123. DRU/MU! xD Wow, it took me way too long to understand that secret. But yeah, I ship it too. I blame the art.

I blame Mumu, for encouraging it.

Not that I mind.

Ditto. He seemed like a wonderful father to me. The advice he gave Albus was good advice!

That, and I've seen great dad's with terrible children and vice versa.

106 -- LOL! Poor JJ. If Cook kisses Freddie one more time, or tells him how much he fucking loves him again, I am going to EXPLODE. I'm not a big Freddie fan, but I wouldn't mind if they started fucking. In my mind, Cook is obviously in love with him, and JJ is in love with Cook. :D

140) It's hard for anything to live up to this level of hype. When I first found the Watchmen it was coming out in individual issues, and it was set in a context of the comic book industry finally waking up to the fact that it was adults not children who were doing most of the reading. Some of what made the Watchmen really stand out is now just normal: Flawed good guys, ambiguous bad guys, dark themes.

Visually it's can't hope to compete with glossy-slickness of todays graphics, but that's not what you should look for. The real magic is in the reflection of philosophical truth in the visual imagery. For example: when the ultimate reason for Rorshachs anger with the world is finally revealed, it suddenly becomes apparent that it has been on his face staring at us the entire time. That is why the Watchmen is fantastic, and that's what can't be shown by the movie.

154) Yeah, I prefer him to have a bit of depth to him as well.

155) It's the polite thing to do. Friendship is more important than a fic.

164) It's a bitch when people don't agree to your definitions of words.

D'awww, I love Sam & R. I hope you find your Sam - everyone should have a friend like that. :)

108. Sorry. Still alive.

115. I'm confused how your theories regarding Mytho and Rue's relationship connect with your fear of death. Unless you mean you're afraid that the fandom will kill you. Which, I don't see possible. I always thought the PT fandom was relatively hippie-like in its mentality.

140. Don't worry. It's a classic, that's for sure, but only a complete moron would think it was for everybody. I appreciate it for the ground breaker that it was at the time, but I absolutely deplored the characters (yes, all of them), and thought the ending was ridiculous.

144. Not "getting it," huh? Since when did the politifandom become the new Hetalia?

164. Either troll harder, or stop being a douche. Or both. I dunno, nor do I particularly care that much either way.

WORD

I read it because it's just one of those things you have to read if you're into comics- kinda like watching Evangelion if you're into anime. I can see why it gets the praise it does, and can appreciate it for what it is, but I wouldn't re-read it even if you paid me.

147

[identity profile] sparklyglampire.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched Top Gun the other day and discovered that imagining that Tom Cruise was actually Barrowman made that movie at least 3% gayer. Except for the fact that it's already 100% gay.

I think it is, point-blank, most fans of Firefly aren't sci-fi fans and don't really know the usual quality of sci-fi series. Or they do, and they don't like other sci-fi series -- which is why they like Firefly. It's not a typical sci-fi, and it managed to stay well-done because it didn't get the chance to go far.

[identity profile] mizuno-caitlin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
160. Sheldon Cooper on Big Bang Theory is the same way. And, I'm also in this pedestrian boat. =(

147: They do look very similar, especially when they smile, the both have smiles with way too many teeth in them. The difference is that John Barrowmn, bless him and his campiness, is openly gay.

150: I love 'Firefly', but I also love 'Buffy' and 'BSG' and 'SGA', and I realize that they are all different, and that 'Firefly' could have turned out similiarly to later two (SGA most particularly),but part of me thinks that Joss wouldn't have let a 5th season of 'Firefly' turn into the crap that was the 5th season of 'SGA'

Am I the only person in fandom that finds the entire beta system problematic anyway? Every story I read where the author gives thanks to their beta (or sometimes, multiple betas), I still find misspellings, grammatical errors, word omissions, etc. Anyone at all can volunteer to beta but hardly anyone actually has the necessary skills and knowledge. I've been asked many times to beta and...why? I had a couple of English classes in college - so not qualified, here. And because I'm just in a pissy mood today, I guess - I absolutely loathe the term 'beta'. What's wrong with 'edit' or 'proofread'?

[identity profile] weallfallout.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
102. I thought about that, too, but then I realized how ridiculous most of the Gundams look and figured they decided to just go all the way this time.

110. I feel the same about other fandoms. :| Sometimes I think, "Man, I'd really like to discuss this with someone!" but then I remember that I have had some really amazing moments of DURR HURR and I wonder if things are just going right over my head. :(

129. What is this?

130. I HAVE ONLY JUST STARTED WATCHING GUNDAM 00, and I have not gotten to that dude, but I often like characters because they are horrible people. Liking them doesn't mean you agree with them.

147. Holy shit, usually they look pretty different, but in that picture...

152. Seriously, it's the best? Arrrghhhh I want it, but I can't afford it. ;___; That figure you get for pre-ordering is so cool, too.

t!b1: I think she's pretty adorable in the show, too. She's very sweet, though a lot people find that makes her annoying. YMMV.

It went foom without ever being finished, so, yeah, take that happy ending and run with it.

(There's some good mildly-dystopian-AU fic in the fandom now, though, if you ever feel like dipping your toes back in...)

Kajol and SRK FTW!! I cannot wait for My Name is Khan, even though it isn't a romance. Kajol had more chemistry with SRK in their 5 seconds together in OSO than Deepika had with him the whole rest of the movie. Best jodi ever.

[identity profile] postal152.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
137. I'm this way too. Once I was in a fandom where it was common after every PWP for people to comment saying "I'll be in my bunk," and it was months later when I realized, oh, they're actually serious.

137 + 146 = OTP.

147. Haha! (Hint: John Barrowman is the one with the butt chin.)

165. Um, I might be right there with you? There was this one interview with both of them in particular that it just kind of occurred to me. He was talking about how he lived next door to her or something (?), and he just sounded so... lonely.

srsly rite. I still feel awkward when I read comments on porny fic that talk about how aroused the commenter is feeling. -_-
