I do write some speculative fiction - one of my worlds is a matriarchy, in fact. The roles of men and women are very different to say the least. They'd be unrecognizable, to us. My protagonist is a woman, and her experiences are unlike those any woman would experience in real life. It's what makes speculative fiction fun!

I suppose you could write speculative fiction in a world in which all children are grown in vats and raised by the government. That would obviate the difference in biology, and issues such as abortion, reproductive and parental rights, etc.

But since this was very obviously not what anyone was talking about, it's rather beside the point, isn't it.

What?! I love this movie. What's to hate? :(

Well, it is upsetting to see someone being grossly innacurate. It can be very easy to do something disrespectful in Hetalia fandom, so it's best that fans educate themselves.

THANK YOU OP. I have been trying to remember the name of this game for ages!

Ooh yay. :D

YES. When he was at comiccon this year in Calgary, I was briefly tempted to see if he'd sign my Can't Hardly Wait dvd, but the thought of waiting in line with Twitards terrified me.

...The Nixon era occurred in America. Besides, I never said the women weren't there! But they were not the main players.
You seem to be avoiding the salient points I bring up. I agree that my practice of preferring men shares some characteristics with misogyny, in that misogynists also prefer men. But the similarities end there. I do not see where I am actually committing an act of misogyny by not writing about women. It is not more or less moral to write at all; it is therefore not moral or less moral to write about women. I don't see how this is anyone's problem but mine.
Tell me, why do you think I'm unconsciously sexist just because I insist on treating men and women differently? I don't think men are better overall. I prefer the company of women, myself. If anything, I like men as characters because they tend to be more obviously flawed.
On a note unrelated to me, have you considered that people might prefer to spare female characters from harm because it makes them uncomfortable to be part of a broader system that favors mistreatment of women? Why is it always damsels that are tied up and in distress?

HOLY CRAP. *flail* Why did I not know about this? YEE.

[identity profile] demiincarnate.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! I did write a story like that once, with the vats and the government. There were no gender issues in that society. But then they met some ordinary humans and had gender issues. But yeah, totally beside the point.

I fucking loved the movie, in all its homoerotic glory. You're not alone, OP.

OH GOD NO YOU LIKE SOMETHING YOUR FRIENDS DON'T? NOOOOO.

Really, agreeing with [livejournal.com profile] sara_rojo. It gets old, listening to people bitch about how they like it but are "afraid" to talk about it.

I'm assuming you're a guy because guys tend not to like the good boy characters.

There's a meme going around Livejournal to get to know other artists here and to get other artists to know you. A lot of them are in fandom. You might be interested in filling it out (if you haven't already, OP):

While I disagree, I was thinking "alright, I can see how you'd feel that way," until you put making something with a quote next to cropping a screenshot.

Sorry if that sounds silly, but that feels a bit too close to "text art isn't art" to me.

Any recs?

[identity profile] lady-laguna.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't read a lot of fic but you have any cute art recommendations? I haven't found a whole lot of Powser that I've liked, myself. But I'm not an expert at finding stuff!

People gettin' mad judgy up in here. :/ If a kid is having those kinds of thoughts, they're gonna fantasize about characters they know. Obviously somebody's going to end up with Donald Duck. It's not like we don't already get tons of secrets about people wanting porn of kids' shows.

I never shipped it when he kidnaps her.

I did, however, ship it a little in Super Paper Mario.

LOL WAY TO MISS THE POINT OF THAT GAME SELF.

I torture male characters in my fanfiction. This is because I identify with them. I tend to hate female characters- for what I'd like to believe are good reasons, but if people want to complain about how I'm a misogynist feminist anti-feminist or whatever, I encourage people to have a field day with it.

In my original fic, I write women I can relate to, and then torture them.
