I'm really enjoying the series, but I'm only halfway through!

I think the point of both Mr and Mrs Bennet is that they weren't always awful but ended up that way through poor choices, so a prequel could make me feel sympathy for them without altering my feelings towards them in canon.

I feel like OP's experience is so "realizing you're an adult" coded.
As we get older, we find ourselves seeing people in three dimensional ways. Like, "Oh that grouchy old lady isn't mean just because she enjoys being mean. She'd been treated poorly by her ex-husband." Or "oh my boss has a shitty home life, that's why they're nice but weirdly distant."

Tobey Maguire has never really done anything for me - I find him a decent to good actor, but I have zero attraction to any of his characters (it's not just his appearance, it's also his mannerisms and the way he plays them). However, I could get on board with young Sam Waterston and Robert Redford versions of the characters.

I genuinely do not get those type of relationships, and at worst I very much cannot stand them. Like from a characters perspective, I guess people can be like that, but it often comes across like such a weird mistake to never learn from.
From a fannish interpretation, I generally hate that dynamic. Because I only ever see it with a genuinely good person being shipped or paired with a horrible douchebag and everyone ohhs and ahhs about how "she's so good for him!", "he NEEDS her!" Like! what about her? Why can't she ever have anything good?

I hate that if the first Star Wars movie was made today, the scene of Darth Vader escaping the Death Star destruction would be an "End/Mid Credits Scene" instead of being in the movie proper. The need to hold stuff back for the credits ruins the flow of so many movies.

I am sick to death of this dude. The fanon version of him is very moe and OOC, and fans' preference for "cute G'raha" has bled into his official writing. And since he's the most popular character in the game, the devs assume that the player loves him, so he's always up my ass.

B!S: I wouldn't mind as much if either of my faves were alive, or if one of them hadn't got done REAL dirty by the writers. It's tough to be happy for others' feasts when your own dinner comes out burnt. :(

B!S2: It's actually a red flag to me if someone legit, whole-heartedly hates him. Like, what's your problem? (My feelings about the flanderized catboy are complicated.)
