They aren't ruining him. Since s2, there's always been the possibility of Sam getting closer to the edge. Sam's changing, yeah, but his character isn't getting ruined. Far from it. I love Sam, and I think it's really fascinating what they're doing with him in s4. He might not be getting as much onscreen time at the moment, but I think it's because the writer's are trying not to give to much away re: how bad Sam is getting, etc.

and if I watch porn marketed to men, all I can think about is how incredibly skeevy the power issues and d/s themes in men's mainstream porn are. I'll bet (if you're saying guys just aren't into that stuff) that those are mostly invisible to you. We don't see what we're used to.

Also, if you're just working from fandom secrets, of course people are admitting to more paraphilias here, where they're in confessional mode.

I totally agree with your first sentence (and the rest, too). At least in D/S-themed fic (and overtly D/S porn) the dynamics are being acknowledged and clearly examined and played with. "Regular" (male-oriented, visual) porn, with all the gagging, choking, slapping, spitting, etc. on women being taken for granted freaks me the fuck out. And yet if that's done in a context where power play is acknowledged and it's clear that the submissive partner enjoys all that and actually wants it...then it's a turn on.

Hyotei and Rikkai are overrated. My favorite teams tend to be some of the least favorite ones like St. Rudolph. ♥ I just love that entire team, so you're not alone secret poster. At least, in the love for some of less popular teams.

106. OK, I'll admit that I sympathize. I haven't exactly gone so far as to call people out on their bullshit, but there have been times where I got people angry over stupid stuff, or there have been times where I realized so-called "friends" where complete self-absorbed assholes with whom I didn't want to associate anymore. It's rough seeing these things all the fucking time -- perhaps not to the extent you have, OP, but it's still rough. One of the myriad reasons why I like lurking rather than being more active. Then again, one of the hallmarks of any fandom is, to one extent or another, shallowness -- just look at a typical day here on fandomsecrets, what with all the "I'd hit it" or "I ship it" secrets. I'm not implying shallowness is necessarily a bad thing -- I take more of a "live and let live" mentality on that -- but a lot of times it just goes too far. Not to mention some people (not all) are in fandom because they otherwise don't know how to act IRL and are trying to make friends based on shared interests and jumping through hoops just to get noticed (which sometimes is the case with some fanart and fanfiction). All that shit you mentioned is bound to happen in one way or another, everywhere you look. And you know what? I think it's commendable that you're calling people out. Somebody's gotta.

There are, however, two things I'd like to point out. One, please be careful on how you come across. If people are hating you, it may not be because you called them out, but how you did it. If you were insulting, condescending, spiteful, etc., you just gave them good reason to hate you. If you're going to do this, try to be more careful, OK? And two, sometimes it isn't worth getting worked up over. I hate to say it, but most people never really change, they just become more and more convoluted. You may want to pick and choose your battles. If you find yourself in a situation you know you can't influence one way or another, it may make you end up looking like a fool. Don't fight what you see as wrong just because you're venting IRL frustrations; do it if you're absolutely certain you can make a difference. Best of luck to you. :-)

152. I'm pretty much the same way. After a while, for many people like myself, porn just gets old. If I'm in the mood, I'll enjoy it once in a while, but most of the time I'm looking for halfway-decent writing, well-formed plots, and strong characterizations. And when pretty much everything in your fandom of choice is PWP, it gets very frustrating very, very quickly. And word about feeling like the only one who doesn't give two shits about teh pr0nz. D:
