25. HELL YES. I'm already drawing her as a girl :P

I'm trying to figure out why people care if they're clothes are trendy or not. So? If I'm a woman who wears a powersuit to work and then goes home to enjoy the latest episode of Bleach, does that make me better than anyone else? I don't think so. You people who are like "OMGGASP! I dress nice too!" well...so what? If you wear a two inch mini skirt and I wear a faded gundam shirt and jeans, what fucking difference does it make?

Fashion starts with an F for a reason. It stands for FAIL!

::gasps::

don't you GET IT? they are trendsetters! the cutting edge of cool. they are the STEREOTYPE BUSTERS! they will be total anime geeks and dress fashionably to help destroy those pesky stereotypes that all anime fans are mouth breathers with bad taste in clothing! SEE HOW FASHIONABLE THEY ARE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO BREAK DOWN THE WALLS??!!??!?!

::sobs:: you just don't understand us.

[identity profile] thepinkangel.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)

21. Do us all a favor and get off your moralistic high horse. Your tastes, whatever they are, do not make you better than anybody else. So you like that stuff, fine, whatever. Get off your soapbox.
And by the way? Being a fangirl is NOT a good thing.

25. Agreed. I wonder how differently fandom would have reacted if Deidara had actually turned out to be a girl... (Though I'm unbelievably thankful that they did get a guy to voice him. Ugh, I'm sick of girly guys being voiced by GIRLS. There are plenty of Japanese men with high girly voices! Use them!)

LOVE! I'm just starting to rewatch Pilot Candidate, ironically.

I don't have any fic recs, though. D: The fandom seems to be dead, seeing as how the manga and the anime have come to a complete dead end. :X
ext_3302: What hasn't science done? (naruto objection!)

[identity profile] 4ti3k4t35.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
14. Is that some Pilot Candidate/Candidate for Goddess?! Wait, there's a fandom? WHERE? o_o

21. It's "our freaking smut", dearie. *coughs* I love the picture you used. =D

25. Sometimes I hope Confucius died horribly. Maybe it made up for his douchebaggy contributions to the communities which adopted/mangled his ideas. =|

[identity profile] cephiedvariable.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
2. I don't think a lot of girls ACTUALLY find him sexually attractive. I think it's just one of those "cool" things to say in fandom.

5. What? Is it really a "thing" for anime fans to do the whole: "I'm gonna create my own style!!!" thing because most anime fans I meet dress to current style, except the younger ones, who kind of do that in-vogue half-assed gothpunk thing except coupled with Inu-Yasha shirts and Naruto forehead protectors. Or are you just talking about how people involved in any subculture are all like: "MAINSTREAM IS STOOPID I AM SO INDUVIDUAAAAL." Or how anime fans, uh, apparently "don't take care of their apperance"?

I feel like I'm better than other people because I stick out like a blinking neon light in a crowd, which might actually make me MORE judgmental than you. SO IT'S ALL GOOD. *high five* I mean, seriously, I pitch fits when the things I've been wearing for years go INTO style. I'm sorry, but I've never seen ANYONE pull off the "skirt over jeans" look right. :P

oh wtf i am so conceited

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
23. Why would you be annoyed that more people are starting to like him...? Does it make you feel "cool" to love the "ugly" character - and be one of the few?

[identity profile] allira-dream.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Can't say much about Lexaeus' case since I try not to get too involved in KH2, but the way I've seen it from other fandoms is that many of these fans are sort of the attitude of 'I'M SO AWESOME! INSTEAD OF GOING FOR YOUR BISHOUNEN, I'M STICKING TO THE UGLY CHARACTER! THUS I WIN'.

G-gets kind of annoying when people think you're of the same mentality.

[identity profile] jenken.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
6. I totally think of Hikaru and Kaoru on league with the Weasley twins. I was wondering even if Fred or George would be the "more evil one." XD But my friend and I decided they were pretty equal.

7. TOTALLY AGREED. I was never big on Wolfram. u_U Never really understood all the hype.

10: No offense, but please don't. There's already so much shitty SasuNaru out there where the fics could be about anyone...maybe you're a decent writer in terms of structure or grammar, but the really good pairing stories -- in any fandom, IMHO -- are written by people who *get* the characters, who *believe* they'll wind up together and want to show us how.

