Oh god I just had a flash back to 9th grade literature class.

Ung, but I really enjoyed that book as well and pretty much had a similar experience with my class.

But I enjoyed that book a lot myself, so much so I went and bought my own copy afterward when we finished up class. :P

130. Exactly. .. especially now that there really isn't any village to go back to, huh. I feel so bad for these guys. :(
139. She's so incredibly annoying.
151. I kind of agree with you.

I used to see druggies as horribly declasse, but as I get older I lighten up about it and just see it as funny.

103. Eh, I came up with goofy mental narratives on my own to make studying more enjoyable in middle and high school when all our learning was geared towards swallowing and regurgitating facts for standardized tests. And it seems like a decent-sized portion of Hetalia fandom is in high school or thereabouts, so I guess I can understand people being surprised to enjoy history for once, as sad as that sounds. So, agreed, but trying to be optimistic about it. With any luck the ones who genuinely mean it when they say that will keep learning and make the jump from countries-as-people to the people IN said countries. That's where most of the fun is, after all.

(I will say that this fandom has made me do spontaneous research on a lot of things I otherwise might not have researched. Even for those of us who already loved history, having an excuse to regularly ramble on about it with other people online brings up the most interesting factoids sometimes.)

138. Oh god, yes. That's my primary objective with most of my heroes, but this more than anything else would be amazing. Best of luck, OP.

145. Me, too. &hearts It really is a wonderful book. Not everything school curriculum forces students to read is boring and stupid.

141. I still don't understand why people get so upset/angry about JE fandom. It's a bunch of gay guys dancing in stupid costumes to shallow pop music.

Y SO SRS?

Sit back and enjoy the gay and sparkles.

Re: 141

[identity profile] momentarily.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Because liking the wrong sparkly gay clearly causes the worlds problems. I mean, seriously, did you not know that? :|

Mm, yeah, I don't know. I don't know how anyone can be serious about JE, especially when most of the artists are hardly serious about themselves |D

I... can't... stop... listening.... to... Bootylicious....

103. It's called presentation and association. Most of us are exposed to history with dry facts and boring history teachers. Actually, if it wasn't Carmen Sandeigo, I wouldn't like history although I was always a A/A+ student in history from elementary to college due to my talent for memorization. Hetalia just reminded me how much I fell out of discovering other country's history, being absorbed in other subject, mostly Black History. Plus I like the idea of how history can affect one person who happens to be an personified avatar of a country. And I'm a sucker for history lulz.

Humans judge on presentation so much it affects our mindset on the subject until a more influencing factor comes along that might change our judgment. Like someone would hate Math so much but Sudoku might open the door to it. If I haven't been taught to think math problems as jigsaw puzzles by my aunt, I prolly wouldn't enjoy it in general. That's why I adored trigonometry (especially trig proofs) so much in high school~! Changing the perspective can make a world of difference and open a doors to something you never believe that you ever love.

Plus, I wish people stop assuming that the Nation-tans in Hetalia do everything, if anything they presented as high-ranking officers and historical figures shown up in the series multiple times. Damn.

108. ... Why are all of them hot? So different than the spreads I've seen of the manga....

109. I think it's ultra creative and cute... and possibly yummy. I know some fans in some of the fandoms I'm in do that and I envy them for it since I'm no wizard in the kitchen unless it's Thanksgiving dinner.

117. That's what I love about Tohru, despite the fandom's cry of Mary Sue, although I always thought her endless optimism was part of a mask though, to get over the pain of losing her mother and her insecurity. But I love she struggled and grew strong in small yet significant ways. It's just sad that the manga fell so flat on its face towards the end though.

126. One blowup we happened to only hear about and he's a primadonna? While his reaction was "WTF?", it's pretty understand why he might've done it. And people need to stop using the faulty justification "it's just a sci-fi movie!" doesn't mean no one can take the acting seriously. He probably need to dial the seriousness down. Plus, he's human, he's apt to blow up time to time. And he apologized (and say the PR made him say it is a moot point to peruse lately since we don't know what really happened there, only that we know there was some rant going on.

