155. It wasn't one of my favorite games ever, but I definitely enjoyed it. In fact, I've been considering playing it again. My husband and I both enjoyed it. :3 I adored the relationship between um...I don't remember the names. >.< Cara? And the dude she was in love with. XD; I assume the OP will know what I'm talking about! XD

169. Lawl, Iron Man secret is 69.

155 OP

His name was Grantes. I really liked their relationship, too. :3

You won't. I was a bit worried about the same thing but they are two very different series, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and it isn't easy for one to supplant the other.

Also, I've found the meisters much less slashable than the pilotlings myself, but that's just my opinion and this IS the internet...

[identity profile] math-camel.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
102 - huh. Ok.

114 - It's terrible, but I'd read it.

127 - Such a cute picture, I love how Finland and HanaTamago are sprawled but Sweden's all stiff and awake. They're such a great ship, problem is Hetalia has about a half dozen awesome relationships.

169 - Dude, of all the reasons to hate Iron Man, him possibly getting blown up is pretty lame. Most of them can get blown up, but only IM can be such a massive jerk about it. (But still, ILU Tony!)

NS!2 THAT'S THE JOKE.JPG

102 Uhm, what? Also, a lot of space opera/sci-fi has pacing like you described. I always thought of it in more historical terms, though. (This happens, builds to sort of a denoument, then more builup to another event, etc.)

104 Because playing with gender is fun? C'mon, haven't you ever wanted to see what you might look like as the opposite gender? I know I have.

110 You are the most awesome person ever.

113 Especially after that recent episode where Ellen said something to Saul about how "you love Bill Adama". I think I about fell out of my chair when that happened.

137 I guess I could see that. I mostly just think of him as creepy, though. I think it's the voice. Although considering his philosophy he's not any more or less creepy than Reuenthal, who I always found pretty sexy (despite the fact that, you know, he's a raving misogynist). Anyway, you rock, OP. I want to have your babies.

156 I know! I still maintain that it's the best thing Miyazaki's ever done but I think most people a) haven't seen the series or b) are too brainwashed by all the accolades his films have gotten to appreciate the fact that he was a better television director. But yeah, even when the show deals with really depressing themes, Miyazaki manages to do it in a really uplifting and inspiring way.

169 So? A lot of superheroes can be blown up. Do you ever think that people like Iron Man/Tony Stark for his actual personality rather than for his superheroic abilities?

156

[identity profile] lanoyee.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I haven't watched Future Boy Conan, unfortunately, but I'm very partial to his one epic manga, Nausciaä of the Valley of the Wind. Out of the things he's done that I've seen, it's definitely one of my favorites, or maybe the favorite.

I'm making a mental note on Future Boy Conan, though.

104 - I hear ya, OP. It bugs the everloving crap out of me too. I nerdrage privately about it a lot. You're not alone. *patpat*

145 - this bugs me too. Not as much as the genderswap stuff though.

170 - Qui-Gon Jinn is the best Jedi evar. Hands down. Still admire him even though my DUURRRRHURHURCRUSHLOVE died out years ago.

I think there's a reason for Katie's occasionally shaky performance on the show and that's simply experiance - or rather, her lack of it. She's not the youngest actor but she's the one who's been in the game for the least amount of time. At the last count, I think she'd been in three things - all but one bit parts - before she landed this role, and she'd never been to any kind of theatre school. She's NEVER had formal training, unlike every other member of the cast. She's never done theatre. She didn't even MEAN to get into acting until a couple of years ago. If you look at the resumes of the other main four, they ALL went to drama college, they've ALL got screeds of stuff they've been in even if it's just theatre - they've ALL been acting since they were in their teens. By comparison, Katie is EXTREMELY inexperianced. It's no wonder she's not as self-assured as the others.

Also, if you listen to the audio commentaries, Katie makes a comment in one of them about how embarassed she is by some of her scenes in 1x04 - specifically the 'he's a lover' line (with reguards to Merlin). She says that she did that before she realised that she could object to certain lines if she thought they were out of character or not coming off properly. Again - it shows a basic lack of confidence on her part; she's clearly still learning whereas the others are all already on top of their game.

Bottom line - Katie's a young inexperianced actress who landed a big part maybe a bit before she was ready to tackle it, but actually I don't think she's handling it at all badly given the circumstances. Some of her emotional stuff jars a bit - she definitely does sarcasticly mocking better than she does sentimental concern - but I genuinely thought her performance in the last two episodes of the series were REALLY good (at least they showed a good deal of imrpovement). I reckon she'll catch up with the others - she's just having to make up for about ten years of experiance in theatre and tv and drama school that she doesn't have.

