Same here, sometimes people don't like you for whatever reason, sometimes you can't even do anything about it. You have to just live with it and roll with it. It is kind of freeing, though, when you realize you don't HAVE TO be liked and can just live your life the way you want and let others think whatever they think.

Very basic pet peeve but people standing in doorways AAAAAHHHHH GET OUT OF THE WAAAAAAAAAY

And how OFFENDED some people get when you ask them to move! Like YOU are in the wrong for wanting to enter/exit a building!

Re: Can we, like, NOT make fun of literal children? Twitter is the worst, man.

I hope the family or team or whatever of all the kids involved in this series protect them and keep them far away from social media.

Yeah, that’s one of those things where I understand how and why it happens, I know it’s a process with a long history and is probably inevitable … and I still think it’s a shame to lose some of the unusual fossilized forms in English.

However, my opinion changes radically as soon as I get back into “teaching ESOL” mode. Then I want to regularize the fuck out of everything and finally fix English spelling/pronunciation rules.

For me, the constant worry of “am I in someone’s way?” is so second nature that I find that kind of behavior almost alien.

The version I run into most often is a small group of people standing in a way that takes up the whole sidewalk. When I feel bolder, I sometimes walk right through the middle of their conversation rather than try to squeeze past at the edges.

Showing up to a scheduled event and finding there’s almost no one else there.

I prepped a thing to bring (an art project, a dish, etc) and I was ready to be friendly and social with strangers. I even made an effort to be there a little early. I was not ready to be one of only four people present and have to actively smile and small talk for a full hour.

It’s happened a couple of times in the last few weeks and I hate it.

NA - Hard same. I would go as far as to say my taste in visual art is fairly shallow. I like visual art that is aesthetically pleasing. If it feels evocative to me in some way, that's a big plus. And that's about it. Occasionally a piece of art I find aesthetically unappealing will speak to me in some way that makes me go, okay, yeah, I'm into it. But most of the time I just like stuff I find pleasing to look at. My taste is basic as hell, and I have decided to accept and embrace it.

The art establishment won't admit that because then they'd also have to admit that when it comes to quite a lot of "artist's" output, the only reason it's called "inspired" instead of "pretentious, yet crap" is that those artists are rich and have connections in the art world. Whereas the output of many artists whose work is genuinely inspired is considered valueless and unworthy of attention because they aren't rich and they don't have connections in the art world. The art establishment is just as elitist and wealth/class based as any other establishment. It just deludes itself into believing that it deserves to be elitist because it's high on its own supply.

You are part of the problem.

There was no reason to link that. There was no reason to perpetuate the visibility of any posts in any platform hosting that.
“People are making fun of the child who plays Harry Potter after seeing the new HBO teaser trailer.” That’s just one of countless ways to share the situation without promoting the content.

When a business or establishment has information that their patrons/attendees would benefit from knowing, but nobody has taken it upon themselves to just make a quick little announcement.

A few examples: if a particular form of payment is not working, and there's a big lineup of people, but they're only informing each person as they reach the front of the line. Or if a specific item that is very popular is not currently available (like say anything espresso-based at a coffee shop). Or if they KNOW that lots of people are getting in the wrong lineup, and there's no signage or the signage is very unclear, but they just let all those people stay in the wrong lineup.

Just make a quick announcement. If I find out something like that as a patron, I will always just raise my voice and make the announcement myself, so that nobody ends up wasting their time unnecessarily. I keep it short and I don't embellish in anyway, just: The situation appears to be [X], in case that affects your plans.

Replied to the wrong comment, sorry!

Thank you!

Clearly Columbo takes place in an alternate universe where you can't preemptively get an attorney. Don't ask how this would work.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Same.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
My biggest fear is someone feeling this way about me, hah. But I'm too ashamed to share art or bounce ideas in the fandom server I'm in.

People who give unsolicited advice about things they know nothing about. My dad does this incessantly and defends as "I'm trying to help!" Really? Spouting total nonsense with great confidence is helpful how? He will eagerly and insistently tell people stuff that's wrong and then argue about how he's right until you can prove it to him, then it's oh whoops, just trying to help, dunno why you're so ungrateful, etc. etc.

Ugh, this. Honestly, it might be partly a gender thing because I see SO MANY women (in a workplace situation) talk about how they'll say X and then nobody pays attention until a man says it, and then everyone is oohh, great idea!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)

I think that to some degree it comes down to intentionality; I don't know Andre, but I imagine he's making his art look like that on purpose, to induce some emotional response. (The desired response could well be "that looks like something my four year old brother did". I mean probably not. But I'm sure there's a non-zero amount of artists who have done that.)

Whereas the average 4-year-old is just trying their best to recreate what they've seen in real life and/or their imagination, but they're four and only just started learning how to do art at all.

My partner does the same thing. He's barely listening to what I say, so I'll propose and idea and he'll just grunt or go "uh huh". And then a few days later, he'll come up with the same damn idea and get annoyed when I don't act like it's a brilliant concept he just came up with on his own.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You're doing the right thing OP. Everyone starts badly somewhere and it would be worse if you told them that their art sucked.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, Columbo would have been eaten by an orc if he was in Lord of the Rings </3

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL yeah. It's like a middle schooler insulting me or something. Makes me want to pat them on the head.

'gifted' as a verb.

*shakes fists at clouds*

I've been called annoying and essentially cringey for my interests since the age of 5, so yeah random strangers usually get blocked when they come round to let me know how bad my tastes are \o/

Oh man so true
