I am so excited to buy Platinum! I just wish it was going to be out for my birthday on the tenth. But I can handle a belated gift to myself. I love every generation and have loved seeing how they keep the basic awesome gameplay and adding new twists and details. Pokemon is a great game that just keeps getting better!

Re: #152

[identity profile] hyper-piggie.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! I know! My birthday isn't until May...

Usually I pass on the third game in a generation because I'm cheap and don't have the cash to buy the same game I have plus a little more... But it really looks like they've stepped it up with Platinum and can't wait to get it!

(Anonymous) 2009-03-01 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
156. Completely agreed. I've never gotten the "we are good, THEY ARE THE DEVIL" mindset.

160. If somebody doesn't want to drive or own a car and can get around on their own feet/buses/whatever, more power to them, but I always feel like not getting the LICENSE is just asking for trouble. It's like not bothering to learn CPR in Health Class.

[identity profile] catalinacat.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Haha, I think about half the SPN fandom would agree with you there.
but they really are sekrit!lovers

140. Watchmen made Time Magazine's "Top 100 Novels," so obviously someone thought it was good. I mean, for a COMIC BOOK to get placed with novels like Lolita or A Clockwork Orange...? I'd say you are in the very small minority for thinking it's overrated.

140.

[identity profile] vivalana.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is probably why the OP felt the need to keep it a secret.

140 - neh, to each his/her own. I wouldn't worry about it. :)

144 - AMEN. THANK YOU FOR THIS SECRET. 100% true.

154 - I don't read fic anymore, but you should also acknowledge that THE SHOW ITSELF seemed to forget pretty often that Shep has dark srs issues.

164 - I was with you until "faggot". >:( NOT cool.

154 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-02 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. And it's true but that doesn't make it less annoying that fandom as a whole, well fanfiction as a whole rather, because we have as a group tend to keep these things in mind more.... consistently than the PTB.

FAIL. I am a real AUTHOR, am published with a publishing company and my books aren't physical--they're ebooks.

FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.

On top of which, I write fanfic too. And given that connections in fandom are how I got published to begin with, I will accuse you of epic snobbery.

Get published, then we'll talk, "Writer-not-author". :P

Also, way to go with the epic homophobia/gay slur. Jealous much of "real writers/authors"?

That or an author who's pissed that fanfic writers are writing better fanfic than the original source *coughStephanieMeyercough*

131. Craig!Bond doesn't just win, he kills the competition.

140. I'm not into the Watchmen fandom, but I've read the book back in the early 90's when I was a preteen and I have been loving it since. It blew me away because it was unlike any other thing I had read so far. And that's exactly the impact it had on comics (especially American/superhero ones) when it came out. You're entitled to not liking it, to each their own, etc., but the comics you read today would be very different or wouldn't exist altogether without Watchmen. Btw complaining that it's "just" 12 issues? What's the point? It would probably have been even shorter if it depended on Moore, it's a self contained graphic novel, not something meant to go on ad infinitum.

156. Well, this kind of meta is actually interesting when it's well thought and constructive IMO, which thankfully is what I get in my corners of fandom. It's a matter of measure, like in everything else. On the other hand, when I first learned about the Bechdel test I thought of all the films/books that wouldn't pass it but that still look pretty awesome to me, and the awesome won. I mean, the test points to a real issue, but I'm not depriving myself of otherwise good fiction just because of it.

158. Damn, I'm not into the SW fandom but now I want to read that fic. Obviously my siblingcest kink is not a secret.

I feel ya.

I loved Firefly, but I think that if it continued for many seasons, the magic would be lost, and I rather like it the way it is.

[identity profile] kuromitsu.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
108 - Right. Movie preferences = serious business.

115 - Why would it make the ending creepy? She renounced her evil ways, he's obviously forgiven her...

129 - Nice boots. (How can he walk in them? O_o)

147 - ...Tom Cruise is on the right.... right?

Oh god, I love you so, so much.

This movie was amazing. And what REALLY pisses me off is that most people who say they "hate" the movie...haven't seen it. How can you say you hate something without ever having tried it? And it's not like the fandom or squeeing fangirls can put you off it - we're pretty minimal.

Oh, Speed Racer ♥

Re: 108

[identity profile] random00.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
AMEN!

I shake my head at the people who hate the movie. I mean, good GOD it's not suppose to be the next TDK (or... whatever), it's Speed Racer.

Regardless, I enjoyed it massively, and since it's release, it's been my go-to comfort movie. :3

I think you can have a good character (which I think he is), without him being a good person. Part of the appeal that he's a well constructed character, and not because he's charming.

Re: 130

(Anonymous) 2009-03-01 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He isn't a well-constructed character as much as he is an enjoyable character. His personality is that of a force-of-nature plot-device rather than some kind of actually well-written personality but he is also very fun to watch because he is like Graham and the writers never try to take him seriously unlike the more boring Ribbons or MORALLY GREY BUT TOTALLY LAME A-Laws.

117. Sirius would have been a good father figure if he'd spent more time with Harry, even though he disowned his entire family and therefore had much less of a relationship with his father than Harry did with any other strong male in his life? How peculiar.

Harry had Sirius, Lupin, Mr Weasley, and Dumbledore. I don't think he was really at a lack for people he could go to for fatherly advice.

Re: 117

[identity profile] vivalana.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell, Harry seemed to be the one who had to give fatherly kick-in-the-ass advice.

160 - I feel ya. If I get into this doctoral program I'm applying to, I'll have to learn to drive to get there, because it's just not happening otherwise. But I've done just fine without one, because I live in a place with good mass transit (well, widespread, at least, the "good" is dubious).
