161. The predominant target of fanservice within a given work will always be, by the very nature of fanservice, the intended target market. If your work contains a metric ton of fanservice for pedophiles, what does that say about who it's intended for?

I haven't actually read it, so I can't assess what else it has to offer in terms of literary value...I'm just saying, claiming that it's not aimed at pedos and then following that up with an admission that there's a ton of fanservice aimed at them seems disingenuous.

Sorry, I realize how that might have sounded like. I should have said that people other than pedophiles could enjoy it if they weren't so squicked by the initial idea of pedo fanservice. 178. Yeah, but Tamora Pierce didn't make a post on how to write Characters of Color. She also wisely didn't comment on the blow-up at all. Does her writing have race issues? Sure. But no one's mentioning it because she wasn't part of the group of people saying "no, of COURSE we don't have race issues" while consistently insulting fen of color.

175: While I agree that if someone says they dislike slash, there are cases where people get their backs up and immediately assume them to be a gay-bashing homophobes, I've seen a lot of (maybe even more, especially in what you might consider to be a more...mature(?) side of fandom) situations where people are attacked for disliking het as well. You know, the whole 'you hate your own gender' 'you only like slash for the hot boys' 'you hate vaginas!!!!1'

So from my experience, it goes both ways ^^;