103 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-03 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, thanks for not just saying that i'm crazy or don't know what I'm talking about - that's kind of why i don't say anything to anyone else about it, because I got a feeling people would jump down my throat. but i knew she seemed kind of off in some of her scenes. it's not that i don't like her, and i really think her character's fascinating but sometimes the way she says her lines is distracting.

anyway, i didn't know she was so much less experienced than the others. that actually explains a lot. plus she was given some pretty difficult stuff for a first-timer to handle. here's hoping she keeps getting better. :)

148. If you're going to hate Twilight hate it because it's a terrible book/movie

This is the reason why people hate it so much. There's nothing trendy about hating Twilight, there just happens to be a ton of people who all realize how shitty it is

104

[identity profile] tracevincente.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't get it either. I'm glad other people are enjoying themselves with it and all, but it leaves me stone cold. And someone mentioned the 'novelty' of it, but depending on the fandom, it's not a novelty at all. In the SPN fandom, there's an assload of girl!Sam and girl!Dean stories - nothing novel there.

Re: 104

(Anonymous) 2009-03-04 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they can have fun, but I just...nope, nuh-uh, not for me.

I hardly find it novel; I see it all over 90% of the fandoms I'm in. I fail to see how something is novel when it's done constantly.

106. Oh, you must see it. And I say that as a hardcore lolfan. I mean, it's just too classic not too--you'll either enjoy it genuinely or enjoy it mockingly, really.

107. Eeshk. Awkward. Been there.

110. Are you a Family Guy fan? Even if you're not, I beseech you, watch this 35-second clip (http://bligbi.com/2007/02/02/family-guy-rips-pat-robertson/). It is one of the greatest things EVER.

112. But he's an alien!! That doesn't count! It's cheating! *hops* Then again, better alien than petulant emo boy, I suppose.

116. *DIES* You are probably right. "Nooowww...who's in my chair?" "Oh! Oh, I know! Yzma! Yzma's in your chair!" "Very good, Kronk! Get the snack!" One of my all-time favorite movies. Ever.

121. People are allowed to like whatever they want, of course, but if I may speak for my people (the mockers, as it were), I think our issue is how seriously some fans take it. Like, girls who break up with their boyfriends because they're not as good as Edward and make felt arts-and-crafts of Bella's uterus. (No, really. REALLY.) I personally don't think the books have a good message, and I think too many people, especially young women, are taking everything literally and that's...bad. Just my opinion.

131. In as much as ONTDK parties are still my favorite thing ever on the internet, I must agree with you. (Possibly my favorite macro (http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq180/lapetiteontd/holfded.jpg).)

132. Yeah, see? This. He is controlling and that is not good. Yeah, it's fiction, but people are taking it too seriously.

139. This comm has opened my eyes to a fanbase I never knew existed! Damn, I didn't know people dug it so much. I mean, on a fandom-y level. O_____o

146. Ha ha, I like this one right after a Mylar secret...yeah, I'm on board too, ngl. Why is he still there?! Luke, I mean! Anyone else would have run away from that crazy motherfucker in a heartbeat. But he digs him. This week was hilarious--*SMASHES FACE ON WINDOW* "Dude...you're hurting me." Awesomely bad dialogue + awesomely gay road trip = win, and everybody knows it.

169. Because now I picture RDJ. And that will always work for me. Yeah, I said it.

Dragon*Con parade FTW!

I love the fact that several thousand fans can get up on Saturday morning (sometimes REALLY early) to put on costumes to march thru the streets of Atlanta after a usually full night of drinking and partying. Some don't even bother going to bed....

144 LMAO SERIOUSLY? Seriously?? Who writes fic for a pairing they hate just to prove a point. Goddamn. Who are you to tell people what is appropriate to like or not like. Guess what, I HATE Sylar/Elle with a burning passion that probably surpasses your hate for Mylar, but others are still entitled to like it (as long as they don't but their noses into my business).

And, by the way, it doesn't actually prove anything. Because fic in general is not good. Don't get me wrong, there are some gems out there, but the majority of it (in any fandom) sucks. You posted in a self contained community that not all fic readers read, and you don't take into account the fact that not all people in a fandom read fic, a fandom is not defined by it's fic.
