3. Kairi just sucks in general. I hated her regardless of Riku or Sora or whoever. She's obnoxious, she's completely perfect, can't even cry---no what does she do? she giggles and smiles because she is just soooo warm and loving blah blah blah BARF and has no emotion except for the 'perfect ones' ala Gabriella in HSM2. No personality, just angelic all around and even when she's mad she makes the person she's yelling at look bad!

I want to punch her in the face, if Kairi hadn't of been nice to Riku, made him and Sora 'reunite', (and act like she was depressed...she barely talked and had no enthusiasm in kh2, I semi-liked her in KH1 when she had, you know, a personality) in the second one I bet half the fangirls that say they love her wouldn't.

Considering most of them are rabid Riku fans who try to seem all dignified when honestly most of them look down on anyone who even DARES suggest anything bad about they're precious Riku. I mean, have any of you SEEN how he's portrayed in fanfiction? He's good looking but he's no some sex god... *rolls eyes*

sorry for the rant

17. House/Wilson = not canon? BLASPHEMY!!

Okay, just kidding. I totally know where you're coming from. House/Wilson is fun to, well, poke fun of. I even kind of "ship it" sometimes. Not cool to SERIOUSLY consider that Wilson is gay and is in love with House and just doesn't realize the depths of his own gayness.

Come ON. It's kind of silly when you think about it. Or when I think about it. :S

5. Who? What?
6. Haha if anyone wanted to put my crappy fanart in their icons, thatd be -awesome-.
9. I was involved in a fandom sort of like that, were the creators/'inner circle' used to mingle with us. They probably thought our fanboy/girling was kind of weird but they played along with us for the most part and it was AWESOME <3 They used to throw things in the canon to indulge us fans. Good times.

1) John! I'm sad that this secret hasn't gotten more comments. But we you are lucky that he isn't real, seeing as what happens to his friends and lovers. ;(

(Anonymous) 2007-08-21 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Srsly, it's my first secret outside the cut, and because it's not a kawaii anime secret or a wank-generating comment about fanart in icons, nobody comments. :'(

But yeah, that's what I meant about being lucky that he isn't real. XD At least RPing him won't kill me. Unlike dating him.

PROBABLY.

3. And this is why I can't stand yaoi fangirls and most yaoi. Entire fandoms are made up of ONLY yaoi. I like yaoi just fine but when it's the only thing in a fandom I start to get sick of it and finally just stop looking at the fandom.Yes, I am mature and actually don't go around bitching about it I just stop looking at it.

10. uhhh when your a professional artist and you make money by selling prints, it's really hard to sell stuff of only the few fandoms you may be in or GASP your own characters because they aren't going to sell as well as something from a super popular show. If you were just using art as a way to feed yourself you'd be asking those same questions too. I could understand being upset if they drew them super out of character and didn't bother to even TRY to look up info on them or pictures but most artists do like to do a bit of research if their drawing it on their own to make a print. (at least the ones I know) And if it's a commission then they just do it the way the people tell them.

People who do that don't deserve friends anyway. WTF, why would you give up a friend over a television show?

Re: 7

not only just a tv show but a show that can contain subject matter that is uncomfortable for some people to address.

[identity profile] aviy.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
6. In the end I think it's just a mixture of things. I haven't personally seen anyone say they were offended by the idea of their art being resized to 100pixels, as far as I can tell it's usually a matter of control. Which, while I don't quite agree with, I can recognize. It's human nature to want to have power over something, specifically something that's yours and thus the whole 'ask first' sentimentality. There are LOTS OF WAYS ONE CAN JUSTIFY the desire to be in control of that! And I don't really care to hear them all listed at me in argument, but I do think at the heart of it people want to have power over something.

As far as the Japanese, I think they just have an entirely different sentiment over what is 'rude' and what is 'flattering'. It's my understanding that the japanese consider it rude to use official art at ALL, which is why you see japanese fanartists redrawing manga/anime scenes a lot! In my americanized opinion I think redrawing someone else's idea is way ruder than promoting the original art. Which! Isn't to say either one way is better, but I think it's why the japanese are so tetchy over their art being used AT ALL without their express permission: for the most part they really don't do this the way the english fandom so freely does.

Not! That I really care. Because in the end I steal music, download anime and manga, think authors who have issues with fandom are wanky, and don't see much difference between fanartists who have issues over icons. I'm genuinely glad you and other artists find it flattering, if I could draw worth shit I sure as hell would. It's my dream that one day my original stories will have a fandom, with good as well as bad stuff. I want AUs, I want horrible mary sues, I want people RPing them good and bad, I basically support all branches of fandom. But in the end fandom is still theft, still rude to MANY, and will still keep on trooping on it's way.

I barely use it, really... just 'cause some of my favorite artists have it as sketch blogs and I like looking at their art...

