OH GOD YES.
QED.

[identity profile] fail-cookie.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
118: I really hate when people change the characters' personality to fit them into Seme/Uke roles. I mean, wtf? You don't have to whine and cry all the time to be a bottom in the bedroom department. Buuuut I don't really find porn hot or anything.

119: He does have personality :| I liked him before because he seemed responsible, which is something that the Skins cast needs now and again. But idk even though he was such a miserable sadsack last episode, I still like him, like how he's sick of being a doormat to Cook and how he was clowning around with JJ. I thought we saw a different side to him then. But in this fandom apparently not having an over the top personality like the rest of them=boring. And I don't even think he's hot.

But this doesn't have to be a secret, half the fandom agrees with you.

152: Kid's my favorite and I love Liz, but how can you hate Patty!? D:

161: Sorry I'm laughing to hard to even comment. That picture...pffhahasnort.

175: I'm neutral to the book itself but augh a group of my friends 'discovered' it and think it's an amazing piece of literature and that they're so edgy and cool for reading it. It's like, 'hey you could borrow this new book I'm reading, it's really good!' 'no, I'm reading Twilight' Like it's omgsospecial. Luckily they're not so serious business to stop being my friend over it though, that really sucks OP.

109

[identity profile] dizzy-whore.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, but, Ben's a Christian, or certainly believes in God anyway. And if the show was 'forcing religion' down the audience's throats, why would Locke have all the not-so-subtle allusions to Christ?

So, yeah, agree.

104

[identity profile] ms-erupt.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Haha. I didn't realize that until I was an adult either. My younger brother was like, "...You didn't know that?"

124

[identity profile] runawayblue.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
B-but where does this leave Kiv!? Haha jokes.

hahaha, trust me i ship ALL of it when it comes to those three, but for some reason i ship jorm/andy really fucking hard.

it's good to know that i am not alone in shipping TLI, though xD

Quit being so provincial and go do some research on homosexual relationships in Japan. The seme/uke dynamic wasn't invented by fic writers. Just because you don't act that way doesn't mean that no one does.

As for slash and yaoi being for fag hags, all I can say is yeah, it is. What's your point?

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I can not agree enough. If more people were excellent to each other like Bill and Ted, the world would be a far more righteous place.

102. Yeah, just a little.

110. Who be the fellow on the left?

115. And here I thought Zuko couldn't get any more adorable.

116. You may hate the fans, but I gotta say I love the fan who came up with that Xzibification of it. Any chance anyone has a link to the full one?

121. Interspecies slash at that age? Man, some of us started young.

122. Well then. I need to see this. I truly, truly do now.

138. Does that woman have no arms, or are they just not visible in that frame?

151. I think I need to know what this movie is about. Especially if those rockers fight crime or something as over the top and straight out silly. I do so hope it is a silly movie.

152. Personally, I kind of think you're supposed to.

155. As much wank as this may stir... preach it, person who I assume is a brother. Aang has ALWAYS been more mature than Zuko, in my eyes.

161. Yeeaah... a Devil-man ripoff? Really Kubo? Is that all? Me, I'd like an owl-form for him... or maybe a moth-form. Or some kind of insectoid or bird-form would have looked better than just a pair of devil-wings.

170. Dude, share the name of this fandom with us. Is it still Watchmen, or is it something older than Watchmen? I just really like that costumedesign, 's all.

174. Truth to be told, I think there's always going to be an argument. Because the way I see it, Kefka was the first Final Fantasy big bad to really have a personality. Zemus, Exdeath, Chaos, hell EVERYONE from the older games are basically just douches who want to end creation one way or another. Kefka was the first one with flair. With style. And to the fans who stuck with Final Fantasy and then saw what they think is his righteous thunder get stolen by Sephiroth, well... that's always gonna smart. I personally tend to stay away from those discussions because I can't judge Sephiroth: I grew up with Kefka and didn't even PLAY FF7 until Advent freaking Children came out! I can't in any way give an honest opinion about Sephiroth, my view is simply too tainted... withhowmuchofamomma'sboyheis SORRY. Sorry, I really am. I'll just... stop writing now.

They are silly. It is a silly movie, though there is no crime fighting. But it does have it heart wrenching and sob worthy moments.

103. “Trust in yourself and you can achieve anything!”

105. Um… Firefly is pretty old. It’s fairly likely that it would have been canceled by now. Or, knowing Whedon, Jayne would have been killed off anyway (in a SHOCKING! MOMENT!)

117. For me it wasn’t about Tim telling Steph off. It was that weird, “Don’t let me see you in that costume ever again.” If it was her Robin costume, it would make sense. But that Spoiler persona is hers, and not Tim’s, to take away. Tim is speaking with an authority he just doesn’t have.

