This is probably the most reasonable Loki secret we've had in...ever. So good job with that.

Though I honestly feel his fans far outweigh his haters. And some people who dislike him have their own (good) reasons. It's okay to not like a character.

The Avengers fandom, that shining star of promise, will be destroyed from the inside by the strife brought on by the God of Chaos, and mutate into a twisted, single-character fandom of Loki-ball-licking fans who type one-handed messages of love to their leader--TOM STONE OF HIDDLE!

I think people who think villains cannot ever have anything sympathetic about them operate on the same logic as woobifying fangirls: any hint of sympathetic motivations means he's OMG TOTES INNOCENT FOREVER. Except fangirls choose to cling to anything that can be interpreted as sympathetic to excuse all the evil he's done, whereas the bashers try to explain anything sympathetic away by saying that he wasn't really sympathetic -- he was just pretending, or something.

Newsflash: your genocidal world-conquering murderous villain will still be evil if he had a bad childhood or has regrets or still loves his brother or feels genuinely sad at times. He's not going to magically disappear into a puff of purity and innocence. You're still allowed to hate him, or love to hate him. Don't worry.

I like to think most Loki fans are like OP, especially since all the crazy Loki fans are people I hear others complain about, and not something I've encountered personally.

I mean, I know the extreme apologists exist but I doubt they make up the majority of Loki fans. And it's sad that they're loud and persistent enough within fandom to make more level-headed fans feel they have to explain themselves all the time.

Okay, just from a basic logical standpoint, how can people think his motivations are "LOL I'M EVIL ALL THE TIME"? Even if you didn't watch Thor, he makes his motives pretty clear in The Avengers. Yes he's a nasty bitter evil murderer, but he's not evil just for evil's sake. He has a whole backstory and set of motivations. He wants power. He wants validation. He wants to be better than Thor. He wants to stick it to Odin. He wants revenge. He thinks humans are bugs. He thinks it's his right to be king and he was wrongly deposed and if he can't rule Asgard, he'll rule this planet instead. How is that just "LOL EVIL"?

It really sucks when you feel like you have to justify liking a character, and I often wonder why some people can't fathom the idea of liking a character just the way they are. It's not like you want to run out and find your very own Loki to get married to, and there's no reason to assume so.

I also wonder how true the assumption is that most people like things for superficial reasons. Perhaps it was true once, before people got used to telling others off for being that way. But now, how much of it is just people ranting because of past experiences? How much of society is really that shallow?

But that's a bit off-topic, maybe? These are just things I think about in situations like this.

I really like Loki, but as he is - he's a villain, yes, but one with sympathetic motivations. But I feel like admitting you like him means people immediately judge you as a woobie!Loki loving apologist who has self-insert fantasies about dating Hiddles, WHICH IS NOT THE CASE. I've seen so much weird attitudes on either extreme - from the above, to the bitter, bitter people who hate this character and judge everyone who likes him. It's nice to know that there are people who fall into neutral territory. *clings*

THISTHISTHIS. One thing that annoys me about the haters is that they really don't understand that you don't have to approve of a character's actions in order to like them/find them interesting.

Also, to the haters: You know why supervillains have fans? Because even though they're evil, they're FUN with their hamminess and their speeches and their doomed-to-fail, larger-than-life machinations. We enjoy them because we know they can't win and because they aren't realistic. They're crazy and over-the-top, so people enjoy them. Get over it.