Ooh~! Fan-fictions! I'd love read that, sometime, if you'd let me! :>

17. This part of your rant really annoyed me: "my pairing is/will be canon" sounds a lot crazier coming from the slashers. Most het pairings at least have a theoretical chance of becoming canon. Not with slash

Umm... no. Just because one character has a pussy and one has a dick, doesn't mean they'd have a better chance at hooking up over two guys or two girls. Gender doesn't matter when it comes love, it's all about how the characters interact with each other.

A male and a female who barely speak to each other in canon have a lot less chance to hook up than two males with plenty of slashy subtext.

And believe it or not it is possible for males and females to be friends without falling in love or fucking each other. Shocking, I know.

Man, don't I wish. While that may be the case in real life, it's sadly not the case in most media. Or maybe I'm just not in the right fandoms. At least in my experience, it's a lot more likely for writers to hook up a random het couple than for the most subtexty same-sex pairing to actually be validated.

Sadly, I adore Xena/Gabrielle. Cute picture though.

(I also think that a daytime TV show went that way is far more stereotype breaking, as it were.)

Well, I don't know. I'm not the iconist. :0

Some of the art used in icons has been passed around for so long that nobody knows who the artist is anymore. Some, I guessing, are probably too timid or lazy to ask. A small percentage might have tried to PM or email about it and never got a response (maybe the letter didn't go through, the artist switched accounts, the artist left the internet, etc.) so they assumed no news was good news. And a lot assume that if the artist doesn't say, "hey, my art isn't for use on livejournal! Don't make icons from it!" then it means she's okay with it.

I don't have a problem with usage, and neither do my friends who draw fanart themselves. You would be surprised at the number of artists on Deviantart who don't mind iconing ("don't claim it as your own" =/= "don't use it for graphics"). Of course there are those out there who are dislike it too, but I don't think there are as many as some people think there is. If the artist herself tells you, on a journal entry or personally or whatever, then take it down. If not, it's free game until she makes an announcement. You're not breaking the law if there's no law to break, you see.

Fanon pairings aren't inferior in any way, but claiming they're canon when they're really not just makes you sound delusional.

It's interesting to me that you chose the word "delusional". I don't know if you knew what that word references for a large fandom or not when you did it, I just think it's funny. But, truthfully, I agree with what you're saying. :)

6) Someone used my fanart as an icon once, and my first reaction was "OH WOW AWESOME :D"

Second reaction was "...but she didn't even ask me. :|" I wasn't upset (if she asked, I would've said yes anyawys), but I was miffed when I saw that she put "don't steal" in the comments for it. I mean...wtf. It's kinda hypocritical, you know?

(Anonymous) 2007-08-21 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
did she credit you at all? I hate the people who use fanart and have the "steal this and die!" sort of thing in their comments but then fail to link back to the person/site they originally got it from. As if it was theirs to claim from the beginning...

#23: PLEASE WRITE THIS FIC.

Seriously, I thought I was the only one who wanted such a thing, but I AM NOT ALONE. I love Kyou too but I hated how Momiji just got shafted in every aspect of the series, so I want him to get some love too.

Good luck - you've definitely got one reader. Try writing it anyway - maybe Tohru's character will just emerge as you go along. ♥

8.
OH GOD.
Can I honestly say, I fucking love you for that secret. That RP was the first time I'd picked up RP in about 2-3 years after the last one I took part in crashed and burned. Sure, I sucked at first, as I'd never done LJ-based RP before, but eventually I got the hang of it. Anyway, off topic. That RP was the first (of many, really) after a few years, and I truly loved it. The mods were fantastic, everyone was nice and friendly ToA didn't exist, and the events were always so new and refreshing and kept the storyline moving.

And then.... Tales of the Abyss came. And the fangirls went rabid. Gasp, big surprise.

It was funny, at first, with the 'dreck' and 'bastard' flying around. But the funny stopped when there was 40 Luke's and 56 Asch's, where everyone was sleeping with everyone else while genderbending all over the place. Sure, genderbender = fun. After the first time. After that, it gets old.

Anyway. I totally agree on this, you're completely right. Back when that RP first started, it was fabulous and lovely and I could never see quitting. But now it's just like, I'm on hiatus over my computer being broken, but if I didn't have friends there, I'm not sure I would stay. It's just getting old with everything.

And the MPreg totally made me want to throw up. So you've got my vote for the SQUICK right there.

And does anyone else wonder why the baby was okay? I mean come on, Luke and Asch are like brothers/twins because of their genetic code, so shouldn't there be a deformity of mental problem? Maybe that's just me overthinking, BUTSTILL.

[identity profile] vespawoman.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
6. I agree with the majority of what you said. But, really gets me is when it's over fanart. It's not your original creation, therefore...what's the fuss about. Other than drawing it yourself, it's not your characters, nor your original idea. It really just doesn't make sense to me. You're drawing for the fandom, and yet you get mad when someone wants to use your "art" for an icon. You want people to like it, and want to get the attention from it (most of the time, this is true) what's the big deal? The only thing I'd get mad about is if they try to claim it as their own.
