I'm not usually a big fan of surprise!return from the dead plot twists because they're so difficult to do well. You have to really come up with a good explanation for how someone can be definitively dead for sure, and yet... somehow... not dead.

But I find it hard to begrudge this particular one because Richard Roper was a fantastic villain and because it's Hugh Laurie.

I’ve thought about this a few times. I was curious when the court cases all got tossed out if he’d return but he didn’t (as of like a week ago, anyway). I originally thought he would but now I don’t think he will. The cases were all tossed out in the US but that doesn’t mean he won’t face more litigation. Plus the divorce is still going on and it’s pretty nasty from the little I’ve heard. He’s better off keeping any public comments to a minimum because it could all be used against him.

Not a Secret: Grew up with Harry Potter and then... Outgrew it. Never finished the final book because I just thought "there's fic better than this" after half a chapter. Connections to fandom fizzled out. Haven't thought about HP in literal decades.

Secret: All the HP secrets here have sent me down a nostalgic fanfic rabbit hole.
Bonus Secret: still have no idea what the canon ending is; also have no interest in JKR as a person/her views.

I instantly lose respect for any horror movie content creator who says Christian „deserved“ to die because he was such a shitty boyfriend and especially if they say he cheated.
Was he a great boyfriend? No. But being a bad boyfriend shouldn‘t get you the death penalty.
Did he cheat? Nope, he was drugged and raped. And if you blame him for that, that‘s pretty shitty.

Oh for real OP. Like Christian was absolutely a shit boyfriend, no doubt about that, but Dani was also a deeply, deeply troubled person who has something horribly traumatic happen, and it made her kind of latch onto him as the only stable thing in her life. Shit went sideways because neither of them were equipped to handle it.

No one was really at fault, it was a shit situation that got horrifically worse, but people need someone to blame so it tends to be Christian because he already wanted out, and I guess they see his drugged rape as an extension of that? It's a very weird take and one I can't agree with tbh.

The worst thing about this discourse is that if the creator glosses over the rape and someone brings it up in the discussion/comments, someone will jump on them to "We don't need to acknowledge that anymore, it's all anyone ever talks about; yall care more about him than everything that happened to the protag because everyone always cares more about the man, you just proved why this movie's existence is so important for feminism." Or worse and more commonly, "It wasn't rape because in a scene before that he said he was attracted to the girl."

The "deserves to die" may vary based on the lens you're looking through - objectively, does someone deserve to die because they're a shitty partner? Of course not. But horror movie logic has a different definition of "deserving to die." For example, I'd say the dumbass who pissed on the cult's special log had it coming, but only in this genre.

Absolutely agree on the cheating aspect. It's really weird when people say he cheated on her. Did we watch the same movie? It was rape.

... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and while I'm definitely not the world's greatest expert at secret design, I'll try my best. Please note that long comment secrets can be difficult to make with a good end result. Most of the time, I'll give it a shot but might not be able to make secrets where the text is so lengthy that I can't fit it into the limited space.

I'm trying something new with the comment secret thread and extending the deadline to comment until Monday's post goes up. I'll monitor this thread until then, and hope the extra day will be more helpful for everyone.

As a queer gamer I avoid queer gaming spaces like the plague.

Never been in one that was focused on the game and not on everybody hooking up with everybody else with games as the hobby vehicle + the 'NSFW' channel being the most active + someone at some point trying to send me nudes or meet up IRL.

At this point I'd rather play with a bunch of middle aged married straight dads with kids :\
