If you aren't comfortable showing off your physical form, why not go for a creative, interesting costume that doesn't show your body at all? If you are willing to think outside the box and do a little crafting, I say for certain there are AMAZING costume possibilities for you :) Four friends and I once built a 9' long, 6' tall, 4' wide Catbus from Totoro, for example. It got a lot of props, despite not being slutty or sexy at all!

That's what I did (as another, hmmm... 'large' cosplayer) - I built a full-body Totoro costume, and I got a helluva lot of hugs and pictures and love, even though it wasn't tight or revealing. :D

135) Have you been living under a rock for the past couple of years? The first has been a meme for a long time and is a way of stressing how stupid/obvious/whatever something is. My friends used to think it was stupid when I said stuff like "bad food is bad", but they soon caught on and do it themselves. XD And the second is a person's way of saying "hey this is a long block of text, let's put in an abridged version for the people that don't want to read a lot".

I've got the exact same problem, but I've been getting around it by doing full-body costumes (like Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro), or costumes that I can tailor to not look so horrible on a fat girl (Organization XIII coats from Kingdom hearts, Junpei the ninja from Megatokyo). It's been working out pretty well for me so far, so have no fear! You too can cosplay. :D

(I think the only rule is - don't try any overtight or over-exposing costumes, the kind that only anorexic or incredibly gentically lucky people can pull off.)

Thank you for the advice; that's certainly true! :)

I think my main deal was that all of my favorite anime tend to only have tiny characters, so I was feeling discouraged. This post has given me a lot of great ideas about new anime to get into, so I'm really excited to branch out. <3 I admittedly don't have very many favorites when compared to much of the rest of the con-going, anime-loving public.

I feel the same way! And yet I'm still here, in this community... reading secrets. But no, I really do feel this way too. Lately, I've been finding myself rolling my eyes at almost all the fanfiction I read, or scoffing at the way people gush over the latest update of ___, etc. etc. I can't help but wonder - what's the point? It all feels so... useless. Then I feel obligated to update the fic I started a year ago (only because I hate to leave things unfinished) but I just can't bring myself to care about it anymore. So, yeah. How are you "coping"? Are you just moving on? Personally, I'm ready to let go of fandom altogether. (I've been in it for 10+ years, too.)
