159: I honestly think you need to widen the range of music you listen to if you actually find Paul McCartney's voice 'grating'. Not liking it is one thing, but really. (I can understand finding Lennon a bit harsh sometimes.)

163: It's the fake tan that puts me off. Tan is supposed to be, well, tan, not orange. Nicola is beautiful, I agree.

142. It's a completely legitimate concern! Kirk, Spock and McCoy's interactions together are what make up the real heart of the original series, after all.

148 - So this is going to sound like a dumb thing to say, but...if you can get tickets, if you can see them? Do it. Seeing them in concert was exhilarating, and I have to admit for me, as close to a religious experience as I've ever had. A stadium of people rushing through the same joy, enthralled by the same music? There's nothing like it. I don't imagine it would help with faith in God, but...it was a profound moment for me in terms of feeling that the world really did have beauty in it, at a time when that was what I needed to feel.

101. I'm nowhere near "the best author" in any fandom, but I've been incredibly snooty and judgmental about some not-so-bad!fic in the past, and I feel like shit about it. I'm going to try and stop, anon, even though I know this secret isn't about me.

If they switch to first names in canon, that's fine and dandy. I mean, I assume the canon will at least mention the shift and not just plow right into it without a word about it. But in that case, I don't want first names in fics set before The Canon Switch (or last names in fics set after, unless there's a Really Good Reason to Change Back, which is totally acceptable), and any AU still has to have the transition done reasonably.

Basically, as long as it's done with some thought to the Japanese norm of using surnames ahead of first names, I'm okay with it. It's just that so many people seem to be incapable of even that much, because they're just so desperate to switch to first names as soon as possible, no matter what they have to do to get there.

I'm going to have to echo the disagreement here. In particular, I thought McCartney performed a really moving "Hey Jude" but Joe Anderson? Nnnnnoooot so much.

159. You're pretty shallow if you think all there is to the Beatles is Lennon and McCartney's voices. Can I assume you're willfully leaving out Harrison and Starr because you don't dislike their songs? Or are you just too ignorant/stupid to realize that all four of them sang sometimes, and that Harrison wrote his own songs and Starr composed a couple too? And that they pretty much wrote and played all their own instruments?

Of course, I refuse to see "Across the Universe" because the awful covers of excellent Beatle tunes I heard in the trailer/previews hurt my soul so much I know I'd hate it on principle. But I somehow find that's slightly different.

In short though, I can see why you keep this a secret. I'd certainly lose respect for you if you are/were someone I knew.

I felt the same - I finally watched it with my sister on one of the cable channels because she really wanted to see it.

Some of the covers weren't all that great, but I was hella impressed with Dana Fuchs who sang covers of Why Don't We Do It In the Road, Helter Skelter, and Oh, Darling. WDWDIITR was particularly good. Strawberry Fields, I Want You (She's So Heavy), and Happiness is a Warm Gun were pretty good, particularly with the accompanying cinematography, and Because was actually really beautiful with the nine part harmony. And I actually really liked the (mostly) a capella version of I Want to Hold Your Hand.

Oh, and Joe Cocker singing Come Together was fantastic! Best vocal performance in the movie by far. Eddie Izzard was pretty cool doing For the Benefit of Mr. Kite. I wasn't all that impressed with Bono - he did I Am the Walrus (so-so) and Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. Elton's cover of the latter was much much better.

The rest... you could take it or leave it. (You'd probably leave it :-P) But I was surprised that I enjoyed it overall nonetheless.
