No, you're not. I don't really care about smut about my favourite characters (because I love them for other reasons than slash or romance). I even prefer my OTP to be platonic.

(Geez, FINALLY I can post a comment before there are 15 pages filled with them)

138 - Morgana/Gwen FTW!

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
101. It won't. Everyone loves the Joker. Just don't, like, wax poetic or read your poetry or whatever.

110. ... Why on earth is that the first image result?

111. I'm sorry. Please don't feel like you have to be afraid and be scared just to not let your partner down - if you just force yourself it's not going to get better. Is it really scarier to talk about it than it is to just shut up and go through with it...?

Worry about yourself, don't try to please other people at your own expense.

129. I hate people who hate het. Especially if they're heterosexual. I throw that right in the bin with "political lesbians."

150. I agree.

173. Aww, I'm sorry.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-25 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
129. Agreed. What really threw me for a loop once was when a 'lesbian' I know online told me that she could only get off on yaoi. I mean, in theory, I guess...uh...

I can't judge? But that must make things complicated in the bedroom.

111 -- You don't owe anyone sex. If this man truly loves you, then you do owe him the truth, even if it takes a while to find the courage to tell it. If he doesn't love you enough to help you work through your issues, and put off sex until you do, then you shouldn't be having sex with him. Your body belongs to no one but yourself. Own it, and take back what that abusive scum took from you. You're strong enough to do that.

If he doesn't love you enough to help you work through your issues, and put off sex until you do

Not that I want to play devil's advocate on purpose, but what if the OP doesn't get over it even if their partner still loves them?

If the movie ever gets made, a fandom will probably manifest from it.

Re: 119

(Anonymous) 2009-01-25 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I absolutely hated the book because of the way it was written. The premise was good though, so I hope to god or lucifer that it gets made.

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
107. I don't think I will ever quite get why so much of Avatar fandom is totally okay with a fourteen-year-old having a romance, but not a twelve-year-old. They're both kids. Is it just because of the way they're drawn? Aang does look more child-like in his design than Katara, but to me they both act too young for me to think of them as an adult romance (or even a teenage one like Mai and Zuko).

108. What I completely fail to get is why people like you come to [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets. This place is the mecca of pathetic, obsessed fans.

130. Here's a tip: if you don't want to get called a homophobe, stop being so freaked out that some people like making all their favorite characters gay. I don't like it either, but 90% of the people I see complaining about "omg they made everyone gay! It's so terrifying!" totally ping my "still kind of uncomfortable around the gay" radar. Which isn't necessarily the same thing as "homophobic," but it's on the same spectrum.

135. They're memes. This is really all you need to know. Fandom loev memes. (That's also a meme.)

141. I think that the vast majority of fandom interest in general for Lyle has its roots in "fandom wanted Neil to turn out that way." Lyle is a conveniently less-screwed-up blank slate for them to project all that stuff onto. It's a neat trick by Sunrise.

177. I'm with you. I have so much trouble telling most celebrities apart, especially when they have the same hair color.

107 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually part of why I got out of the pairing, but Katara in a relationship works for me a lot more than Aang. (Also, at the end of the show, she's 15 and Aang's 13. 13 still really feels too young to me, though.) She's still child-like sometimes, when she has a chance to be, but she's had to become a mini-adult, essentially. Aang, despite the pressure, really hasn't, and is a lot less emotionally mature than she is, at least in my opinion. Still, as I said, I'd prefer no romance at all.

101: You know your manager better then I do, but lot's of people are Joker fans. I wouldn't worry about it.

105: I love my siblings but damn I'd have said yes too. Hey maybe being a goblin is fun. XD

109: I never considered this. It's kinda cute.

110: Well what's the pairing?

111: You're not asexual you're tramuatized and I hope your therapist and new love can help you through it. In the meantime I'm glad you've found something to help you cope. Rorschach love.

115: Well I don't know if I agree OP but you're secret definitely made me laugh.

116: I love Adam West too. How did Burt Ward destroy Dick Grayson forever?

120: Agreed a million times over OP. Fandom should be about liking things not complaining about people liking things.