130. I hope the both of them die at other's hand. I don't mean that in a bad way either. Yeah, Sasuke forgiving everything is a sorta bullshit resolution. No doubt it'll happen.

132. That's why people have to make an e-gathering of femslash fans in a fandom. I still trying to write a Hitman Reborn femslash fic and give a boost to the yuri comm but I really don't have a clue where to start. orz.

133. I'm gonna try it anyway because I like Eliza Dushku.

139. I like Haruhi because of those traits mixed some of her good qualities.

141. ಠ_ಠ Dude, you need to chill out. Fandom isn't serious business like that.

143. Maybe it's me, but I thought that was going on from what I hear. Personally, I want to see it because I ADORE ADORE ADORE the character designs.

151. I hope you don't drink because that would make you hypocritical. And conservatives light it up too, y'know.

152. Nothing wrong with a puerile joke one in a while, OP. Although I myself snickered at the last line.

Like someone would hate Math so much but Sudoku might open the door to it.

Sudoku really has little to do with math. It's a logic puzzle.

150: LOL I'm right there with you and I still have an original 'Starsky sweater' that my mom hunted all over town to buy for me for my birthday. I don't have my mom anymore (at least not on this mortal level) but I still have my sweater and the fact that she loved me enough to find it for me.

160: LOL you mean it's not! Ok seriously, I love this show and I like all the characters. Thought I admit I was having a hard time warming up to Sophie at first, but I'm really beginning to like her. My favorite character is Elliot yes, but Parker is running a close second and heaven help me but I'm starting to image Parker/Dean Winchester pairings.

133. Well, it's got Eliza Dushku as the lead. I'm not sure "RULE" is an option, but I'll hope for your sake. :/

109 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-14 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's a random image to represent when my friends and I had a very merry unbirthday party, but I do have a teapot that's similar. It is pretty, isn't it? :)

134- People are always saying what a great heel she is because of the massive heat she gets. That's X-Pac heat, people. *sigh*

But I still can't criticize her too much, because I loved Eddie and I'm glad his family is being provided for.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-04 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Incredibly late reply but man, "X-Pac heat" is such a bullshit smark "I refuse to acknowledge that this heel I don't like has gotten over" justification, seriously.

108. Awww, I am too. I <3 this show so much, and I get sad when people tell me it sucks.

Dude. Or Dudette, whatever.

YOU. MADE MY WHOLE WEEK. BY POSTING A SIMS SECRET.

I don't know why, but really, you win, everything, have some internets, you deserve them. :D

And while I've never thought about Nervous and Pascal together (Have always been more of a Pleasentville person), this makes me want fic, or a story on the Exchange, I don't know, haven't been in the English speaking fandom for quite a while.

145. The Sparknote quiz was our quiz. Our teacher positively abhorred that book. I appreciated it, though I can totally relate to her rationale behind why that book was too much of a stretch.

TL;DR I LIKED THAT BOOK A-A-AND AM INCOHERENT IN TRYING TO COME UP WITH A RESPONSE

102. Aww, Annabeth; she was one of the few new characters I really liked. It's okay, I think she found new employment in a pie shop for a while. ;)

103. THIS

126. That speech bubble made me actually LOL

133. Same (well, actually, I was just mildly interested, but I'm not even that now)

138. I bet it wouldn't actually be that hard to do

145. I couldn't finish it when I tried to read it, but that was years and years ago (I think I was 12), so maybe I should try again

149. Same

160. I WISH I liked Leverage more; I agree with you, though

166. Huh?

151 - You don't have to like pot, or stoner humor, but at the very least please learn the "drugs are bad" tagline is juvenile and simplistic. Do some research, and then I might care about your opinion and whether or not you judge me... Because as far as I'm concerned, you're probably some youth-group-going Born Again prude who still proudly wears their DARE t-shirt from the 6th grade along with the abstinence pledge ring Daddy gave her.

111. You do realize his songs aren't autobiographical and don't necessarily reflect on his own personal beliefs, right? Much like how authors create characters for books, songwriters can do the same with thing with their songs.