Write your favorite pairings; hell, write gen! But please don't think you're doing the fandom any favors by writing more clichéd generic Popular Pairing Fic. It just makes it harder for the actual fans of the pairing to find the stories worth reading.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-14 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I /do/ write gen and my favorite pairings. Nobody reviews, which led me to try SasuNaru.

I /do/ feel guilty about it. I know theres so much shit for them and its not fair of me to write something I'm not big on. This isn't doing the fandom a favor, this is me being horribly selfish. I guess all I can say is I'm sorry. Maybe I'll be able to accept one day that nobody wants what I really enjoy writing and be happy with my 3 reviews.

I know exactly how you feel.

Going to an anime convention kind of sealed it for me. It's bad, but I felt a hundred times more confident in my appearance when I was surrounded by unhygienic chicks who dressed like sloppy guys. Like, since I bothered to brush my hair, style it, put on makeup, wear women's clothing; I was the best looking chick in the place.

Go ahead and tell me how much I suck, when and how I'll be going to hell, etc.

Re: 5

[identity profile] kimirike.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
NO you don't suck. LoL only in fandom is dressing up like a normail girl considered odd.
I've never been to a con but I know that if I did go I'd probably get dressed up in average girl clothing. Because well that's who I am!
I don't like playing dress up *shrugs* or being unhygienic.

5 - Uh, most anime/manga fans look like normal people. You're not special. Well, you are, but not in the way you think.

7 - Agreed on Wolfram, but I still love him. I don't know why. He's such a little bitch.

19. HAHAHA Me too, EXACTLY like that. I even wrote this long-ass, terrible fanon-based fic. Oh man, I still have a printout somewhere that reread from time to time and cringe and laugh over. But it was fun, which is why I can forgive some of the squee-tastic flailing that (mostly) younger and/or brand new fans have, since I was totally like that. I even fell into the trap of hating Relena just because some of the first fics I read mischaracterized her so badly as the Evil One out to separate Heero and Duo.

Then I watched the show and was like... wtf are all the people thinking? None of the fic made any sense at all based on the timelines. Haha... ah, the old days. It makes me nostalgic.

I prefer now that I actually know canon before I go read fics, but still there's a certain shininess in my mind to just going along with mass enthusiasm. I think I still hold more fanon over canon when I think of GW, but at least I'm aware of it, and it doesn't bother me too much that I enjoy it that way. Too bad most of the fics when I go back now to reread them are pretty crap :/

(Anonymous) 2007-07-14 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think the fandom is starting to mature now and the quality of fics coming out are much truer to the canon. especially now that the squealers have moved on to shinier fandoms.

5. Don't think that you're the only one.
15. Is that Indonesian text I see at the bottom of the secret? :D *dies*
25. YES. Why do all strong female ninjas have to be medical ninjas? >:(

1. ... ;_; I'm torn between crying over my childhood, or going OMFGAW that's so cute.

5. I dress in what's fashionable for me, and I'm not completley out of the loop, but yeah, assumptions kinda.. make you look like a pompous asshole. Not all anime fans have bad taste in clothes, or look really nerdy or dorky, that's a small precentage.

21. I... personally I think that mpreg is really really really creepy, but I... I don't know if I can call myself a yaoi fan anymore. I like my gay realistic and not so .. bishie. To me, my gay is supposed to make sense and have a purpose, otherwise the buttsex isn't... hot. Maybe I'm weird, I dunno. Uh. Enjoy your yaoi, and I'll enjoy mine. Thnx.

2- PYRAMID HEAD =D I love him and I haven't seen the movie OR played the games

15- I admit, my first thought was a vague curiousity of if you'd still feel that way in six months.

21- |D

23...I do GET this sentiment but at the same time I hate that liking something once it's already popular is supposed to be bad? You'd think people would be happy that a character is being liked as a good character, or a book as a good book or a group as a good group but there's always room for that little barb "But I liked them before they were popular" =\

I don't think it's so bad to be willing to enjoy the things other people enjoy.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-14 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's so bad to be willing to enjoy the things other people enjoy.

only if they say it because they enjoy it and not because it's KEWL to say they enjoy it. not the same thing.