Plus his hood is damn stupid looking.

133. I like Merlin, but I found that the way Gwen was sidelined, in the episode where UTHER KILLED HER FATHER, for Merlin’s dilemma and Morgana’s angst really problematic. I want to have more Gwen action, but I feel that this will likely come in the form of Gwen/Arthur hints, which will help turn parts of the fanbase against her.

Already I hear her being called a Mary Sue (admittedly on TWoP, which is always nuts), even though she usually gets less to do than Morgana.

BUT! So far the Merlin fandom has been really excited over Gwen and Morgana, so maybe this will be one of the better ones.

143. I don’t blame him for executing Felix at all. However, I think it’s bullshit that Sam (who’s actually one of my favorite characters) shot Gaeta’s leg off and suffered no repercussions (that I can see). Hell yes, Adama plays favorites.

168. Olbermann is obviously biased, but could you let me know in which ways he is prejudiced? I’m honestly curious, as I don’t have Fox News and MSNBC, so I rely on Youtube clips.

133

[identity profile] eviinsanemonkey.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
People call Gwen a Mary Sue? The hell?

I'm so glad I've never actually seen all this Gwen hate/exasperation I hear about...I'd rip someone a new something.

Personally, I'm always impressed the most when someone manages to write a character in a series who believably has a preferance to bottom or top without having to change their personalities for it ;)

It's pretty rare though ^^' And of course switching's good too.

127. I agree that there's a lot of yaoi/slash out there that conforms to seme/uke / femme/butch stereotypes and is nothing more than weepy heterosexual erotica novels rewritten with one of them looking like a dude. I don't even like women written that way. BUT, there are plenty of stories (some written by gay men! or lesbians, or transfolks of any orientation, and even some straight women, I'm sure) where the characters stay true to themselves and even a lot of stories where legit gay issues come up -- and it may not be perfect to everyone but it's certainly handled more realistically than the average yaoi you're going to find on Fanfiction.Net, so let's not judge everything on that. Every fandom has its pocket of annoying idiots, but that doesn't mean they represent the whole. WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO GET THIS.

129. What fic are you reading? All the ones I've read mention pubic hair. Granted, in those cases it's mostly femslash, but I recall the het I've read mentioning it too.

159. oh who doesn't.

168. Yeah no. Keith may be arrogant (lord knows he is), and prejudiced, but Bill O'Reilly is the hate-spewing bigot, and there's a difference.

Re:129

(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
129. Yeah, the het fics I read don't exactly skimp on the pubic hair.

109. Because the Biblical names, allegory, themes of forgiveness v. being (lol) lost, and HUGE STICK WITH SCRIPTURE ON IT weren't Christian?

OH I almost forgot about that whole thing with Charlie trying to baptize Aaron and Jesus Hurley Christ. That totally wasn't Christian in nature. Not at all. Though I do like the idea that once Ben does something the writers are trying to shove it down your throat. I guess the glazed ham industry is booming right about now.

155. I don't...see what that has to do with the male gender. What? (Also, since the show is about their parallel journeys of maturity, arguing over which one is "more mature" by the end strikes me as kind of silly. They're both as mature as they need to be for that moment in time, and will keep improving.)

173. I haven't seen old Who and I've seen less than two seasons of new Who. I know new Who has race and gender problems. But are they really that much worse than old Who's?

173. Yes and no. Old Who could be very, very fail at times with race. But New Who can be just as fail. Turn Left (2008) is almost as bad as Talons of Weng-Chiang (1977), and Mind of Evil (1971) treats race better than both. And given RTD's remarks on how 'hilarious' the racial stereotypes in Talons are, I'm not sure it's unintentional. As far as gender goes, you need to remember that Old Who spans decades. But while there was fail there (during JNT's reign especially), there was never the systematic removal of agency from female characters like you get with Rusty, and Old Who female characters were awesome straight from the beginning (see Barbara, who's the real hero of her seasons).

But it's not just that they both can be fail, it's that New Who is written in the early 21st century, and it still manages to fail more than parts of Old Who.

118. ... You mean, that's not a manip? Looks like one.

129. I take it you don't watch porn? :) I think fewer women are hairless than porn or fandom smut would like to believe.

142. I love this secret. Mostly because I too have been called handsome, and I think that's a fine thing to be. :D

147. That's my favorite movie EVER (the book is very good, too), and I would just about die if I stumbled upon a fandom full of shitty incest fic. DIE. Or want to kill. Either one.

It's a manip. I've seen all of torchwood, there is no scene like this. Plus, apparently Ianto's neck is broken in this picture.