121: Tell your friends how much they mean to you. I'd bet they'd appreciate it. I know I would.

122: Not that it probably helps much but it is possibly to love a character in a book you hate.

125: Not my OTP but I definitely ship is 6x9 FTW!

127: *debates with self...decides not to this time*

129: Draco/Hermione is actually relatively popular OP. It's one of my ships.

135: The first is a LOLCats reference (and one I've picked up in my RL speech dear God) and the other is because people don't want to read a long secret. So people put a tl:dr there so they can still get their message across.

136: Robots dying always makes me cry.

149: *snerK* OMG I can see it! And it's glorious!

161: Are you snarky and funny?

167: Yeah Yugioh is like that.

169: Who the hell is Leonard Nimox?? Oh and that show is awesome, just make me love the actor more. XD Sorry it ruined it for you though.

174: That's why you organize your friends list man.

177: LOL! I understand OP and don't worry, nobody cares about Batman's love interest anyway. Unless it's Catwoman.

143. (Ah, a chance to use this old icon of mine...) Mm, but Dick and Kory sleeping together isn't new either. It's been an on-and-off thing in the comics since the '80s. But then again, my brief time in the animated!Teen Titans fandom a few years back has shown that few people there really even give a damn about the old comics either, despite so many of the show's storylines coming from it... [/slight bitterness]

150. I'm much the same way. Believe me, you're not alone.

153. Nono, you're not alone either. I have absolutely no desire to see Gurren Lagann whatsoever, largely because everyone and their dog WON'T EFFIN' SHUT UP about it, and it's only bred resentment towards it and its rabid fans. The more you people try to push it on me, the more I don't want to see it, got it?

159. I've always adored Nemo. It's one of those songs I could listen to for hours on end because I too find it very uplifting, and the music video is also gorgeous. Then again, I happened to discover Nightwish myself during a deep period of depression a few years before that and found their music helpful in getting through it, so it's easy for me to find solace in just about anything they do, old or new.

159 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-25 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't hear Nemo until I was literally probably at my worst with my depression in years. I think I did a double take, played it again, and on the third time I cried a very hard long cry. One of those, "right song, right time" sort of moments. I'm feeling alot better now, and yeah, Nemo helps very, very much. I was like, "OMG someone else has been here, walked this path, and survived to tell of it?" It sounds so wierd.. but that was what I thought. It did pick up my spirits a little, definately!

I love the video.

Same here... I don't care who is singing, as long as it's THEM (the four guys-- Tuomas, Marco, Emppu, and Jukka).

114

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Shame Xam'd is pretty mediocre on the whole:

-The setting is shoddily put together in terms of visual design. Buildings, clothing, geography and the even the overall color palette give nothing specially unique or idiosyncratic to the story. It lacks personality.

-Flowery prose and empty metaphors. People in real life don't talk every single one of them with the same ham-fisted language and abuse of relevant but rather from-the-left-field language tricks. It's fine when a character uses such a language as it gives him or her a unique personality, but when every single character uses the same kind of expressions and body language there is not a lot of room for individualism.

-The protagonists lack of action through the entire first half makes this second half rather unsatisfying. It's impossible to feel the meaning behind Ishu's rebellion when whatever medium she had to execute it in episode 23 she had since episode 1.

-The idea of "problems inherent to human communication" that was supposed to tie-up the entire narrative and give the actions some kind of emotional meaning comes across as mere coat-painting.

-Lack of proper build-up. Events that should change our perception of the entire narrative come across as just there rather than as properly climatic.

So you're probably just watching bad shows.

Relax. It's a spin off series from the kink meme. I doubt anyone's going to take something written for fun for canon, characterization and events considered.

OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering how little fanwork we've got got in the fandom, especially outside the kinkmeme, AND how people are reacting to it (with unending praises and 'lets get together and write more!!'), it makes me worry.

I would rather have people respond that way to IC things.

And from my experience in other fandoms, while people might not take fics as canon, they certainly take them as "the best way to write the character".

Why should your dislike of something be a secret? This is not even an argument, this is you saying you don't like something... which makes for empty arguments and opinionated wank.
