I could not agree more. The soundtrack is amazing, the concept is so original and has SO much potential, and it was all just WASTED on a team of people who refused to do it any way but their own despite many higher ups telling them what needed to be done.

It entertained me for what it was and, yes, Anthony Head was worth every scene he was in... but seriously, guys? Have the writers/director/producers ever heard of character development? How are we supposed to care if Nathan had been Poisoning Shilo if that came out of absolutely freaking nowhere as a cheap plot twist... how are we supposed to care about meg when the most background we have is a badly drawn comic strip with bad music playing behind it? How are we supposed to care about the big tragic finale when the writing is so bad for it?

I wanted to like it with all of my heart and I did enjoy it as a trashy but fun romp... but it had so much potential and it just kills me that it was wasted on that. It's such a cool story, an awesome cast, amazing music (the "non opera talk" music, that music was bad.)

Leaving myself anonymous because the fans for it are crazy defensive! I think it's fine to like it or even love it for what it is, but you have to face up that it's not the best written/directed/acted (Largo's children.... Shilo...) thing in the world and that it is pretty piece-mailed together as a train wreck.

127 - I love slash and yaoi. However, I'm totally aware that it's (almost always) written by women, for women, and it's completely unrealistic. It's fantasy, not reality, and I realize that.

I can totally understand you having a problem with yaoi and slash fans who don't realize that, however.

Furthermore, I'm totally interested in the real dynamics of gay relationships from a gay male perspective (and not just the sex part; everything).

146 - D: The first few episodes of Doctor Who that I ever saw were the last 5 of series 4. Even then, what happened to Donna made me really depressed. Now, after having seen all of her episodes, it totally breaks my heart.

Not the OP, but what does the fact that it's canon have to do with anything? The uke/seme stereotype exists in canon manga/anime as well as fanfiction/fanart/doujinshi. (I'm amused it's Kira/Setsuna only because . . . well, as far as I know, wasn't Setsuna in love with his sister? I'm not sure if he and Kira ever had a seme/uke thing.)

127: First of all, what's wrong with it "just being porn for faghags?" There's plenty of gay porn out there, most of which is ridiculously unrealistic (if you don't believe me, take a second to check out the Nifty Archive (http://www.nifty.org)). Men are allowed to get off on whatever ridiculous fantasies they want (including ones about two women having sex), so why shouldn't women?

Besides, not all slashers are straight women. There are tons of gay and bisexual women out there, along with a small number of gay and bisexual men. Where do we fit into all of this?

Would you apply this attitude to other sexual preferences? I'm a lesbian, does this mean that I can only read/write femslash? Are both of us forever banned from het, because we're queer?

And you may be a gay man, but you're not all gay men. Slashers are writing about two fictional characters who happen to share your sexual orientation. Stop over-identifying.

127. Newsflash: Yaoi is not directed toward gay men! It's not supposed to appeal to them. It's a fantasy for (predominately) straight women, and does not reflect real gay relationships or real men because it's mostly written by women to appeal to women (ie: with het glasses on). If straight men can have their stick thin women with gigantic boobs and personalities that in no way reflect real women predominate almost all male oriented media, then why can't women have some fun with a fantasy? oh wait!