It was a beautiful scene and it showed just how strong Martha really is. She will be missed but oh am I looking forward to seeing more of her though.

see how cool I am by being nonconformist in my conforming to society's expectations? I'm expressing my individuality by blending in with everyone else! admire me!

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
5: Honestly, judging people by their clothes is bad. Yes, I can see the point of going "wow, he hasn't washed his shirt in weeks, better stay away." But the "omg I dress like a pretty real woman?" is rather offensive. I wear shirts and jeans for the most part, not because I'm too sloppy or uncaring to put on the latest little black dress, but because I see myself as male.

I'm tired of seeing people conflate fashion and style with personal hygiene, because someone can be unstylish and/or individualistic and still be a cool person who's just fine with society aside from shallow people. Someone who has multiple, serious personal hygiene issues unexplained by health issues or a momentary lapse (e.g. the greasy-haired stinking person in unwashed clothes in everyday life, not the person with bad breath and slept-in clothes at a con, since there *are* some people who camp out or share with a lot of friends to save money) likely has some major mental health/adjusting to society issues.

[identity profile] stopping.livejournal.com - 2007-07-14 12:08 (UTC) - Expand

TL;DR most definitely. D:

[identity profile] stopping.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
2- I fully agree. I see no reason at all to like him. He has no face, kills people, and stalks around like he's got a massive stick up his ass. But I love him so bad.

Makes no sense? I agree~

5- Hm. So then, what does that make me? I'm female, and an anime/manga fan, but I dress like a man. Huge T-shirts, jeans, boots, whatever a guy wears, I'm on it. I've even been mistaken for a guy a couple times. Since when did anime and manga fans supposedly try to dress to match what they're fangirling? Blatant misconception, and actually kind of insulting. Sure, I realize that some people have the money to waste on clothes like that, and they're stupid for it, and I realize that others can't afford it, but what's so bad about it? They're doing the exact same thing you are: dressing the way they want to. And if people recognize them as being anime fans and scorn them for it? So what? Those people are close-minded and stupid. If people look down on fans for being anime/manga fans, and you dress to make it look like you're not, isn't it a little bit sad that you can't be proud of who you are?

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. They're just clothes. What's so bad about being the baa baa black sheep? D: Isn't it better to be exciting than plain? What would be the point to just blend in? You'd be just another Agent Smith. [And yes, I did just make a Matrix reference.] It's diversity and weird people that make life interesting, otherwise it wouldn't be worth living. D:

16- Me too. D: Especially since about half of the characters I currently play are underaged little boys.

18- Hell, I'd read it. In fact, I think I saw something like that a while ago. o__O Is there a link to it that I might kidnap? ;D

21- Random yaoi is fantastic sometimes. In fact, hell, I say bring it on! But I have to completely disagree with you. I've seen plenty of Gary-Stus and Mary-Sues [well, not in yaoi], and they just keep getting worse as they go. I don't quite see how hardcore smut and mpreg are the same, though. I love the harcore shit, but mpreg scares the hell out of me. Not because of the physiological problems, but because it would hurt so much for a man to carry and bear a child. I love other fangirls, because it gives me someone to talk to. What's your point?

23- I agree. D: Lexaeus is amazing, and it's really sad that people like him just because he's in OrgyXIII. I mean, come on, can't he be awesome just for being who he is? D: I also hate it when people like him only because he 'looks so good paired with so-and-so other Organization member' blah blah blah. I want to go to these people and say "Hello, this is Lexaeus. He's number five in the organization, wields a giant tomahawk, has a personality and [non?]life of his own, and is not some accessory to be pasted onto the nearest person's ass. Thank you, and good night."

24- That can mean one of two things: 1- that people are too immersed in their predefined definitions of art to see how hard people work on their stuff, or 2- that people are whores and consider some artists to be gods, therefore rendering everyone else's stuff worthless because it's not up to their standards. Personally, I think the second option runs true. Everyone's so caught up in what they think pictures should look like that they don't care about the time and effort that those 'not up to the standard' put into their work. It's aggravating, and stupid. [Can you tell I'm of the same breed as you? ;D] All I can say is that you just get over that feeling. So what if no one appreciates it? At least you liked it enough to have the balls to post it up for other people to see. That in itself should be enough, I'd think~ ^__^
