But then we wouldn't have had the ending where Andy plays with them again, which was the best part of the movie as far as I'm concerned. So yeah, no. I'm all for tragedy, but no.

...fuck, now I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about it.

(Also, while again I'm all for tragedy, if it had simply been left at that scene, it would have been a narratively unsatisfying ending.)

I looked at the image, and, with the two girls in the corner, I thought it was Watanuki/Doumeki. And then I rapidly agreed with the secret. *facepalm*

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
haha, that's awesome! A similar thing happened to me, too. I knew this guy on a runescape forum who lived in the same country as me. Didn't really think much of it and then one day at school I was talking to my friend who had been to a quaker camp thing, and she was talking about this guy who had the same name. I mentioned it on the forum and he asked about my friend and what her name was, and yeah, he was the same guy my friend was talking about. That was like, 5 years ago but I still think it's pretty great. (Mind you, there's only about 2 degrees of separation here.)

Hindu culture, how does it work?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Um, no... I didn't respond back at all, actually.

You know, I can defend myself, certainly, and often have had to, but I don't want to come to fandom constantly ready for battle just because I'm always one of few black female people around and therefore an easy target, so having enraged white fans who enjoy a good fight against bigotry more than I do because it's a temporary novelty to many of them, and who vastly outnumber fans like me, trying to police each other instead, saves me a lot effort. That's even considering any time I might spend dealing with those of them who come at me thinking they know my internalized prejudices better than I do.

And while I won't deny that the prevalence of SJWs has reached a most annoying concentration level in fandom, I don't think they've made anything except having thoughtless fun harder, because A) at least some of the people who are now afraid to voice their opinions thanks to dogpiling had awful shit to say in the first place and I won't cry crystal tears for them learning to think before they type, and B) the troll tactic of using the most inflammatory behavior of the time just to start drama while hiding behind anonymity predates the internet and will probably outlast the heat death of the universe.

So yeah, my feelings.

Man I was so wrapped up in that moment I forgot it was a kids movie and wouldn't end that way. When Buzz and Woody are staring at each othrr and realiing it's over? I remember getting lightheaded and then this weird gleeful acceptance washed over me and I almost couldn't understand what was going on when they were saved.

I should clarify I was at a drive-in theatre that allowed BYOB and wasted by this scene so I was a little loopy. Fun though. I cried a lot. A lot. I was given a pillowcase to wipe my face.

Exactly this. I have zero tolerance for guys who complain about women only wanting douchebags but then it turns out these women are physically so far out of their reasonable range that they might as well be on another planet. I blame Hollywood and stupid people pretty equally for that.

I like both. I adored BBC Sherlock and I'm enjoying Elementary and they're completely different. I was a tad wary of Elementary but I gave it a go and I like it.

Wait, how did you get from SJWs to Hinduism?

I don't know what you mean. I love it when guys mansplain my goals and ambitions as a woman because they don't understand statistics/stereotypes/the words I'm fucking typing. It's the best.

/I hate this so much

I trolled once. It caused a pretty huge wank. Not even one commentator suspected troll. :D

Jonny Lee Miller's performance has actually grown on me, but Lucy Liu is flat as a board and they've really fucked up the character of Watson. Holmes and Watson are supposed to be friends and investigate cases together, but she's more like a nurse type who's off dealing with her own stuff or trying to get to the bottom of Holmes' personal life and it's boring. I'm liking Jon Michael Hill's character. If they got rid of Lucy Liu and just put him in the Watson role, and also worked more on making the mysteries not being totally obvious, I think the show would have a lot of potential. I'm afraid that they're going to go down the soap opera route and become all about Holmes's tragic past though.

As a computer science student, for me it's context-free grammars in Backus-Naur Form that I trip over. A BNF grammar always makes me think of some special set of elite grammatical quirks used exclusively by BNFs.

The Harry Potter ship names were epic. They were something else.

na

Wait, weren't the people who were up in arms actually in canon? I remember that Kurt gave Blaine some kind of anti-bisexual speech (because Kurt is Murphy's mouthpiece and Murphy is a dick) and Blaine realized that Kurt was right and he was silly for thinking he might have been bisexual

That show had a lot of problems with bisexuality. They went from having Santana confidently enjoying having sex with anything and anyone (and to my knowledge, they never even mentioned the word "bisexual") to having her decide that she was actually a lesbian who was insecure about her sexuality because...ratings I guess. And Brittany only ever got to be called "bicurious" (that could have changed, but I haven't seen the show in a while)

This thread leads me to conclude we are a community with a hollow, illusionary economy propped up on exchanging false secrets.

Oh and he was also one of those guys who like to hit on and form inappropriate "friend"ships with women in relationships because they like the validation they get when they convince someone to leave their boyfriend for them but use "almost all of my ex-girlfriends cheated on me" as proof women are lying manipulators by nature.
