156: Fucking signed. I find this whole mind-set about whose privilege allows what bile to be directed towards them to be seriously problematic. How about equality? Isn't that what we were fighting for? You can't "make up for" oppression and privilege; it's marginalising and ridiculous to try.

Fight actual discrimination, no one gets prefatory treatment for any reason, and try to treat everyone with respect, including the majority. That's equality.

110 - You never know til you try. Anyway, so many writers in Naruto fandom are REALLY BAD. I say go for it; you can't be worse than them. 8D

128 - Beyonce is beautiful, and an example that you don't have to be a skinny little twig to be so. I'm a homosexual male, but I can still definitely admit that she's gorgeous.

138 - It really doesn't seem right.

143 - Wow, that's just disgusting. Wanting to starve yourself to look attractive is disgusting anyway. But I'm a fan of JtHM and let me tell you - I definitely, definitely judge you. You're going to end up in the hospital if you go down that road.

127: Y halo thar. It's refreshing to meet someone who ignores the pairing wars and ships everyone/everyone else. Everyone/everyone else is my OTInfinity XD

147: I'm so glad other people see the MASSIVE resemblance there. I was starting to feel slightly crazy.

156: I'm...kind of with you, I think (Damning by faint praise much XD) Sometimes I want to just disengage my brain and enjoy something without caring about the sociopolitical implications and suchlike.

140. I just finished reading the GN in anticipation for Friday, and I kinda feel the same way. It was a chore to keep reading when it started out, but it got better but the end was kinda...it kinda fell off. I feel no emotional connection to the end at all, and usually if the ending can movie me, I consider it a good book. The Watchmen didn't move me I'm sorry to say.

Laurie/Dr. Manhattan = OTP

[identity profile] trinity-destler.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
158: (Ignoring the incest factor:) See, that would have been a far more stereotypical, generic ship to happen. We all know Star Wars is your textbook perfect Hero's Journey, but to have Leia end up with the Rogue/Trickster and not the Hero is a twist on the -still current- expectations of a Western audience. It's an unexpected turn in the story (if I were to see Star Wars for the first time now I would definitely default Luke/Leia as a sure thing, because that's the way it ALWAYS goes in these kinds of stories) and ultimately way more interesting.

105 - "Alexander"

105. I wish. I was so upset when I first saw it and there wasn't one. Only damn reason I wanted to see that godforsaken movie, lol.
147. OH thank god, me too!! Everyone else I've talked to was like, lol nooooo.

164. Can I get some clarification on where copyright law ties in to the term "author"?
Also, does it have to be a book? Poetry, essays, etc. are no longer viable published forms. :(

140. Why does the length matter? It brought up moral questions that fans have debated and represented something uncommon in comics. It's cool that you didn't find it worth it at all, but it's deffinately got the depth that makes it deserving of its fame.

150. I'm on the same boat. It pisses me off when I can't get friends to watch Farscape or Stargate just because they're not over Firefly. It was a good show, but there are still others out there deserving (maybe even more so) of the attention. And for the record: I preferred Buffy.

154. mmm. Doppleganger pic...good choice for what's said in secret. Also...very true. You can't just gloss over parts of what makes a character who they are...

115. I had never thought of that, but somehow it makes perfect sense. Now I can't get that mental image out of my head. It's spreading!

143. Don't starve yourself. I did it during my college freshman year and it was one of the dumbest things I ever did. I got so obsessed with my weight that I ended up flunking out. Provided, I wasn't doing it for fandom reasons, but starving yourself can really mess up your brain. It's been 3 years and I still have problems.

156 & 164. Le sigh.

Aww, honey.

I think whatever makes you feel safe and unafraid is healthy for you. Writing, and fiction, is a great conduit for healing, and if you've found a way to make yourself feel better, then don't listen to anyone who wants to turn it into another thing for you to be emotionally anxious about. Pursue what heals you and let it do its work.

Sending you internet hugs, honey. Get well soon.

Shit, I'm sad to say I actually agree.

In my mind, she loves her husband very very very much and is oblivious to Adam's huge crush on her and probably sees him as a good friend and nothing more.

Oh, God. Now I need to look for RPF. This might be the first I would read XD LINK ME IF YOU HAVE, OP.

Therefore, "You are not an 'author' until you publish a REAL, PHYSICAL BOOK" = actually untrue. Step off your high-horse and lighten the fuck up.

I completely agree. This show got me through high school, and for sentimental value, I would have been happy if it ended the same year as my high school experience. It was our shared interest in the show freshman year that gave me two of the closest friendships in my life, and both of those friends are going to different colleges. Who knows, maybe the familiarity of the show will help the big high school to college transition, hah. I did strike up a friendship over the show while shadowing at a college, after all. I'll just have to worry about fighting my roommate for the TV every Thursday night at 9pm. That's the reason I plan on being the one to bring the TV.
