Wanted to say it in the comments thread, but I completely disagree and yet 110% respect this secret.

My aesthetic sense is in the total opposite extreme, but I doff my cap at you placing your flag behind this silhouette.

Safety concerns and fascist CEO aside, I don't think it's the car's shape exactly that turns most people off. More that its shape doesn't fit the universal style rest of the real world it necessarily drives through.

Kinda like watching a 2d character walking down a 3d street. In the same way weirdo big headed bug eyed anime people look fine in a stylized world but would be creepy aliens if they were wandering around your local high school.

I kind of liked it when it was first announced, because it reminded me of the Mako in Mass Effect (which I think I'm alone in liking. You just have to get it perpendicular to the thing you're shooting and rock back and forth, you guys!).

But even if Musk weren't a modern-day robber baron, and even if it couldn't be surveilled and remotely controlled by the manufacturer, it's a poorly made piece of crap that'll lock you inside of it if it catches on fire.

I'm not a fan. It doesn't even look like a truck. But I have truck baggage. I lived through the heyday of the low rider Toyota trucks and the OG Ford Ranger, and I don't understand why trucks just kept getting bigger and bigger. I don't want an extended cab. I don't want a construction vehicle. I definitely don't want a car truck. I want an fuel efficient little 2-seater baby truck with a practical cab for having a picnic down by the creek and swinging my short legs over the low little tailgate. Sigh.

I can’t see this and not think about the difference between the movie and the book – footage of a frightened horse vs a terminally depressed monologue from a sentient being.

I really wish they hadn’t had to distress a horse in the filmmaking, but the book stayed with me much longer and more acutely. That kind of despair was just existentially frightening.

(And that was even before I developed clinical depression myself.)

being called weird? Bonus question, are you queer (or LGBT+ if queer bothers you)?

My dad sometimes calls me weird (usually for dumb reasons, like I like some food he doesn't or something), and I have to admit, it bothers me. He always says he doesn't mind being called weird and actually likes it, but I feel like there's a different connotation to calling a straight man weird and calling a queer woman (me) weird. I feel like I've tried so hard my entire life to be "normal" that being called weird just hurts my feelings a little more than maybe it would otherwise. He's accepting, and never calls me weird because of my sexuality, it's always little trivial things, but just the idea of being thought of as weird at all bothers me.

How do you all feel about it?
