I agree. I get confused with the shipping names sometimes. The combinations aren't that bad, but when the fandom comes up with totally odd names for shippings. Saunashipping from Warriors is a darn good example: makes absolutely no sense unless you've memorized all the hundreds of shippings and their names. (It's Firestar and Mistyfoot, if you were wondering.)

it's the way May delivers it though. With Clarkson and Hammond their aggressive presentational style comes across as attacking some person and/or group and it's laughing at people.

With May though his self-deprecating style, and slightly bumbling on-screen persona, it comes across as him being baffled and we are laughing with him, at him. Not at the expense of whatever group and/or person has got him lost and flummoxed, again.

When you are dealing with potentially offensive views and humour it really is all in the delivery.

I'm pretty sure everyone is 100% aware that they don't genuinely belong to a house for a school they haven't attended. They just mean that they have personality traits that, in the series, would have placed them in that house.

In a way I agree, in that I don't think he was in love with anyone but Julia, and that was no romcom even if you don't count the ending. Doesn't mean he didn't have any feelings for Faye but he makes it pretty clear where his priorities were and I agree he wasn't "madly in love."

That said, I have written and read him with people who aren't Julia in fanfic and I think it can be done well. And if people wish he had gotten together with Faye there's nothing wrong with that.

tl;dr Your explanation makes sense but "I hate this pairing" always puts my back up.

90% of all fanfic is crap, I think you are just noticing the crap more in fandoms you aren't part of and selectively reading the fandoms you are in. i.e., I don't like twiglet fanfic, and think it contains 100% pure peado shit. However I do have a friend that loves it and is always going on about this fic, or that, fic which rocks. She hates all the stuff in my chosen fandom, despite it self-evidently containing 400% pure awesome writing.

I am replying to this half to use this icon, and half to say...that's the joke. The entire point of her (and the Critic, and a heap of other reviewers) is to take your nostalgia goggles and smash them into itty-bitty pieces. If that's why they don't like her, well, this is not the corner of the internet they need to be spending their time in. There are plenty of places that heap praise on the same movies she tears down.

You are completely correct. I noticed that too, but it's more in the recent years. The older posts on the kinkmeme have more character prompts and less RPF. Which is a shame because I don't care about fake stories about real people and want to read about my favorite characters. But those stories are now so few.

I'm thinking it might be because the gloss of the characters is gone after 6 years. Meanwhile, through cons and interviews, the fans have gotten to know the actors better and created some sort of fantasy world about them. Maybe that's why they now like to write about them more. It's a shiny new toy in an otherwise old fandom.

Possibly screwed? Good rarely comes from starving oneself, but if WoW can actually help you get used to a (hopefully nutritious and sufficient) reduced diet by being a fun distraction from unnecessary urges to eat, then that might not be so bad.
Good diets should come with hobbies, maybe.

But again, ignoring the necessary and healthy urges to eat and starving oneself will end badly, so like with everything, it's bad to go overboard. So if that's the case, a solid schedule for food might help. Be careful!

To be honest, participating anonymously in a kink meme showed ME what a whiny, bitchy, ungrateful, and demanding person I can be. *is ashamed*

I mean... just don't let it get to you. People only complain when there's something wrong. (And sometimes they complain when there's nothing wrong, too.) BUT any time they're not complaining? It's because your meme is seriously PERFECT.

I speak from experience -- I've gotten worked up about an issue and had people tell me it wasn't an issue for them; I've called another anon out on rule-breaking only to have the mod say they didn't consider it rule-breaking. I'm trying to be more chill on kink memes, I really am, so I apologize on behalf of all the fussy anons that pop up randomly just to complain. There's just something about anonymity that makes it so much easier to get annoyed AND be annoying.
