Jack had an ambiguously flirty relationship with his sexy secretary Gwen and Ianto HAD to cheat on his partner (pick a gender) for the relationship with Jack to happen, the FANDOM WOULD BE ALL OVER IT!

135) Apples and oranges. Apples and oranges. I love both shows, but they aren't remotely the same in their appeal. One is silly and sexy with a side of horror, the other is very prudish and earnest with a side of whimsy. Both have serious, head-bang worthy flaws, but it's a whole lot easier to overlook them if you enjoy the rest of what's being offered.

155) And this would be a great reason to stop. It can be addictive to rip into something, but it's also kind of depressing. At the end of the day, you'd probably rather be known for your own writing rather than hers, and you'd probably rather feel good about what you've done rather than amused by what someone else has done. You got to resource your time and mental energy.

137. Disclaimer: I am a Jack/Ianto fan. But that is NOT why I have a problem with Jack/Gwen! My main problem with them is that it seems completely forced, and a major factor in the form of another person. No, not Ianto for Jack (and anyway, I'm more of a Jack/Ten shipper than I am of a Jack/Ianto shipper!) - Rhys, for Gwen. Rhys loves, needs, and would do anything for Gwen. Jack would probably do a lot for her, probably needs her for a bit of a humanising influence and probably does love her (but then, Jack probably loves everyone), but he's clearly NOT RHYS. And Gwen chose Rhys over Jack. You can't ignore that - even if you can see UST, even if you think they'd be cute together - GWEN CHOSE RHYS.

That said, the more batshit (and by that, I mean the more vocal) Jack/Ianto shippers scare me a bit, and I can't stand Gwen bashing.

...Incidentally, I do love that the picture you used to demonstrate Jack and Gwen's TWU WUV features a Nostrovite about to eat her face off XD

I'm sure there is a middle ground, but I'm not sure fandom infused LJ is the place to find it. Mostly I think if people made an effort to include and develop all the characters they liked, without thinking about what would get the most reviews we'd see a slightly more even and positive representation of all characters, but again the problem is it's us women writing what we want to write and reviewing what we want to read. And girls, what's my weakness? Men!

It's like the WMBA. I like the idea of women getting paid similar to men, but that dosen't mean I'm going to start watching basketball to make it happen. If that makes me a bad feminist, then I don't want to be a feminist because they're crazy people who want to make me watch basketball.

I know that the cause women's advancement has been around forever, even in fandom (and out! Oh how I love the right to vote (now I can complain!)) but in fandom we seem to have flashes of really intense feelings over a topic (like after prop 8, or censorship after strikethrough07) that then returns to the shelf. But these topics are rarely if ever handled well (at least, from my limited view point)

Some fandoms, like SPN (duh, it's constant) and comicbooks (Women in Refrigerators anyone?), feel it a bit more, but sexism is not usually one of the huge topics in an average post.

The real problem with using fandom for a movement, as I see it, is that we're all to similar. There is no 'them' in fandom, we're all fans. Fans of different things/pairings/people, but it's an 'us.' Even when we disagree, there's no one who is really able to control any other group (attack and intimidate yes, but no real control is ever given) So the only ones to blame are ourselves, and that sort of thing can ends in self righteous 'I'm different' proclamations and attacks on other people.

Again, it's like I'm just here to watch Dick and Roy make out, if you want to read about Steph or Mia that's cool. If you want to belittle me for not reading/caring about Steph or Mia enough, that's not cool. (Bat-clan/Arrow-clan, because I could't think of another SGA reference. Am a bad fan, but in my defence I dropped out after Carson died, even though I hated him. I kind of hate a lot of characters.)

Better example here is Kara Thrace. For a while she was amazing! I loved her. But I never like fic of her, because I soon realized liked her more as an idea of a kick ass chick pilot. Eventually I left, (I do that a lot...) and a friend told me off for not supporting the idea that was BSG (more the idea of dark-and-gritty scifi then the idea of strong women, but still) and my response was "don't tell me what I should like as a scifi fan!" and my response to this sort of movement would be/will be "don't tell me what I should like as a woman!"

So, yeah. Once more, with bells on: Please don't make my fun political. Please?

I think that if there Jack/Ianto fans, there have to be Jack/Gwen fans. I don't hate on Gwen, she has her moments of being annoying but so doesn't Ianto. As for this whole ship thing. The only reason I don't ship Jack/Gwen is because then Rhys wouldn't be on the show anymore and I love Rhys. Okay and I love Rhys/Gwen. They are so far the only het couple I ship. He's a nice guy, he can take on things by himself. If Gwen got with Jack we'd lose that normal, somewhat stable relationship (I refuse to accept all that Owen and Gwen bullshit).

But hey, be proud of shipping whoever you want.

I realize that a lot of Western Gackt fans are immature 15 year-old yaoi fantards and they are frustrating and annoying but they AREN'T going to shell out like $80 USD + S&H for a piece of software that not only can they not understand but that they probably can't even use.

Gakupo's target audience is the niconico dorks and it will be a long time before he is half as popular or well-known as Hatsune Miku or the twins.

Quite a lot of people complaining are doing so because THEY aren't white, this was a prime opportunity to make the Eleventh Doctor non-white, and it was missed. Should THEY not get to complain that an iconic character who can change everything about his appearance - except, apparently, his skin - is white yet again? Is there a statue of limitations here?

I got into this show during series 3. Complaining about Tennant's casting then would have been pretty stupid I think, as his Doctor was my introduction to this show.

But yes, I think this show has race issues, and a good time to address them more fully was missed. I'm perfectly willing to give Matt Smith a chance, since the decision has been made, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend it was necessarily the BEST decision.
