Okay, I don't even know where to begin with the Wrong.

Fact is, most people who have a genuine interest in a foreign language were, at least in the beginning, interested because of an aesthetic, artistic, or cultural interest in that language. You see this with anime fans learning Japanese, Mozart fanatics learning High German, people who were blown away by Alamut learning Slovenian...even devoutly religious people learning the language/s of their holy texts is comparable in a way. I for one would love to learn (among other languages) Japanese, German, and Welsh, because I find the languages aesthetically pleasing and their artistic canons fascinating, and I studied Greek out of a desire to gain a greater understanding of Homer, Sappho, Hesiod, the Gospels, and other writing of such kind. What's wrong with that?

I'd be interested to know what you think a good reason for learning a language is. Pragmatic concerns, like learning Chinese for business or Spanish if you live in a southern border state? An on-the-record 'screw you' of some kind, like the child of a fanatically anti-Muslim Hindu learning Arabic? What? Any reason for learning a language is a good reason as long as you're dedicated to it and don't completely suck.

While Ianto/Jack is my pairing of choice (I'm also quite fond of Owen/Ianto, and Andy/Rhys), but I'm not about to bash people who like other pairings, although I will admit that I really do not understand Gwen/Jack. It seems so forced. I mean I like Gwen some days and then others I don't like her at all. Her character is inconsistent, very touch and go, and that's the only reason why I don't like her paired with anyone outside of Rhys.

Out of all the things I could say about this, I'll choose this: Do you really think that A, people judge him for the pain, not because, oh I dunno, he's a total bastard? And B, anything, be it pain or something else, could give anyone anything even approaching a free pass for that kind of behavior? Difficult as it may be, it's not an excuse and really doesn't justify anything.

Sorry; things like this just read as so melodramatic and grind my nerves. House is an asshole, period. Not "crabby", but a total asshole. Please, spare me the "You're so insensitive; you just don't understand! D:" rants. >.>

I agree.

My dad has had chronic pain syndrome due to a neck injury in the 1970s and a botched surgery attempt following that. It was a situation pretty similar to House's but that didn't turn my dad into an annoying, ronri asshole (and I love House, for the record, but he IS a total jerk). My dad isn't always fun to be around (I remembered why I moved out of the house when I'd visit for more than a couple weeks at a time) because his frequent migraines made him kind of whiny, but he frequently apologized for his selfish moments.

House is an asshole. He's a lovable, entertaining asshole but his chronic pain isn't an excuse for that.

Honestly, at least they want to learn a new language, unlike so many people today. Who cares what it's originally for? I, for one, think it's awesome to be able to understand something in its original tongue. That's why I want to be able to read Spanish; there's some great literature that I'd understand better by being a speaker than by getting a translation, if it even has a printed translation. Does that make me wrong?

I think YOU don't deserve any respect. And, honestly, calling them "Euro-weaboos"? One, that shows how small and simple minded you are. Two, in what way are they "weaboos"? It's not that they think those culturs are in any way superior, they just want to watch an opera in it's intended language and be able to understand. Can't see anything wrong with that.

157. I used to feel the exact same way (still do sometimes). I came across QAF soon after I moved away from home, fell out with most of my old friends, and was basically completely alone in a new school, job, environment, home, etc. For a long time, the guys and gals of QAF were the only people I could relate to. No matter what, Emmett and Brian would never fail me, and that was okay. xD

After a while, I found two amazing friends that I dragged into the fandom with me, and I love them dearly. Maybe you'll find that too, but if not, you've always us crazies in the fandom (<3<3), not to mention the gang of Liberty Avenue. ;D
